View Full Version : 'Taxi's' Elaine Nardo Was Scheduled to Get Pregnant...But Who Was Going to Be the Dad
Brian Damage 08-25-2010, 07:29 PM In an interview back in 1981, Marlilu Henner revealed that she was written on the show to get pregnant. It was her idea and was going to be a part of a season long storyline....but a writers strike took place and all material was scrapped!
Adamantium 08-25-2010, 07:57 PM Well we know that the season premiere of the '81-'82 season, Alex and Elaine had sex at the end of the "Vienna Waits" episode, or at least it's hinted that they do. It would have been cool for them to have a baby together. For pure comedy sake, it would have been funny if Louie was the father, but that may have been too bizzare, even for "Taxi." lol
catlover79 08-25-2010, 08:12 PM Alex and Elaine really were the star-crossed soulmates of the show (sorry, Latka & Simka). According to her autobiography, Marilu Henner and Judd Hirsch dated for awhile in real life, so the sparks weren't all fictional.
Retro4Life 08-25-2010, 08:33 PM ^ Yep, to me they were kind of the "Mary and Lou" of "Taxi". :) Always loved their chemistry.
Marvo301 08-25-2010, 10:26 PM The way I see it Bobby Wheeler would be the father of the baby. And shortly after the baby is born he would get an acting gig that would force him to move away and Alex would step in and volunteer to be a father figure to the child in Bobby's absence.
Brian Damage 08-25-2010, 11:07 PM Wait a minute.... Elaine & Alex slept together?!? I never knew that!
Retro4Life 08-25-2010, 11:13 PM ^ Yes, it was strongly implied at the end of the episode Monika mentioned.

Wow ok, that is an episode to look out for...Thanks guys!
I guess perhaps Elaine and Alex were to get pregnant together. lol

Actually, Adam mentioned it, not me.
Retro4Life 08-26-2010, 12:56 AM ^ Op, sorry. It's late and my eyes are tired. :)

It was bound to happen...they did share that hot kiss in the S2 ep "Nardo Loses Her Marbles"!

They were the two most normal and level headed people in the garage. They were bound to be drawn to each other.

They're the only two drivers at the Sunshine Cab Co. that I'd feel safe taking me someplace!!

For sure! As much as I love Tony, Bobby, and Jim and I don't think I'd feel safe in their cabs!
Skywalker 08-26-2010, 12:18 PM Wow, I never knew that! I'm glad it didn't happen. The writers probably would have introduced a new character and had him be the father.
catlover79 05-19-2011, 09:30 PM Maybe it would've been John Burns on a return visit - or Jeff Bennett, the assistant dispatcher!!

Monika, Monika, Monika. NO! They were both married (not to each other). ;)
In seriousness, it probably would have been a new character, introduced for the sole purpose of knocking up Elaine - a job that I would surely apply for. If I was the age I am now back then, that is.
catlover79 05-19-2011, 11:28 PM I was just kidding - you know what they say about the least likely people to get together. I never knew Jeff was married, mainly because he hardly ever said anything!! I know John was married, but maybe in this scenario he could have returned as a guest star, his marriage having failed. He and Elaine could've talked, opened a bottle of wine, and had a one-night stand. You never know.
Still, I would've liked to see the series end with Alex and Elaine riding off into the sunset together. They were made for each other, and I think he would've been a great stepfather to her kids.
Adamantium 05-20-2011, 12:26 AM I never knew Jeff was married
Jeff made a couple references to having a wife. One of them is when Louie is telling him that he should settle down and get married. Jeff looked insulted that Louie didn't know this about him and said "I AM married, Louie!"

After which Louie congratulated him and asked when did this happen? Jeff replied 11 years ago! So we know that Jeff had been married for 11 years. As for the father of Elaine's baby I think that being a very independent lady Elaine probably visited a sperm bank.

Which episode was that? I must have missed it. :o
