Could a Family-type show be done on broadcast TV today? "In this time of political correctness, no," Sally Struthers says. "It hasn't been done since. I think we've politically corrected ourselves into the turlet."

Political Correctness is the biggest reason it wouldn't work today. Obama wouldn't "allow" it. Besides, who would play such roles? I couldn't think of one decent actor.

I don't think Obama would have anything to do about it. Political Correctness has been around before Obama's term in office.

But seeing as the show was already made in the 70s, we don't need it today. By that I mean, it broke most of the barriers back then, making shows that came after it what they are. We need All in the Family as a classic television show. We don't need a show like it today. We just need quality shows and I think sitcoms are good right now. There's a lot of new ones I really like. At the beginning and middle of this decade is a whole different thing. But now, they're back. The ratings aren't as high for sitcoms as they used to be, but the quality is still there.

No it could never be made today, unfortunately.

And I respectfully disagree, Adam. I understand what you are saying but I think many of the same issues from that era are still with us, and new ones have presented themselves, and there are currently NO shows addressing any of them in the frank, comedic and sympathetic way that AITF did. And because everyone is so sensitive, they more than likely never will.

I know that political correctness has been around before Obama, but what I meant was that anything he deems as wrong or offensive to him personally, he's all up in it!

Okay, yeah, I get what you're saying. I guess I was going for more the impact that "All in the Family" made on television. Because it made SUCH an impact, even a show exactly like it in theme, wouldn't mean as much to TV today as it meant to TV in the 70s. Back then, they came off of shows being about a talking horse, a sexy genie, a beautiful witch married to a mortal, etc. The shows today have more sex and violence, and cussing, and some even have nudity.

I guess in the end I'm saying a show like it could be made. I just don't think it would have the same impact as AITF did.
