Barbara Walters Plans All-Male "View"

CBS might be planning a new mom-centric talk show designed to compete with "The View", but ABC is developing its own panel show spin-off for the daytime market -- this time, it's an all-male version.

The New York Daily News reports that "View" creators Barbara Walters and Bill Geddie have decided to recreate the format of their successful show, which has been on the air since 1997, using a new set of celebrity panelists.

Fancast.com names former "Today" host Bryant Gumbel, comedian Alec Mapa, former BET news anchor Jacque Reid and former FOX News personality E.D. Hill as the potential co-hosts.

According to the NYDN's source, the new series, which is still in the development stage, wouldn't necessarily be advertised as "male" but rather "unisex."

It would air in the soon-to-be Oprah-less afternoons and be shot in L.A. rather than New York.

The "Male View" concept has been done before: Dick Clark's "The Other Half" ran for two years with Mario Lopez, Danny Bonaduce, Dr. Jan Adams and Dorian Gregory joining Clark on the all-male panel.

Bryant Gumbel ...I can't stand him. He's also one of the worst football announcers I ever heard. I was so glad when The NFL Network got rid of him.

I agree with you about Bryant Gumbel. I just find him annoying. I do however like his brother Greg Gumbel. Amazing that two brothers could be so different.

You may not remember this, but when "The View"became a huge success, they came up with a male-version of "The View",called "The Other Side".Needless to say,it didn't go over too well and was not a hit.So the idea is not new and has been done before.Anyone remember "The Other Side"?

I do remember that show. Dick Clark, Danny Bonaduce, and Mario Lopez were among the hosts.

They wont do this because its a good idea, but for a male show get Dick Clark along with Don Corneilious, Jimmy O'Neil, Don Webster, Casey Kasem, Sam Riddle and Gene Weed together, and have all their guest be singer, musicians, actors and other pop culture faves from the 50's and 60's as their guest (no politics would be allowd of course). I would get cable just to watch this.
