Apparently, I never heard of this before. The article says it had everybody back with the exception of Grandma Addams who I guess passed away by then. Anybody know of this?

Blossom Rock (Grandmama) had since died, so the role was recast with actress Jane Rose.

Speaking of Grandmama - interesting bit of trivia. Alice Pearce (Gladys Kravitz #1 on Bewitched) had originally auditioned for the role but was turned down because she was too young. Their loss, of course, was Bewitched's gain!! :D

I saw it, but can't remember much about it. I used to have it on tape, but lost the tape years ago.

According to IMDB.com this movie was a pilot for a potential revival series of the Addams Family. The network declined to order the new series.

Halloween with the New Addams Family
A TV reunion movie, Halloween with the New Addams Family, aired on NBC Sunday, October 30, 1977. It featured most of the original cast, except Blossom Rock, who had played Grandmama but was very ill at the time; she was replaced by Jane Rose. Gomez's brother, Pancho, is staying with the Family while Gomez goes to a lodge meeting in Tombstone, Arizona. Gomez is jealous of his brother, who once courted Morticia. Halloween is nigh, and Pancho tells the legend of Cousin Shy, who distributes gifts and carves pumpkins (similar to the Great Pumpkin). Actually, Gomez has been lured off by crooks, who've bugged the house in order to steal the Family fortune. Lafferty, the boss, sends Mikey to investigate. Wednesday (now called "Wednesday Senior") is home from music academy, where she studied the piccolo (she breaks glass with it). Pugsley ("Pugsley Senior" now) is home from Nairobi medical school, where he's training to be a witch doctor. Gomez and Morticia meanwhile have had a new set of kids, Wednesday Jr. and Pugsley Jr., who closely resemble the original kids. Mikey panics and flees after treading on Kitty Cat's tail. The crooks have a fake Gomez and Morticia to help in their plans, along with two strong-arm goons, Hercules and Atlas. Gomez returns home for the Halloween party and trimming of the scarecrow. The movie had a slightly different version of the theme song. The finger snaps were used, but not the lyrics.

Lafferty poses as Quincy Addams (from Boston) to get in. He has his men tie up Gomez and Morticia and his doubles take their places, confusing Pancho, who's still got the hots for Morticia. Lurch scares off the thugs and terrifies the assistant crook. Fester, trying to be nice, puts Lafferty on the rack. Lafferty tries to escape through the secret passage and steps on Kitty Cat's tail. When the police arrive, they surrender. The Addamses are then free to celebrate Halloween happily.

I have "Halloween with the Addams Family" on VHS and watch it every Halloween. Great supporting cast, including Henry Darrow (High Chaparral) as Pancho, Gomez's brother; Parley Baer; and Vito Scotti. Fun movie!

I remember watching that show. It was the first year I didn't go out for trick or treating so I was glad there was something good on the tube to watch. :)

It's a good thing they made the special when they did because we lost Ted Cassidy in 1979, Carolyn Jones in 1983 and Jackie Coogan in 1984. :(

Also Elvia Allmann played Grandma Frump, orginally played by Margaret Hamilton. Ophilia, Morticia's sister and Cousin Itt were also back. Too bad this isn't included on The Addams Family dvd sets, but it must be under different ownership.

I believe at one of the recent Monster-Manias that John Astin and Felix (Cousin It) were talking about it; the clip is here around the Addams Family board somewhere.

Felix said "it wasn't that great."

I have it and it's pretty good, the house looks totally different though. It was also their first and only appearance in color.

Here is an even more unusual one from the 70's of The Addams Family. Had never even heard of this one before:

ADDAMS FAMILY FUNHOUSE
Jack Riley as Gomez, Liz Torres as Morticia, Stubby Kaye as Uncle Fester, Pat McCormick as Lurch and Butch Patrick as Pugsley (1978 CBS Special)

In late 1972, ABC produced a pilot for a musical variety show titled The Addams Family Fun-House. The pilot aired in 1973, but was not picked up for a series.

Not sure of the exact air date as different sources lists different dates.

Has anyone heard of this one or even remember it for that matter? The cast is entirely different, and interestingly has cast Butch Patrick (original "Eddie" on The Munsters) as Pugsley. Would love to see it.

If it is the one I am thinking of, didn't they go to the attic and decorate a scarecrow which is what they do every year on Halloween ???

I actually have this, it's pretty good, it had all the charm of the old show, the house looked pretty different though. The house actually looked kinda cheerful and elegant, not like dark and macabre.

Halloween With the Addams Family was released on VHS by Goodtimes Video in 1991. It pops up on Ebay, sometimes, that's where I got it from. Also can be found on I-offer transferred to DVD-r.

Its too bad it wasn't included on The Addams Family DVD sets, but I don't think FOX, which released the series, owns the rights to HWTAF. Who knows if the made any attempt to get it, though.

It's funny how the continuity gets messed up, they did that on NEITHER of the 2 Halloween episodes of the original series lol

 I hate lack of continuity, also. Maybe we can assume they started the tradition on Halloween, 1966.

In October 1977, before the castaways were even rescued from Gilligan’s Island, NBC dipped its toe into the nostalgia pool with another feature-length revival of a 1960s television favorite: Halloween With The New Addams Family, an obscure special that has been dutifully uploaded to YouTube by Lee Pete, whose stash of pop culture treasures also includes the Wayne’s World VCR game and some vintage Cartoon Network bumpers. The 1977 Addams Family movie, despite that troubling word “new” in the title, has nothing to do with the late ’90s revival series. Instead, miraculously, it reunites virtually the entire cast of the original 1964-66 TV show: John Astin, Carolyn Jones, Jackie Coogan, Ted Cassidy, Lisa Loring, Ken Weatherwax, and even Felix Silla, who played Cousin Itt. Vic Mizzy, who memorably scored the ’60s show with harpsichords and finger snaps, has also returned. The only major person missing is Blossom Rock, a.k.a Grandmama. The actress died at the age of 82 just a few months after the special aired; her role is played instead by Jane Rose. The director, David Steinmetz, is a one-film wonder, but the script was written by sitcom veteran George Tibbles, who wrote a few episodes for The Addams Family’s longtime rival, The Munsters.

At first, it is disconcerting to see the ghoulishly genteel Addams clan subjected to the indignities of the Jimmy Carter era, including grainy videotape (thanks, Norman Lear!), chroma-keyed credits, and topical references to Star Wars. But, blessedly, Steinmetz and Tibbles have not tampered with the Addams Family formula too much. The plot largely revolves around the failed efforts of a gang of inept crooks (led by Parley Baer) to rob the still-impressive Addams homestead. Meanwhile, Gomez worries that his hot-blooded brother Pancho (Henry Darrow) might be putting the moves on Morticia. Also, Gomez and Morticia have two new kids, Pugsley, Jr. and Wednesday, Jr., even though the original Pugsley and Wednesday are still around. That’s a little weird. And all of this is an excuse for the cheerfully morbid humor and Popsicle-stick wordplay for which The Addams Family is justly beloved.

I remember watching that show when it aired. I was 13 years old and it was the first time since I was five years old that I didn't go out trick or treating. I was too old; just stayed home and helped hand out candy.
