Dreamworks TV and ABC Studios are teaming with the creators of Paranormal Activity on a spooky TV project.

Paranormal writer-director Oren Peli and Paranormal 2 screenwriter Michael R. Perry have co-created a new series idea that brings the horror hit's style to the small screen.

Titled "The River", the story involves a search for a person who went missing on the Amazon river and employs the found-video footage format popularized by Blair Witch Project, Cloverfield and, of course, Paranormal Activity.

Dreamworks is near a pilot deal at ABC, whereby the pilot must air otherwise a penalty is incurred.

Sources say the network aggressively pursued the project, edging out also-interested NBC.

Executive producers Steven Schneider and Jason Blum, both of whom worked on Paranormal, are also on board.

It sounds interesting and I think it could work as a series in a way.

I have a feeling this series isn't going to be long.

How much "real footage" can one film?

ABC has officially ordered a pilot for Paranormal Activity writer-director Oren Peli's "The River", which is about a search for a famous adventurer/TV personality who, with his crew, goes missing in the Amazon.

His loved ones search for the group, but each have their own motivation for being there. During the search, they encounter mysteries, abnormal occurrences and adventures.

Jason Blum and DreamWorks TV serve as executive producers.

If the pilot is a winner we'll soon be seeing a new series from the creator of Paranormal Activity.

This sounds interesting, but sadly networks don't seem to give new shows a fighting chance. :(

Paranormal Activity director Oren Peli heads to the small screen with "The River", a horror/action series that ABC picked up for midseason.

We've got a trailer, some photos, and a full synopsis of the story, which revolves around a famed explorer who goes missing in the jungle, and the deadly search to find him.

"The River" follows the story of wildlife expert and TV personality Emmet Cole. Emmet set course around the world with his wife, Tess, and son, Lincoln, while filming what would become one of the most popular shows in television.

After he goes missing deep in the Amazon, his family, friends and crew set out on a mysterious and deadly journey to find him.

Famed explorer Dr. Emmet Cole (Bruce Greenwood) went looking for magic deep in the uncharted Amazon and never returned. The shocking truth about his disappearance is out there, somewhere, just waiting to be discovered.

To the millions of kids who grew up watching his nature show, Dr. Cole was a hero. To his own son, Lincoln (Joe Anderson), he was more of an enigma.

Now, six months after he vanished, Lincoln is finally ready to bury the past when Dr. Cole's emergency beacon suddenly goes off. At the urging of his mother, Tess (Leslie Hope), Lincoln reluctantly joins her on a search for his father.

To fund the rescue, they agree to let Dr. Cole's cagey ex-producer, Clark (Paul Blackthorne), film the mission documentary-style. The mixed crew of old friends and new acquaintances includes the sexy and resourceful Lena (Eloise Mumford), loyal mechanic Emilio (Daniel Zacapa) and lethal bodyguard Captain Kurt Brynildson (Thomas Kretschmann).
