Going back to the mid '80's, can you imagine any other actresses in the roles of Dorothy, Rose, Blanche or Sophia? I know they struck gold with Bea, Betty, Rue & Estelle, and whoever had the intuition to switch Betty and Rue's characters was a genius, but what if...... it was different people in the cast?
Can you imagine anyone else playing these roles, and would it have been as much of a success?

I think I could see Audrey Meadows in the role of Dorothy.
We got an idea of what it would be like if Nancy Walker was Sophia (when she played sister Angela)
Debbie Reynolds as Blanche??
Mary Jane Croft as Rose??

Actually, I would have loved to see actress Diahann Carroll in the role of Blanche Devereaux. It was the mid-80s after all, and it's too bad that they didn't have an African-American actress fill one of the roles. Playing the beautiful, wealthy woman would have been a good role for Carroll (who, incidentally, was playing the beautiful wealthy woman 'Dominque Deveraux' on DYNASTY at the same time!

I wonder of Blanche and Dominique were related?

Does anyone know if any other actresses actually were considered for the roles?
