Looks pretty good. I'm glad they straightened the late night schedule out, it was always a mess. Good to see Chapelle, Bob & Tom, Reno 911, etc gone. Didn't even know JSM! aired on WGN! It's not a surprise to see Retro Night gone. I don't get WGN, but if I did, I probably wouldn't watch much.

Two interesting things, they will not air The Cosby Show anymore, meaning it is on no national outlet, and 7th Heaven will not be nationally aired. Becker, another WGN longtime staple, is gone as well.

Just Shoot Me! is new and they are getting rights in fall from Program Exchange. TBS has the series through Sony. TV Land/Comedy Central lost rights, but they had it through PE. Coach is the same way...USA has it through Universal, and WGN has it through PE. I think Bewitched is the same way, too (TV Land through PE/WGN through Sony).

Addams Family filler airing is interesting.

WGN showed so much promise two years ago and now this. :( Sucks to see Newhart and Barney Miller and the whole retro night gone. At least the Jeannie/Bewitched/Cheers block stays in tact weekdays. Moving Star Trek: TNG to 4AM kills any chance I have of seeing it on this network, they could have aired it at noon instead of one of the Heat of the Night episodes. 7th Heaven leaving is sad but I didn't see it much at 9AM anyway. I am looking forward to the Coach marathon at least.

So, let's see, of the shows I watch with any remote degree of regularity: Matlock, In the Heat of the Night, Cosby Show, Boston Legal, Cheers, Barney Miller, Newhart, and Star Trek: TNG:

Four are gone (Cosby Show, Newhart, Barney Miller, Boston Legal, one is downgraded SEVERELY (Trek), two are left alone (Matlock, Heat), and one is upgraded. (Cheers).

Meanwhile, what stuff of interest is being added is either almost assuredly going to be edited to the point of being worthless (Entourage, Curb Your Enthusiasm), can usually be watched elsewhere (How I Met Your Mother, Monk) or I outright don't care about (the rest).

WONDERFUL changes there, WGN. That's really going to keep ME watching.

It's a pretty good, halfway decent schedule. It's a shame they are going to jettison(get rid of)Outta Site Retro Night, but I'm not WGN's programmer.Remember last year on Halloween weekend,WGN aired "The Munsters" and "The Addams Family"?Maybe they'll do it again this year, since they are going to air one episode of "The Addams Family",as filler,(and,as I've said before)but it would be nice if they could air both because there are plenty of both shows that are non-Halloweeen based. As for "Newhart"and "Barney Miller",it's a shame they won't be around in the fall.As for "The Beverly Hillbillies",(thank heavens they air the Very good Black and White episodes)"I Dream of Jeannie"(they air the black and white episodes),and "Bewitched"(I wish WGN would get the rights to the excellent black and white episodes, maybe they will-only time will tell)it's good to see them back.

The shows on WGN that I like are The Beverly Hillbillies, Matlock, In the Heat of the Night, Walker Texas Ranger, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie , Cheers, Bones and Monk. They should have more retro shows though.

I think they've done a good job with their schedule. Sad to see Outta Sights Retro Night be taken away and Newhart and Barney Miller go but at least they still air Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, and Cheers in very solid timeslots, so no complaints there. Also, Beverly Hillbillies is airing as are some of the older dramas.

Like many have mentioned, crazy how Cosby Show went from overkill to having no national cable airings come fall after it has expired from N@N, TV Land, and WGN America. Unbelievable!

But, overall, their schedule is very good. Goes from classic sitcoms and dramas to new programming in the primetime hours. Glad we won't have to see any 3 hour AFV megathons anymore!

Does anyone know if the local stations will also have double-runs daily of the Christine, Entourage and Curb reruns?

I like what WGN is doing - they have a little bit of everything. I don't think there is much to figure out. They are an all-around network. The channel has some much needed variety in today's cable world.

I am not too happy. First of all, I am very disappointed to see that the Cosby Show is leaving all cable and will not be airing anywhere. Second of all, I was lied to by various people on different websites that claimed the Brady Bunch was coming WGN after it left TV Land, and that Happy Days was returning this fall along with Laverne and Shirley. No where on here do I see anything about those shows, so I probably won't be watching WGN.

OK I give up...why does WGN still show LOCAL CHICAGO NEWS on their nationwide WGN America network? A way for WGN to "show off Chicago"?

I just don't think that there is much of an auidence for local Chicago news to be seen nationwide. How many people in Phoenix really care about local Chicago weather or traffic on I-90? Now before one says "..why there are people who have ties to the area who no longer live in Chicago..". Fine but these people can check out Chicago happenings such as news and weather online now. Why waste time on WGN America for this?

Besides WGN already offers a local channel in Chicago for their audience..that is where ALL of WGN Newscasts should be located at.

It'll stink not seeing Cosby Show or Newhart or Becker on cable, I'll have to either watch Cosby Show on my local channels or get it on dvd. I'll probably do the latter. Newhart, I've already got all they've released on that. I don't like Becker enough to get it on dvd though. Walker's ok, although boring. Never saw Curb, although I'm willing to give it a try. It'll be cool to see Just Shoot Me.

I completely agree. I never really thought about this because it has been such a staple of theirs to air the Chicago newscast. But yeah, you don't see TBS wasting good tv hours on an Atlanta-area newscast.

