Hello all-

I've been a big Bewitched fan all my life, but never bought the DVDs. But I used to watch them like crazy when they used to be on Nick at Nite. But suddenly, I'm inspired to start buying the DVDs. But the price is what's stopping me. Seasons 1-6 are $30.99 each at Amazon and Seasons 7-8 are $24.99. I was wondering if these prices are good or should I wait for a sale? I was thinking of maybe buying Seasons 7-8 now since they're only $25 ($6 cheaper than the other seasons) and maybe buy the rest when there's a sale. I like the Dick Sargent episodes just as much as the York ones, so I don't mind buying the Sargent ones for now.

What do you guys think?

Too bad I didnt like Little House On The Prarie as they are only 17.00 for a 2 pack

I would wait for a sale. I've seen them a lot cheaper than that on Amazon. Another place to try is Costco. I got seasons 3 and 4 there for $12.99 each.

Or you may want to try BJ's Wholesale or Sam's Club. They usually sell DVD sets fairly cheap.

$12.99???!!!! Amazon sure overpriced these, didn't they? And I thought their prices were good too, but overcharging like this just proves me wrong. I'm very disappointed in Amazon now. I'll think twice before ordering from them again.

I’m sorry, but I went ahead and ordered Season 4 from Ebay (brand new) for $16. I chose Season 4 since it’s my favorite season. I really should have waited until I find a $12.99 deal, but my sudden inspiration to buy this show has made me impatient. I just have to buy one season. I’ll wait for the rest to go on sale before I buy them….that is, if I don’t get too addicted after watching Season 4. ;)

Dakert is right. At both Walmart and Target, they have two packs with seasons 1 and 2 for $19.99, a good buy!

My favorite seasons are 4, 3, 1, 2, 6, 5, and 7. I won't watch season 8 because I feel the quality of the show had really gone down by then.

Try to get seasons 3 and 1 soon as I'm sure you will love them. :D

I used to have Season 1 on DVD when it was first released, but I ended up buying the Color version since that's all the store was carrying. I couldn't stand the colorization. The pinkish faces looked terrible. So, I sold it on Ebay. For Seasons 1 & 2, it's either the B&W versions or nothing.

I had trouble finding season two in B&W. So I just waited. I refused to support the colorized versions.

I'm proud to have the B&W DVDs in my collection.

You should have just kept your colorized DVD's and turned the color off on your TV when watching your DVD's as they will look exactly the same as the B/W DVD's look, no difference as the B/W ones are just grey scaled versions of the color ones.

Too much trouble. Besides, you can ruin your TV by constantly turning the color on and off.

Not really, almost all are digital, just take note of the setting it is at where you like it re color, like 27 lets say, then go to menu & turn it to zero, it will not harm your TV in any way & like a twitch of a nose you have Magnificent, Glorious Black & White.

I bought the colorized ones too- mainly because I was worried that I wouldn't be getting the "true, original" black and white tones with the "black and white" DVDs- that they'd just be the greyscaled versions of the colorized episodes rather than the original tones. If it's just grayscale, I'd rather do it myself and watch the original black and white, pre-colorized episodes on tape.

Then Sony thinks you like the episodes colorized and who knows, maybe they would release only colorized versions of other black & white shows. I know that seems far fetched, but with my paranoid mind anything can happen. ;)

If you look at the 41 episodes on the Screen Gems & Columbia House VHS Factory tape releases you will see the original B/W true lighting, shades, tone etc. as they were although cleaned up some they were not remastered or restored.

The grey scale aspects of the B/W DVD releases for the first two seasons is confirmed by the way by Mark.

Of course same thing re the original studio 16 mm prints from the first two seasons of which i have 9, now that is truly seeing it as it was originally seen & made in all respects re openings, end credits etc as well as the B/W aspects.

Ah! That explains why the B&W opening credits is a little different on the DVDs when I rented it a while ago. On Nick at Nite, when the B&W episodes were shown, at the ending of the opening credits when the smoke rises from the pan and says “Agnes Moorehead as Endora,” you can see that the smoke is grey. But on the DVDs, the smoke is pitch black. I always wondered about that and now I know why. Why on earth didn’t Sony use the original B&W versions?

Because Sony is Cheap, Cheap, Cheap, Cheap.......aside from the fact that they just do not care about the fans or the show one way or another, it is just a product for them, why not do it the cheap way instead of the Right way when one can, that is their additude.

They did not want to restore a second B/W version to go along with the colorized restored remastered version.

This way they could do both at the price of one restoration for the episodes from the first two seasons.

The problem with places like BJs and Costco is that they always have different things there every time I go. So, if you saw the Bewitched DVDs there when you last went, the chance of me seeing them when I go next time is fairly slim.

I went ahead and bought Season 2 in color. I really would prefer the B&W version, but I always run into one of two problems: the store doesn’t carry it or it’s priced much higher than the color version. I think Sony does this on purpose to promote the color version and apparently, it’s working because the sales figures for the color version are much better.

I got rid of my Season 1 color DVD set for sole purpose of buying the B&W version someday, but after all this time, I could not find it for a good price. So, I’ll have to rebuy Season 1 color eventually. I’m stuck with the color now since my Season 2 set is in color. I would like my collection to consistent.

Now the reason why I bought season 2 in color is because I found a brand new copy for only $9 on Ebay. I had to grab it. I just received it in the mail yesterday. It was a great deal, especially since I never saw 90% of the episodes. By the time I started watching “Bewitched,” Nick at Nite was mostly airing the color episodes, so I didn’t get to watch many of the B&W ones. I still say the colorization is awful. The people have orange faces. But, at least, I get to see these episodes. I watched the first two episodes and was very impressed. So far, I like it better than Seasons 3 & 4. I never realized how good the earlier seasons are. You can really see how the show went downhill each season.

So far, I have two more York seasons to buy: 1 and 5. I wonder if I should buy the Sargent ones eventually. He was ok, but he definitely isn’t as good as York.

Argh! I just came back from Costco and they didn't carry any Bewitched DVDs. I'm dying to get the 5 remaining seasons on DVD. I finished watching my Season 2 DVD set last week and I enjoyed it immensly. Any chance Amazon will have these DVDs on sale on Black Friday??
