Mother Jefferson was sassy and was a great sparring partner with Louise. Something that Louise lacked in later seasons. Lionel was as boring as dish water on the show. He wasn't the same Lionel on All in the Family that was for sure.

I love the scene where Mother Jefferson smacks George's "friend" with an umbrella for repeatedly putting the moves on Weezy. Then George thinks that the guy is making a pass at his mama. :rofl: The audience just went crazy and so did I. CLASSIC!!! :lol: :lol: :lol:

After watching the early episodes on TVOne for the first time in years, I'm inclined to agree. Mother Jefferson was hilarious, and the show just wasn't the same without her...at least until they finally settled on a direction for Florence's character, and she and Sherman became the centerpiece of the series.

Now there's a topic for you: the evolution of Florence Johnston.

Yep Zara did a phenomenal job as Mother J. Poor Weezy - Mother J was such a witch to her. (Yes, that's an interesting idea - another sparring partner for Weezy- but who???). I liked Weezy any which way - with an antagonist taking jabs at her or not.

And yeah, I 101% agree w you about Lionel - he was booooooring (zzz) on the show - nothing like on AITF where he rocked.
