No offense to the late actor Mel Stewart who portrayed Henry, I just didn't "get" his character. I was never a big fan of his confrontations with Archie. He always seemed to be a ripoff of the George Jefferson character, even though technically, he appeared BEFORE George did. Why even bother having Henry around? I mean the character didn't even appear on the spin-off, so why even bother creating the character?

I know, why have the brother seen for so long when it could have just been Louise or Lione

I think Norman Lear wanted Sherman Hemsley on AITF as George right from the beginning but he had other commitments at the time so he cast Mel Stewart as his brother. I liked him well enough but I liked George better. I always thought it was strange that Henry never appeared on The Jeffersons. The only mention that I remember was when Gary Coleman appeared as his son.

I actually enjoyed the Henry character, but not as much as George. I thought the arguments he and Archie had were hilarious.

Yes, I also thought it was odd that Henry never guested on The Jeffersons. Does anyone know why?

We never saw Henry on the Jeffersons because the actor ended the character

^What does that mean? That Mel announced that he would never play Henry Jefferson again?

It meant that he had no more interest in playing Henry Jefferson after he left All in the Family.
