Wow, The Jeffersons and Good Times only get a half hour a day? Lame. But then, maybe they did that because they're already anticipating where Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie (assumption) will fit in in October.

It could change in October (hence why the title of the story is TV Land Fall Part 1). I only have the schedule up to Sept. 26.

What a disappointment. Why did they even acquire The Jeffersons and Good Times instead of just renewing them? They apparently didn't do well enough when they left...

I still felt The Cosby Show would be gone. Kind of interesting seeing Roseanne on at 7pm. I guess it leads in to The Nanny well. All of that Andy Griffith is not needed. They just repeat episodes like crazy.

Looks like they have high expectations for The Nanny.

I'm guessing Roseanne at 7pm is just for a week or two. I expect more changes in October with the addition of the other sitcom and perhaps Bewitched returning.

Well that's a letdown. :( And Roseanne airing at 7PM is disgusting, they could have brought Home Improvement there with Roseanne already getting good slots from 11-1. The Program Exchange bit makes me think the October show is The Munsters, I don't think Jeannie is syndicated by them.

I'm glad The Jeffersons and Good Times are coming back. But it seems like a strange move. What will they really offer (in terms of ratings) that an hour of AITF and S&S between 9a - 11a would not? Good to see some representation of the 70s on the line-up.

The Cosby Show is a real surprise. I was kind of thinking it was maybe doing a little better (been at 8pm for a while).

I wonder if The Beverly Hillbillies will return before its expiration in December?

clj2
07-26-2010, 12:21 PM
Jeannie will not be the October show. It will most likely be The Munsters since the Oct. show is by TPE.

http://www.programexchange.com/programs.asp?category=2

The Munsters is the only show on that list I could see coming back and it did the best. Some more of those aired but didn't do well.

As for The Beverly Hillbillies, I doubt it personally...who knows if we'll ever see those 60s sitcoms aired again.

tvparadise
07-26-2010, 12:30 PM
That Program Exchange list could potentially be out of date? (It does say Benson ends on 5/29/10)

Of course The Munsters could not return in a more fitting month than October! Bewitched could be paired well with it (not as well as IDOJ, but they're both fantasy sitcoms).

retrofan05
07-26-2010, 12:47 PM
It would be nice to see the new sitcom airing at 6 PM and Bewitched (assuming it returns) airing at 7 in October. This way they wouldn't really have to change the schedule around too much.

I'm glad The Jeffersons and Good Times are coming back. But it seems like a strange move.

Yes, and it surprised me since they haven't been expired for too long. I guess they needed to acquire something (possibly was cheap since it isn't exclusive) since they were losing three series.

As for the Program Exchange hint, it may or not may not be listed on their website. That's all I can say.

Jeffersons coming back for what? I can't see it and it's not on during the weekends and not only that the cosby show is gone and that stupid a$$ show "the nanny" is all over the tv schedule for september.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Just Shoot Me air in October. The Munsters would be my other choice. JSM would be great to air with the originals in January, but it never did well before, while The Munsters did.

Anyways, why is everyone hating on this schedule? I absolutely love it. Of course, I love every show that's airing 7pm-4am. Roseanne, The Nanny, Raymond, Home Improvement - what a great lineup. It's also quite compatible. Sure, TV Land has gone in a completely new direction with primetime, but can you blame them? It obviously seems to be working. While some of you may not like Roseanne airing at 7pm, it's perfectly compatible leading into The Nanny at 8pm, and it seems to be one of their higher rated shows to do the job.

As for Good Times and The Jeffersons - it's absolutely great seeing that morning lineup back in action. They were quick acquisitions, and perfect to make up a morning block I think. They aren't really needed anywhere else on the lineup. Overall, I think this is a great lineup, with great variety, and truly spans completely different ends of the spectrum.

clj2
07-26-2010, 05:15 PM
Remember, this show coming in October is the long discussed classic. So I doubt it's anything like Just Shoot Me. There were 2 for this year...the one in March (Bewitched) and this one later in the year.

