CLERMONT, FL. --
Imagine not being able to eat food, not a single bite.
That's reality for a 4-year-old boy in Lake County who has been diagnosed with a rare disease that makes him essentially allergic to all food.
Instead, Silas Harger drinks a special formula.
Since being diagnosed with Eosinophilic Esophagitis or EE, Sy has handled giving up food well, his family said.
After bouncing around from doctor to doctor, they finally got a diagnosis in the last 6 months after visiting to Cincinnati Children's Hospital for treatment.
"And that's when they told us that he is obviously allergic to any type of food," said Heather Harger, Sy's mom. "And it causes swelling in his esophagus. Therefore, he needs to be off of all food."
Sy's family has started blogging about his story in hopes of helping other families facing E-E.
They're also planning fundraisers to help cover Sy's medical costs.
