Yes very sad, I recorded the special that night and recently transferred it to DVD, I also let the tape continue to run after the special ended that night as WCBS/NY opened their 11PM newscast with at least 5 minutes of Lucy coverage.

Yeah, I recorded that special that night, too. I also recorded Entertainment Tonight, which devoted its entire broadcast that night to covering Lucy's death, as did Nightline a few hours later. And Pat Sajak opened his late night show talking about Lucy. And Charlie Rose's late, late-night show was also devoted to Lucy. Then the next morning, The Today Show and Good Morning America were talking about Lucy throughout their entire 2-hour broadcasts. I kept switching back and forth between those two shows recording what I could, then I had to settle on one and leave the recorder running because I had to go to class. It seemed like 24 hours of non-stop Lucy in the news.

Regarding the part at 10:37, where Lucy is crying, who do you think she's talking about other than Vivian and perhaps her mother? I think that interview was done around 1983 before Life with Lucy and while Desi was still alive. I assume she's referring to some behind-the-scenes folks, but I'm not sure whom.

By the way, Gary pretty much forced her into doing Life with Lucy; she didn't want to do it, and it's VERY clear in that interview (and others from around that time) that she had no intention of doing another series. The story I've heard is Gary, behind her back, worked up this deal where they'd make a bundle of money even if the show got canceled. She resisted the idea but I guess felt cornered.

It would be nice if this were officially offered on DVD!