I'm amazed that even with all of the modern show additions WGN managed to keep so many classics on during the week! (Beverly Hillbillies, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, and Cheers). I think it's a great schedule overall! Just a thought, but I wonder if TV Land's decision to remove Bewitched had anything to do with the fact that WGN moved it to the 5 PM timeslot?

The closest thing I can remember TBS doing an Atlanta newscast was the early AM one done way back in the 70's with Bill Tush.

Interesting if WGN would do their news more like their sister station in Denver ( KWGN )..that may be more interesting.

KWGN's "News On The Denver Deuce", their newscast though mostly Denver related stuff does sport their own "internet cafe", a reporter who only does stories on marijuana ( pot for the most part is now legal in Denver ), live rock bands on the set such as the well known band The Fray who has been known to perform during the news , a weatherman who does a bit comedy ( Example "..man the weather today sucks like a Hoover" ), a reporter who does extreme sports well that may work nationwide even if one has no interest in Colorado but hey its different.

However WGN's news that IS nationwide is really not that much different than what one finds on their local channels, in other words a waste of time...

but KWGN on the other hand.....

I agree that it's stupid for them to still carry the news. Maybe re-air it late in the night or something? I bet that 10pm newscast hurts their primetime numbers. I've always thought it was a way to "show off" Chicago. I mean...why does somebody 1000 miles away care what WGN 9's newscast is? They would really benefit by pulling them or at least the 10pm one, IMO.

Yeah, on the local WTBS there were always newscasts. That, however, is okay - it was a LOCAL channel. It's a good thing the national version of TBS never did what WGN is doing today.

I'm sorry to see Outta Sight Retro Night go. If Newhart and Barney Miller were not pulling in ratings, perhaps they could have kept the concept but tried other shows. It seems a shame that the same off-network series air on multiple channels to the point of nausea, but there is no room for the older series...all at a time when we have more channel choices than ever.

I don't mind the acquistion of Dharma & Greg whatsoever but what I don't like about their schedule now is having to replace an episode each of I Dream of Jeannie and Bewitched. I'm not even blaming that on Dharma & Greg. I think WGN should have just not aired AFV during their daily lineup anymore. Who needs it? It's still on local broadcast syndication and a million other channels. Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie are much more vital lol

Yeah, I realize and understand that AFV gets good ratings. It's just annoying though when it comes at the expense of more classic sitcoms that don't get much air on other channels.

I like what WGN is doing - they have a little bit of everything. I don't think there is much to figure out. They are an all-around network. The channel has some much needed variety in today's cable world.

I don't think dropping shows like Newhart and Barney Miller that don't air anywhere else nationally, and airing a bunch of shows that already have plenty of national outlets offers some much-needed variety in today's cable world...it is just adding "more of same"--shows that can be seen on other cable networks or network affiliates.

New Adventures of Old Christine -- airs on Lifetime and CW affiliates
Scrubs -- airs on Comedy Central as well as CW or Fox affiliates all around the country
Walker, Texas Ranger -- airs on USA and Spike TV
How I Met Your Mother -- airs on Lifetime and network affiliates
Entourage -- airs on Spike TV and on CW affiliates all around the country
Curb Your Enthusiasm -- airs on CW affiliates all around the country
Bones -- airs a LOT on TNT
Law & Order: Criminal Intent -- airs on Oxygen, Bravo, and USA
The Unit -- airs on My Network TV affiliates
Monk -- airs on USA and My Network TV affiliates

At least they are still airing The Beverly Hillbillies, Matlock, In the Heat of the Night, Bewitched, and Jeannie, since we know we cannot count on the fickle TV Land to keep Bewitched and Jeannie on the air for any length of time.

I will miss Newhart and Barney Miller--the airing of which was like a breath of fresh air as these shows had not aired in a long time. And while I was never a fan of ALF, I admired WGN taking the risk of airing shows like ALF that do not seem to have any other television outlet.

WGN seems to be reducing its classic TV content, just as TV Land and Hallmark Channel also seem to be doing. The channels are turning into a mish-mash of content, just like so many other cable channels. Much-needed variety in a cable world? No, these channels are morphing into generic variety channels just like TBS, TNT, Spike, etc. And with the addition of reality shows, they are also morphing into network affiliates which are already flooded with reality shows in the daytime and nighttime...

And I do realize that these channels are airing shows already airing on other networks because they do well in the ratings, and that they are dropping classic TV because it's not doing well for them in the ratings. It's just a shame that there's becoming less and less of a place for classic TV anywhere amongst all the cable and satellite channels available.

It's just a shame that there's becoming less and less of a place for classic TV anywhere amongst all the cable and satellite channels available.I couldn't agree with you more,RobbieG.WGN last year was a breath of REALLY fresh air.Remember the sadly-departed "Outta Site Retro Night"Sundays? And last years'Halloween Weekend they aired "The Munsters"AND (my favorite of the two)-"The Addams Family"?They're doing it again this year ,however, with just "The Munsters".And how about when they aired "The Bullwinkle Show"-But,except for "Matlock","The Beverly Hillbillies","I Dream of Jeannie",(both Black and white and color),"Bewitched"(just color,I wish they'd get the black and white ones),and "In the Heat of the Night",WGN is becoming just like(I hate to say it),TVLand,The Hallmark Channel and all of the other cable outlets.