It will be interesting to see how the morning schedule works. Good Times and The Jeffersons weren't very stable towards the end of their runs and they don't have much of a tolerance for older shows that don't do well anymore. When The Cosby Show leaves, they will have no 80s shows left.

Pavan
07-26-2010, 05:27 PM
Yes, the October one is for sure the long-awaited "second classic." Not a 90s show and not an 80s show, either. That is all I will say.

As for this September schedule, I only like the 9am-11am, 6-7pm, and 2-4am shows. The rest is blah.

JulieSomoski

Assuming The Munsters is the show coming in October, this would be a great schedule, much better than the actual September one. Every show would get to air and nothing would air more than 2 hours on weekdays.

6-7AM The Beverly Hillbillies
7-8AM Hogan's Heroes
8-9AM All in the Family
9-10AM The Jeffersons
10-11AM Good Times
11AM-12PM Sanford & Son

9-11PM Everybody Loves Raymond

I LOVE that idea for a schedule. It makes a lot more sense than what they are doing. I'd watch 3-8pm straight. Would LITB work, though? They renewed it but have hardly aired it. I am starting to doubt we will see it again - seems it's gone the way of Star Trek. Which is a shame, as it's probably my favorite TV Land show.

Since The Cosby Show does decently as an 80s sitcom, I wonder if it will wind up elsewhere. It's on WGN, but they don't really air it much. Perhaps Hallmark? I just doubt that it will stay off of national TV long - it's one of those shows like Lucy, MASH, The Golden Girls, etc.

Well that was kind of disappointing to learn about those pickups. I like "The Jeffersons" but it had its chance and I just don't like "Good Times" at all - it also had its chance too. Every time a show comes "back" to TV Land, it always seems to be one that was only away a short time, so it's not that exciting

Stinks about The Cosby Show, although it's on WGN and Nick At Nite, as well as my local channel. 3rd Rock wasn't airing anyway, but I have that on dvd. That'll be cool to see The Jeffersons, but it's already on tv. I wonder what the new acquisition is.

I honestly think that it's a pretty decent schedule. Too much Andy Griffith, don't like Home Improvement being killed in latenight (but that's not a new development for them), and also not really a fan of the Monday movie in the mornings.

But still, at least they brought back two classic 70's sitcoms that are very popular. I agree, though, that those two are not very exciting to see come back since it seems that they only JUST left the station! We were all so excited imagining which shows it could be and these 2 never really entered the thought process because we were hoping for a show we hadn't seen for a while :(

Anyways, at least the mornings will have more variety that way. I agree with your guys' pretend schedules though. They should be airing Good Times and Jeffersons and hour each and cut back on their Andy Griffith marathons.

Also, guys, remember, their October schedule is the REAL fall schedule. The September one is just sort of placeholding until the second classic sitcom we've all been wondering about comes along and Bewitched returns from its short hiatus.

Crazy to think that Cosby Show's takeover of Nick at Nite and TV Land seems to be coming to a close. WGN hardly airs it anymore, either. Could it return to TBS one day, maybe? Or perhaps BET?

As pavan stated, that second classic sitcom comes from the Program Exchange whose programs include:

-227
-3rd Rock from the Sun
-Addams Family
-Benson
-Bewitched
-Bosom Buddies
-Coach
-Gimme A Break
-Just Shoot Me
-NewsRadio
-The Munsters

Clearly, it's going to be one of either The Munsters or the Addams Family. Either would fit well next to Bewitched, also of the Program Exchange. So, it's not shocking to think that maybe part of the deal with Program Exchange and TV Land acquiring Bewitched was that they had to get a second show and air it in a block, perhaps. Munsters or Addams Family being added in October also makes sense as it's Halloween season and both are creepy sort of sitcoms.

