View Full Version : I'm Really Sick....Worried....
Family Ties Forever! 08-08-2010, 09:36 AM I have been really sick. While in Florida I got sick and I haven't gotten better. I went to the doctor Friday. I had blood work done. I have to have an ultrasound done Monday morning. It might be my gal bladder. I'm scared. I can't eat and can only seem to keep down very little liquid. I'm suffering from stomach pain and nausea. I also have and had chest and back pain. I have had some unpleasant symptoms. I don't understand what is going on and fear that if I can't get better soon I'll be in the hospital. :( I have tried to eat and when I do the pain is worse....
Mr. Television 08-08-2010, 10:20 AM Wow Jenny, I'm so sorry. I'll keep you in my prayers and keep good thoughts for you. Keep us posted. I sure hope everything is alright. :(
Brian Damage 08-08-2010, 11:50 AM Oh MY! Jenny I will keep you in my prayers. I know this might sound silly, but were you bitten by any mosquitoes down in Florida? The reason I ask, there has been a small outbreak of Dengue fever from mosquitoe bites down there.

I think I was bit by a mosquito while in Florida, however, the symptoms described in that article don't sound like what I'm suffering from.

Maybe it's Lyme Disease?
Cursiorandcursior 08-08-2010, 11:44 PM Sorry to hear of this. Sounds like it could be the gall bladder. I think back pain and stomach problems are associated with it. Very much like what my wife experienced years ago before the new surgery they use now. If it is not diagnosed you still need to get it taken care of. Seek out a second or third opinion if necessary. As I recall she experienced jaundice which is a yellowing of the eyes. That all cleared up when her gall bladder came out back in the late 1970s. Still going strong.
I had some kind of stomach virus back in March and wound up going to the hospital when I got dehydrated. Just sick as a dog. Pumped me full of fluids and I was home and back in business in two hours. Don't hesitate to use the emergency room if necessary.

I will pray for you, Jennifer.
Janice 08-09-2010, 03:09 AM Jenny, you know you've been on my mind a lot. You've helped me as a friend when I've been sick so many times, and now it's my time to be there for you. I'll be anxious until I hear the GOOD NEWS tomorrow after your ultrasound. It was nice chatting with you earlier. I understand that you were sick and couldn't talk much.

Janice 08-09-2010, 06:20 PM Jenny called me today from the hospital. They've admitted her for possible surgery. She has large gall stones. If they can't get rid of them non-surgically, she'll have surgery to remove her gallbladder. If it comes to that, she may be a candidate for laparoscopic surgery. She's undergoing more tests to determine the best route to go. She was in bad pain, and knew something was wrong. I'll be talking to her more, and I'll keep everyone updated.

Yes, it is a very serious condition. But Gallbladder surgery has fortunately
become very routine and quite safe.
Gallbladder Inflammation is usually caused by a stone obstructing the common
Bile duct leading from the Gallbladder to the Liver. Symptoms typically include:
Moderate to severe pain in the upper right quadrant of the Abdomen that
typically radiates to the Chest and or Back
Nausea
Vomiting
Possible Fever
Jaundice(Yellowing of the Skin and Eyes)
Janice 08-10-2010, 09:52 PM I spoke with Jenny earlier. She had a procedure done called ERCP which stands for endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. She sounded tired and nervous because she was having her gallbladder removed in a few hours, at 5pm. I told Jenny that everyone here had her in their thoughts and prayers. That made her feel good. :)
Here's a link to the procedure ERCP, that Jenny had done.

