The reason I ask is a read the article below from July of 1982. In it, Ted said he had no sympathy for Ed's spinoff series Lou Grant getting canceled and he stated in the article he found "LOu Grant" the series to be boring.

He really let him have it. :lol: I heard stories that they didn't get along. I read somewhere that Ted was a Republican so that could have had something to do with it. I agree with everything he said though. I watch tv to be entertained and not to be preached too. I enjoyed Lou Grant when I watched it in reruns although I didn't at the time. I don't think it was dropped because of politics. If ratings were good the show would have been renewed.

I saw an interview with Gavin MacLeod (Murray) once where he said all the guys on TMTMS got along like brothers, but that Ted and Ed did sometimes get into some pretty heated political debates.

Interesting info guys, thanks for the responses. I know Ted seemed like a perfectionist and Ed seemed very opinionated, so I guess they were bound to butt heads once & a while. lol

it sounds like ted and ed were at different ends of the political spectrum, and when that dovetailed with this screen actors guild situation, they may have been in a minor spat

i enjoyed the first couple of seasons of lou grant, but one can't deny it had a bit of a political slant to it

but in the extras of the mary tyler moore dvds, i recall ed talking quite glowingly of ted...so i'm sure that years later they would have made up and had a beer together

Well, to add my two cents' worth, I heard Valerie Harper could be difficult, too and that Cloris Leachman didn't have the best opinion of Mary Tyler Moore, but you didn't hear that from me.....:)