In conclusion, their schedule has a bit of repetitiveness, but 2 more 70s shows is always nice and it's really not all that different from what's being aired today. We should reserve all opinions for when the second part of the schedule is announced for October.

kinda re: Dsfan: I think the most logical for The Cosby Show to go is Hallmark. It fits perfectly with what they're trying to do and their other shows (along with two other huge 80s sitcoms, Cheers and Golden Girls). I think it is definitely too old to air on TBS now.

TV Land needs to ship Home Improvement back to Nick at Nite. It obviously failed badly and looks like the lowest rated show on TV Land. It's stupid to air it at 3am. Give it an overnight block on NAN, for 2 hours maybe from 4-6am or something. I'm honestly surprised it failed like it did.

The Munsters has been acquired three times by TV Land. First, it came in September 2000; expired late 2003? and back February 2004; expired, then brought back once again in February? of 2007. The Addams Family has been acquired 3 times as well, but spread out more than The Munsters and had more hiatuses. I always felt that it would come back at some point because it has aired on there so much. It fits with shows like Bewitched and even Leave It to Beaver. So, I definitely think that's the show for October.

BTW: I'm thinking I read somewhere Bosom Buddies is no longer a PE show, not that they would acquire it, lol.

Nice list there from The Program Exchange. Of course TVLand will NEVER pick up the ones they should like 227, Benson or Gimme A Break as that would be something different. I haven't watched TVLand in about 7 years or so and I see I am missing nothing.

I already have complete seasons of most of what they are airing or bringing back so I really see no need to watch it. The above three shows would be good as they are not out yet in complete seasons.

I'd watch RTV but the signal here across the river from Louisville, KY is so poor it doesn't even come in (Channels 21.1 through 21.6) are all apparently low power. I can receive every other channel fine with an indoor antenna even the low power Indiana 9 but none of them show anything worth watching except RTV. I like classic shows and all of this junk from the 1990's just doesn't fit my bill of classic. But then TVLand is not what it was in 1995 when it debuted.

Can't say I'm that impressed with the upcoming lineup. Then again, I haven't watched much of TV Land since they implemented TV Land Prime in '08. Maybe if they bring back The Munsters or The Addams Family, I'll watch more.

I can now talk about and confirm that The Cosby Show will NOT be homeless on cable come Sept. 20. It will indeed move to another network as it is leaving WGN and TV Land/Nick at Nite. Where will it go? You'll have to keep coming back on the blog everyday to check our fall schedules! Stay tuned...

Ooooh, excited to find out the news! It would've been way too weird to not have Cosby Show on any major cable network.

My guesses would be TV One or BET. I really don't see it on Hallmark. They already don't have as much time for sitcoms with Martha coming and need to find time for their current sitcoms (Who's the Boss, Golden Girls, I Love Lucy).

Maybe TBS as a darkhorse pick but I'd put that at lower than 0.5% chance of happening.

I think it's either TV One or Hallmark. Hallmark could do something with it, maybe in the evening? They are the best fit, really. I think they could fit it from 6-7pm or sometihing (I wouldn't be surprised to see Lucy and WTB? get post-midnight or early morning slots).

TV LAND ANNOUNCES NEW REALITY SERIES “FOREVER YOUNG”
FROM KATALYST AND 3 BALL PRODUCTIONS

Ashton Kutcher, Jason Goldberg, JD Roth and Todd A. Nelson
Exec-Produce Six-Episode Series That Teams Septuagenarians With 20-Somethings In A Unique Social Experiment

August 11, 2010 – Los Angeles, CA -- TV Land today announced it has picked up the new reality series “Forever Young” from Ashton Kutcher and Jason Goldberg’s Katalyst (“Punk’d,” “True Beauty”), and 3 Ball Productions headed by Executive Producers JD Roth and Todd A. Nelson (“The Biggest Loser,” “MasterChef”).

The producers have previously teamed on their long-running hit “Beauty and the Geek,” and they are known for creating series that challenge society’s preconceptions about beauty, image and what people ultimately can achieve. Now, the six-episode reality competition “Forever Young” takes on ageism as it explores the generations’ ideas and misconceptions about each other.