MrCleveland 08-11-2010, 07:21 AM Jenny...
we still think about you and we hope for a full recovery very soon.
Janice 08-11-2010, 12:46 PM Jenny called me last night, a few hours after her surgery. She was out of sorts, as the anesthesia hadn't worn off yet. She was also in pain, and the nurse brought her pain medication while we were talking. I'm going to call her in a while, let her get some restful sleep. The worst is hopefully behind her. She told me to thank everyone for their kind words. It means a lot to her.
Chelsea 08-11-2010, 02:53 PM Just now caught this thread:

Janice 08-12-2010, 07:45 PM I spoke to Jenny today. She's still in the hospital. She's hoping to go home tomorrow, but more realistically, she's looking at Saturday. She needs to be able to walk on her own before they'll release her. She's very weak. She had guests today, so I'm going to call her in a little while, when she's alone.
Dr. John Becker 08-12-2010, 08:02 PM I just read this thread. Gall stones are a very painful thing, and I'm glad Jenny is doing better. Sounds like the worst is behind her.

Marvo301 08-16-2010, 06:06 PM Jenny I just got home from holidays and found this thread. You've been through quite an ordeal. I'm glad the doctors were able to diagnose your condition and able to give you the proper treatment. I will keep you in my prayers as you recover.
Family Ties Forever! 08-17-2010, 10:06 PM Thanks.
I have a sore throat. I'm going to mention that to my doctor (the surgeon) tomorrow during my check up appointment.
Family Ties Forever! 08-19-2010, 05:54 PM I went to the doctor yesterday. He told me that it will take two months for the scar tissue caused by the surgeries to heal. The incisions and such will be sore and sensitive.
I asked about my sore throat. The doctor said it's most likely due to the trauma I suffered from having a tube put down my throat twice.
I will have a call-in doctor appointment in two weeks. If there's any problems I'll go in for a doctor appointment.
I still have to have the large stint removed. That will require another stay at the hospital, but thankfully that will be an outpatient procedure where I will go home the same day. I assume the procedure will take place around the beginning of Sept.
Marvo301 08-19-2010, 09:35 PM Thanks for the update Jenny. I will continue to pray for you as you go through your recovery.
Retro4Life 08-19-2010, 09:53 PM I'm very glad you're on the mend and that so far all seems to be going well, Jenny. I hope your life gets back to normal as soon as possible.

I had the ERCP this morning. I had blood drawn and an iv put in first. I was pretty nervous. It went ok. I got home just a little bit ago. They told me to take it easy today and that tomorrow I should be better again.
I have to schedule a follow up appointment for one to two weeks from now.

Family Ties Forever! 06-21-2011, 11:29 PM This might sound unusual or unlkely, but I wonder if it's a possible side effect. I don't want anyone to think I'm crazy by wondering about it.
I am having abdominal pain. It started Sunday. Last Thursday I was put on new eye drops called Azopt for my Glacaucoma pressure. I started having continous abdominal pain Sunday afternoon/evening. I didn't say anything about it to anyone as I was hoping the pain would just go away on it's own.
The pain continued so Monday I decided not to use the eye drops. The pain was finally better and somehwat gone by mid day today (Tuesday). However, I decided that I needed to go ahead and use the eye drops so I did. The pain came back this afternoon. Is it possible that the eye drops could be causing the pain? I tried to look up the information online. The paper that came with the medicine doesn't list abdominal pain as a side effect of Azopt medicine.
I'm, of course, concerned since last year I ended up in the hospital for five days because of abdominal pain.
Marvo301 06-21-2011, 11:49 PM It seems like the pain started when you started taking the drops and stopped when you stopped taking the drops. And when you started taking the drops again the pain came back. So it seems at least possible that there is a connection. You should probably discuss this with your doctor.
Retro4Life 06-22-2011, 12:03 AM Yeah I'd make a quick call to your doctor to find out if the eyedrops are related to the pain. You need the drops to help with the glaucoma, so I'd be wary of stopping them. However, if they are causing you pain, there's a good chance another medicine can be substituted.
Either way, good luck, Jenny, and please keep us posted.
qwerty 06-22-2011, 12:18 AM It's probably best to call your doctor. WebMD lists the following as possible side effects. side effects: eye or eyelid swelling/pain, stomach/side/back pain, persistent nausea or vomiting, yellowing eyes/skin, dark urine, easy bruising or bleeding, unusual tiredness, signs of infection (e.g., fever, chills, persistent sore throat), chest pain. Good luck.
