There's a running joke in my house about whether or not Maryann was out of line when she asked Gilligan for the sand. To quote my husband, "Gilligan should've dumped the sand on Maryann's head." In fact, my son even drew that scenario in one of his cards that he gave me! I always say that if Gilligan was going to get the sand anyway, he at least didn't have to add in a snide remark upon doing so. My husband answers that she deserved it. What do you think?

What I always wondered about regarding that scene is why the Professor is having a good time laughing while both Gilligan and Maryann are upset at the end of the scene.

Do you think there's any reason that Gilligan, Lovey and Maryann are the ones with the superpowers? Is it because they are normally the least powerful in the sense of being the least listened to, perhaps? Or is it just a sharing the focus thing for the actors?

It's a little amateurish how we can detect the castaways slipping down off their seats as they get ready for the fainting scene.

How did Gilligan go from detesting the soap to loving the taste?

I was surprised that Ginger, being the talented actress that she supposedly is, would consider a career as a "bubble dancer."----Unless that was her joking around. Again, it brings up a question I raised in another post--just how famous, accomplished IS Ginger?

It does seem as though Gilligan is the workhorse here: literally, in one of the scenes! (And I wonder what large animal donated the bone Gilligan's using as a bit? Did they dig that out of one of the cannibals' barbecue pits? Yech!) I sometimes wonder how Gilligan gets labelled as a 'slacker' when he so obviously does quite a bit of the physical work on the island. But you can certainly tell he's getting mad when he makes a snide remark to Mary Ann. That's pretty rare.

Ginger only appears in two scenes in this entire episode: the two eating scenes. Similar to Mr. Howell only appearing in two scenes in "Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow."

On the ff.net Gilligan's Island forums, we've discussed that Ginger was probably a struggling starlet as opposed to a movie star. She'd appeared in a number of silly "B" movies with ludicrous titles, but had never really gotten a serious role in a major film or play. That was why she was so devastated about missing the chance to star on Broadway in "A Pyramid for Two".

I think you're right about why Gilligan, Mary Ann and Mrs. Howell were shown as the characters who got super powers. The Skipper is already exceptionally strong, the Professor is amazingly smart, Ginger is extraordinarily beautiful and Mr. Howell is...well, he's really rich. The other three aren't known for being "super" at anything, so it was fun to suddenly see them take the limelight.

The food scene is great. I love any of the scenes in the series when we see the castaways enjoying a meal and ad-libbing conversation. It's fun to listen in to hear what they're saying, and makes them seem like a genuine family.

About this episode..: I always wonder where got that Hawaiian music blaring outta the radio when the shocking discovery about the vegetables is announced ("..and now some more cheery dance musi.>"). It alsp appeared on "All About Eva"..and I'm asking because it's clearly NOT an original composition, having been on RADIO several times...

Also when Dawn yells to the ship (that only she can see) it does sound like Janet Waldo aka Judy Jetson dubbing that part (we all know how how perky her voice could be).."Over here"..
