It wasn't unusual for young TV stars of that era to branch out into music. For example Shelley Fabares and Paul Peterson from the Donna Reed Show both had brief recording careers as well.

I do! I remember buying them and playing them on the hifi. I just loved/love Patty. Just bought S#2 (I've been slow I know as its been out for a while) and can hardly wait to see it. She's wonderful. A real all around talent.

I particularly liked Patty's "Funny Little Butterflies" performance from this 3rd-season. Great stuff, and a very pleasing episode. Of course, I've always enjoyed these musical interludes, and wish there had been more. But I'm of two minds on the subject. As much as I enjoy them, I would have also hated if the series became too overloaded with them and perhaps gone off-kilter and deviated from the whole winsome premise, with something like Patty Lane being portrayed as some kind of teen singing sensation or whatnot. That direction might have likely undercut the series unique charm. I am glad they avoided that, because I could imagine the producers being tempted to go there as Duke's singing started rising in the charts.

not young lol ;) - I was pre-teen when Patty Duke was on the air. A LONG LONG time before CDs - we played our fav songs, which were on 45 rpm singles, on the hifi or a record player

Sorry but most of us know this stuff already, in fact I too have the yellow background album, multiple copies of her first single and one even with a beautiful full color picture sleeve announcing it as her first record. She was on United Artists records.

BTW....she is appearing here in New Jersey this weekend (10/10) at the famous Chiller Theatre convention where I plan on having her sign my album and I have a DVD gift for her.....the original 1981 NBC Broadcast in perfect quality of her playing the character Patty Lane on an episode of Password Plus with the original commercials.

I use to LOVE that Nick at Nite commercial where they would show Patty singing "Tell Me Mama What To Do.." with clips of her with different guys on the show. At the end, the anouncer would say, "Patty Will Figure It Out." When I went to college, we had to dissect a commercial and I choose that one. I still had it on tape all those years later. :)

I would have loved to have made the long journey up to the "Chiller" convention last weekend to see Patty (not to mention Barbara Eden and all the others). One of these days I really need to get one of my still-photos autographed. Nah, I'm really not much of an autograph hound, but a personally signed picture of Miss Duke would indeed be something to treasure.

I loved "Just don't stand there". My dummy self would stand in front of the mirror holding a hairbrush and making believe I was the real singer. LOL...........

I heard another one on an oldie station a year or two ago. "When ever she holds you." It must have been fun to have a side career of singing in the 1960s.

Maybe I should re-phrase my statement. I think The Patty Duke Show is great, but to me the biggest highlight of the series is the scene where Patty sings the song Funny Little Butterflies.

But I'm also glad that the producers didn't go overboard with Patty's singing in the episodes. With Patty's recording career happening during that time, season 3 could have been a song fest and deviated from the premise of the show, but they limited the singing to that one episode.

I acutally have THAT one and many OTHER Patty Lane..I mean..heh heh Patty Duke songs on my mp3..that was a Lesley Gore-You Don't Own mesounding ballad..

I have a CD "Just Patty", a compilation of her several record albums she did for United Artists. It contains "Don't Just Stand There" and "Say Something Funny" along with several tracks from the Billie Motion Picture Soundtrack, and both versions of The Patty Duke Show theme, including a karaoke track of the second version so you can sing along! I bought this around 1996 or 7 and I don't know if it is in print anymore.
