I was wondering if anyone had any information about why Janice and Alyssa were murdered. I tried to search for more information about the people convicted of their murders (Eric D. Mize and Angela M. Mize), but did not find much info. Does anyone know why they were murdered? Or how the Owens were involved with the Mizes? Was it a random act of violence? Was Janice a witness or participant of some illegal activity with these people? One search that came up was from the Division of Drug Control, so I am wondering if their murders were related to the illegal drug trade? Thanks, any info would be appreciated.

Sadly I remember reading somewhere they believe their abduction and murder were for sexual reasons. :( Such a sickening case!

I had always wondered about this case as well; I figured that it was a robbery gone wrong. How horrible. :(

This segment was really twisted. They said they sexually assaulted the child and afterwords killed the mother because "she was in the way". Well that's two people that deserve to rot in prison for the rest of their waking life.

That case always creeps me out, I have a hard time watching the segment because it's so disturbing. Thankfully there were several eyewitnesses for this case.

Its curious that no one has written a book about this couple and why they are so seriously depraved. Angela definitley acts demon possessed with her smirky weirdness. Eric is just damaged period.

Thanks for the additional information. UM really never went into motive so its nice to get some more background on this deranged couple. In my opinion one of the most sickening cases ever profiled on UM. :mad:

Just read about the case... How horrible! Not that it excuses the crimes but it wouldn't surprise me if Janice's co-worker and her Scummy husband were on drugs at the time. (I read she lost kids to Soc. Servs. and wanted one. While her Douchbag husband wanted to molest kids WTF?) It just makes you wonder what makes people snap and do aweful things to others. This crime seems so senseless to me. Why would anyone want to hurt a single Mom and her little girl? :/

I haven't seen this case in years and have been unable to find it. Very sad one, but I'm glad the killers were caught.

I am setting everything straight with why and what happen. Angie was a very sick and demented women always has been even when she was lil. She did not have any of her kids taken away she gave them all up. She had 4 boys and 1 girl . She admitted in court that she had always had thoughts and impulses to do sexual stuff to a lil girl. I know more than all of you on this sick twisted story. She had always been disturbed and prison is the best thing for her on this earth and he'll to follow. We all think she should have got killed for what she did to that lil angle and her mom.

The only motive behind this murder was Angie wanted sexual stuff with the lil girl and the mom witnessed it.

Yes he was her accomplice. I have not been able to see this episode been trying to find it tho. But the only reason she did not get the death sentence is the grandma didn't want to have to go though it. And I no it has not been said on here but other places I've heard ppl make assumptions on how she was raised. To clear it up yes her parents were divorced but both her parents were in her life and loved her. Everyone knew she was sick just not this sick. She had 5 of the most wonderful kids. She never had them long enough for state to take them. And by the time she was with her husband she had none of them.

Sickest case I've seen in awhile. Nightmare Next Door on ID profiled this as well.

One of the many reasons I cannot become a Cop. In cases like these. My report would always end like "And that's how and why I shot them!" I hate these SOBs can plead guilty to avoid the Death Penalty as these scum bags did. That poor little girl and her mom.

Just watched this one, it's probably one of the most disturbing and heartbreaking UM cases. It was tragic enough that Janice had lost her husband a few years earlier, but then she and her daughter are both brutally killed. :(

I also watched the "Nightmare Next Door" episode about the case, and it mentioned some interesting details and false leads:
- Janice was actually engaged to be married, and her fiancee (a truck driver) was considered a suspect. He didn't seem upset when he learned that Alyssa was dead and Janice was missing. He also lied to his employer about visiting Janice shortly before the murder. However, further investigation proved that he was nowhere near Bonnville at the time.
- Janice had talked to other people online and had met a few guys in person. Investigators tracked down all of the people she talked to, but they were ruled out.
- Alyssa had apparently been transported to the scene in a trash bag (which was found with her body). A hair was found in the bag and another was found on her body.
- A couple came forward as a result of media attention, claiming that Angela Mize knew who killed the Owens. When Angela was questioned, she claimed that she had witnessed her husband Eric killing the Owens. She stated that Eric had taken a button off of Alyssa's dress; the detail hadn't been released to the public at the time.
- When police pulled Eric over to question him, he drove off and was involved in a 4 mile chase. He barricaded himself into his uncle's home until he surrendered. He confessed to his involvement but claimed that Angela was the "ringleader".
- The Mizes both apparently agreed that they wanted a child of their own "for their perversions". So they decided to take Alyssa and killed her and Janice.
