View Full Version : New Van Halen Album And Tour Due In 2011 Featuring Wolfgang Van Halen!
Brian Damage 08-07-2010, 07:58 PM Rockers VAN HALEN are back in the studio with original frontman DAVID LEE ROTH and will release their first studio album in more than two decades next year (11).
The group completed its reunion tour with Roth in 2008 and many fans expected them to follow up the road success with a new record, but there was no word on any upcoming projects.
However, the band recently renewed its deal with publishers Warner/Chappell and guitarist Eddie Van Halen and his drummer brother Alex have revealed they are working on new material.
They stated, "(Van Halen) is currently in the studio recording an album with Roth that is due for release in 2011."
And the band will promote the forthcoming disc by hitting the road once again, reports Billboard.com.
The website claims the rockers' manager and Live Nation promotions executive Irving Azoff mentioned a Van Halen 2011 tour during a discussion about concert earnings on Thursday (05Aug10).
The group's previous studio album, Van Halen III, was released in 1998 and featured Gary Cherone on vocals.
Roth last appeared with his Van Halen pals on their best-selling 1983 release, titled 1984.

catlover79 08-07-2010, 09:18 PM They've been saying that ever since Wolfie joined the band 2-3 years ago. I'll believe it when I see it!! (The album, not the tour, since Wolfie HAS toured with VH.)
-STEFFY- 08-12-2010, 01:04 AM It won't be the same without Michael Anthony or Sammy Hagar.

I have to agree. Dumping Michael Anthony = the dumbest move the band has ever made. I slightly prefer the Roth era of VH because I like more of the songs that the band made at that time, but no one but Sammy can belt out "Dreams" or "Right Now". He was the best possible replacement they could have found back in the mid-80s.
-STEFFY- 08-12-2010, 01:39 AM ^^^ Yes, dumping Michael Anthony was a really stupid move. He's great. And I absolutely love Sammy Hagar's singing. He's also awesome on 5150. He plays acustic guitar really great, too. I like a lot of DLR songs, but I do prefer Hagar's singing, musical ability and overall personality.
catlover79 08-12-2010, 02:05 AM Yes, Sammy seems like a totally fun, down-to-earth guy. So does Michael Anthony. Diamond Dave still has that huge ego thing going on. At least Sammy and Michael are making music and having fun in their new band (the band name escapes me at the moment).
-STEFFY- 08-12-2010, 02:38 AM Sammy Hagar always had a successful solo career before and after Van Halen, so he will be just fine. You're right that Roth has a tremendous ego.
I saw Sammy Hagar on one of those cooking shows last year. It was Emeril Laggasse's show, and Sammy was really nice and lots of fun on the show.
catlover79 08-12-2010, 02:56 AM Remember Dave's disasterous stint on talk radio a few years back??
-STEFFY- 08-12-2010, 03:00 AM ^ YES, and remember how he got busted in Central Park, NY for buying weed? LOL! That was a really dumbass move on his part!
catlover79 08-12-2010, 04:08 AM I don't remember that, but that was an extremely stupid move on his part. Dave is also one of the very few frontmen in music who have never been married. He has to be in at least his mid-50s by now.
-STEFFY- 08-12-2010, 04:14 AM Dave is also one of the very few frontmen in music who have never been married. He has to be in at least his mid-50s by now.
^ Dave sure was some womanizer in his younger days though. Yeah, he's probably in his mid fifties by now. Wolfgang is only 19, so I wonder why would some teenage kid would want to go on tour with a bunch of old men?
catlover79 08-12-2010, 04:28 AM He probably wants some groupies of his own!! Seriously, wasn't Dave training to be a paramedic a few years ago? Whatever happened to that?
-STEFFY- 08-12-2010, 04:36 AM He probably wants some groupies of his own!! Seriously, wasn't Dave training to be a paramedic a few years ago? Whatever happened to that?
Wolfgang's Van Halen groupies would probably be about 35 and older. But who knows...maybe some younger people listen to them.
Maybe Mick Jagger will take one of his sons on tour, too!
I didn't know Dave was training to be a paramedic.
catlover79 08-12-2010, 04:37 AM Yup, here's a link to the story:

