Was the last episode of season 4 the actual last episode of did they just end that season because Dolph Sweet died? That question bugged me because I always wanted to know what happend after the chief walked into the kitchen and found out Julie and Jonathan got married. If season 4 continued after that episode would they have talked about the chief being sick so we did not have to just find out in season 5. I knew he was sick in real life but I did not know Carl was sick because they never talked about his cancer.

according to lauri hendler from when she was on 25000 dollar pyramid the season was supposed to end with that cliffhanger and be resolverd in season 5 but when dolph died the ep had to be rewritten

It ended with To Be Continued, on re-runs, it doesn't.
This episode was finished a few days to a week before it aired, and the season finale's were all airing in May as usual, so there was no Pt I/Pt II. That's what was weird about this To Be Continued. It felt like there was one more episode to air the week later. But remember, Below Sea Level, Joey Meets Matthew and Nell Goes Back to NY were part of a 3 part story, the first 2 parts ending with "To Be Continued" and were NOT all titled the same title, or else they would have all been titled "Below Sea Level Pt I, Pt II, Pt III".
I made a fanfic episode on how I thought they would have told the Chief, the way it was explained in the season 5 premiere, but knowing the family, Nell and Julie would have tried hard until the Chief was in a good mood or sick or something affecting him to go crazy once they told him.
