BOSTON (AP) -- Cleveland Indians catcher Carlos Santana was carted off the field with his left leg in an air cast after blocking home plate for an out in the seventh inning of Monday night's game with the Boston Red Sox.

Pinch-hitter Daniel Nava singled to right and Shin-Soo Choo fired a strike to the plate. Santana made the catch, blocked the plate with his leg as Ryan Kalish came sliding in hard.

Santana remained on his stomach in obvious pain as most of the Indians players on the field huddled around him. Television replays showed his left leg buckled.

He was seated before being helped onto a stretcher and off the field. The crowd gave him a nice ovation as he was taken off.

The game was delayed for 12 minutes.

Carlos - as I am suffering the effects of a left leg injury myself - I feel your pain. Really!!! Hoping and praying for a full, fast recovery.

And we lost the game anyhow!

I hope The Indians love the cellar because they'll be in it forever.

BTW-I hope Santana recovers.

I know - I felt sick just watching it. The way his leg went right out from under him...   I'm surprised that there aren't way more collisions at home plate like that. Of all the position players in baseball, the catcher has by far the hardest and least glamourous job. They really do put themselves in harm's way.

That's what I heard...

I think it's time the Indians remove Chief Wahoo for something more like this....

That's why I would like to see the Cleveland Indians be called The Cleveland Steamers. (I caused controversy on a local site because someone said I hate Cleveland...I just can't respect Cleveland right now)!

I can't respect TIIC in Cleveland sports myself. If things get any worse for our catchers, we may have to have Sandy Alomar (current 1B coach) strap on the shin pads again!!!

That would be cool! I always liked Sandy! (and his brother Roberto who used to play 2nd base for the BlueJays!)

Getting back to Carlos Santana, here's the latest:

http://content.usatoday.com/communities/dailypitch/post/2010/08/indians-catcher-carlos-santana-out-for-season-with-knee-injury/1

Carlos Santana, the Indians' top prospect, will have surgery on his left knee Friday at the Cleveland Clinic and is out for the season, the Indians said.

Recovery time is four to six months and the team expects him to be ready for the start of spring training in 2011.

Santana was injured Monday night in a collision at home plate with the Red Sox's Ryan Kalish. Santana left the field on a cart.

The Indians said that Santana didn't need reconstructive surgery, but instead the strained collateral ligament repaired.

In 46 games, Santana hit .260 with six home runs and 22 RBI. He had a .401 on-base percentage.