-STEFFY- 08-12-2010, 04:47 AM ^^^ That was an interesting story. It was six years ago, so I wonder when he quit being a paramedic. I guess once Eddie and Alex told him that they wanted him back, he quit his job. Who knows.
Oh, and I heard Dave was on an episode of The Sopranos. I didn't see it since I don't watch the show, but I wonder if he was any good.
catlover79 08-12-2010, 04:50 AM I don't watch the show either, so I couldn't tell you. I looked it up and he appeared as himself in a 2004 episode.
-STEFFY- 08-12-2010, 04:54 AM ^^^ I saw just one episode of that Sopranos show back in season one and I thought it was pretty dumb.
Anyway, I'm guessing Diamond Dave likes touring better than acting or being a paramedic. I wonder if it will work out this time. I thought VH really stunk when they made the big mistake of having Gary Cherone be the singer. LOL!
catlover79 08-12-2010, 11:26 AM Yup, Dave loves the limelight!!!
Nighthawk76 08-14-2010, 12:38 PM The band has stated countless times that they were putting out a new album and then one never appeared. However, this time I think there probably is a new CD in the works since the 2011 tour has been confirmed by Live Nation. I really wish Mike was still part of the band, but Wolfie is good.
ABlairican Pie 08-15-2010, 03:28 PM Yes, Sammy seems like a totally fun, down-to-earth guy. So does Michael Anthony. Diamond Dave still has that huge ego thing going on. At least Sammy and Michael are making music and having fun in their new band (the band name escapes me at the moment).
That would be Chickenfoot, with Joe Satriani on guitar.
catlover79 08-16-2010, 01:16 AM That would be Chickenfoot, with Joe Satriani on guitar.
Thanks, Greg!!!
Nighthawk76 08-16-2010, 01:31 PM That would be Chickenfoot, with Joe Satriani on guitar.
That's a good album! :)
-STEFFY- 08-18-2010, 07:37 AM That would be Chickenfoot, with Joe Satriani on guitar.
Joe Satriani is pretty great!
catlover79 08-18-2010, 11:38 AM I'll have to check out Chickenfoot one of these days.
dlemond 08-18-2010, 12:07 PM It says they are in the studio - I just want someone to actually verify that they have been in a studio recording.
Usually you would head to a studio with the songs already written for the most part. If this is all true, then we should get an album eventually.
If they plan a tour then the album should come sooner than later.
Should be interesting to hear what they come up with.
catlover79 08-18-2010, 12:14 PM I agree - can anyone verify this?

I hope that when they tour the band plays Hagar-era songs as well. When they toured in 2008 they only played Roth-era songs and when Sammy was lead singer thay focused on only Hagar-era songs with the exception of "Jump", "Panama", "You Really Got Me" and "Aint Talkin' "bout Love". I know that there are cerain Sammy songs that they should not play (Roth doesn't have the vocal range to sing "Dreams") but there are others like "Poundcake", "Black & Blue" and "Summer Nights" that Roth could sing.
catlover79 08-19-2010, 12:07 AM I can't even imagine DLR trying to sing "Dreams" - so they would definitely be wise to keep it off the set list. I don't think he could pull off "Right Now" either. Maybe something like "Up For Breakfast", I don't know.
catlover79 08-25-2010, 01:24 AM I think with a name like Wolfgang Van Halen - you just HAVE to be a musician. I just can't see anyone named Wolfgang Van Halen being a lawyer or a CPA or insurance salesman, wearing a suit and tie all day. More seriously, I wish Wolfie all the best. He seems like a fine, level-headed kid and I hope he doesn't change!!
-STEFFY- 08-25-2010, 01:46 AM Wolfgang Van Halen
I think he looks more like Valerie than Eddie.
Nighthawk76 08-25-2010, 02:58 PM I think he looks more like Valerie than Eddie.
I think he does too. There was actually a jerk at the Chicago Van Halen concert two years ago who kept screaming insults about Wolfie's weight. Not cool! I know that this guy was probably simply upset over Michael Anthony being kicked out of the band but this was not the way to handle it. Besides, Eddie and Alex are responsible for what happend with Mike, not Wolfie.
catlover79 08-25-2010, 04:49 PM Or maybe the scariest of all: Wolfgang Van Halen, D.D.S.
-STEFFY- 08-26-2010, 11:42 PM There was actually a jerk at the Chicago Van Halen concert two years ago who kept screaming insults about Wolfie's weight. Not cool!
It's so cruel to torment a kid about his weight.
catlover79 08-27-2010, 02:28 AM It's so cruel to torment a kid about his weight.
It is. Totally unacceptable. People can be so mean.
