Another name has emerged in the murky, burbling cauldron of potential "American Idol" judges: Victor Willis, the Bay Area-raised lead singer from the Village People.
TMZ reports Willis, aka the cop, told the website that he met with "Idol" honchos and "reminded (them) that I was a judge for the selection of talent for the most iconic group of characters of all time."
According to Willis' representative, quoted by WENN-AM in Birmingham, Ala., Willis helped pick moustached, dancing singers in 1977 when it was decided to make the Village People a real group as opposed to a "concept" studio one. (Think the Archies and "Sugar, Sugar.")
(Well, which song would you rather have stuck in your head, "Sugar, Sugar" or "Macho Man"?)
"I'm considered a serious dark horse candidate," if alleged contracts with Steven Tyler and/or Jennifer Lopez fall through, TMZ quotes Willis as saying.
After leaving, rejoining and releaving the disco group, Willis was arrested several times for substance abuse and ordered into the Betty Ford Clinic in 2007. He was married to "Cosby Show" matriarch Phylicia Rashad back when she was known as Phylicia Ayers-Allen.