Part reality show, part social experiment, “Forever Young” bridges the generation gap as “Juniors” and “Seniors” work together to experience each other’s point of view and find out just how much they do — or don’t — have in common. When separated by five decades, six wars and 10 presidents, “Forever Young” explores how revealing and how funny it can be when youth and wisdom join forces, whether in appreciation of the past, understanding the present or preparing for the future.

“Ashton, Jason, JD and Todd’s take on the generation gap facing Americans today is brilliant,” said Larry W. Jones, president, TV Land. “The contestants in ‘Forever Young’ have challenging, touching but mostly hilarious interactions that make for some good, clean fun.”

JD Roth, executive producer and CEO, 3 Ball Productions/Eyeworks US, said, “We’re so excited to be bringing this Eyeworks format to the US, and to be working on ‘Forever Young’ with TV Land — a network that knows a thing or two about how family and generational dynamics play out on television. As a producer, it’s extremely gratifying to be working in partnership with a visionary parent company and a creative channel to adapt the types of shows that resonate with audiences all over the world.

“Katalyst is thrilled to join the TV Land team. We’re all about pushing the boundaries of social belief systems and this show will do just that by placing different generations in situations that will create great comedy along with some poignant moments,” said Jason Goldberg, partner and CEO, Katalyst.

Jason Goldberg and Ashton Kutcher serve as executive producers for Katalyst. JD Roth and Todd A. Nelson are executive producers for 3 Ball Productions/Eyeworks US. Eliot Goldberg and Marco Bresaz serve as executive producers for TV Land.

I'm surprised now that the Brady Bunch is now "homeless"-as evergreen as that show is. Another one that's been missing for too long from a national slot is The Dick Van Dyke Show.

Yes, The Nanny didn't do well in primetime. It does OK late nights.

catsrule, I don't think you'll see a schedule that way. They won't drastically change everything. I could see something like this when Bewitched/Jeannie are back in November:

It's funny, TV Land seems so convinced that it needs the newer shows to survive, yet I can't think of single newer show that has done well in the 8 PM time-slot, except maybe The Cosby Show. Honestly, there aren't that many newer shows that have done well on TV Land. This is what I would do with the schedule:

8:00 AM All in the Family 2x
9:00 AM Sanford & Son 2x
10:00 AM The Jeffersons 2x
11:00 AM Good Times 2x
12:00 PM Gunsmoke
1:00 PM Gunsmoke
2:00 PM Bonanza
3:00 PM Bonanza
4:00 PM I Dream of Jeannie 2x
5:00 PM Bewitched 2x
6:00 PM All in the Family 2x
7:00 PM Sanford & Son 2x
8:00 PM Andy Griffith Show 2x (their most popular show, so it would probably be the best show for this time slot).
9:00 PM Everybody Loves Raymond 4x
11:00 PM Roseanne 4x
1:00 AM The Nanny 2x
2:00 AM Three's Comapny 4x
4:00 AM M*A*S*H 4x

I think it's time to move Home Improvement back to Nick at Nite. It obviously isn't doing well on TV Land.

I knew The Nanny would bomb (ok, so it does well late nights, but overall). I knew it would when we learned years ago it was coming. It was a surprise on Nick at Nite, though.

Funny The Nanny does well on Nick at Nite but fails on TV Land. I can't think of any 90s/00s shows other than Raymond and Roseanne that have done well on TV Land. Home Improvement won't work at 8pm, it didn't before...it needs to go back to Nick at Nite.

Edit: I'd do this in the morning with All in the Family back in evenings and all of that Sanford and Son. The ones that can't get evening airings at least deserve decent morning airings:

8:00am Hogan's Heroes 2x
9:00am Leave it to Beaver 2x
10:00am The Beverly Hillbillies 2x
11:00am The Jeffersons 2x
12:00pm Good Times 2x
1:00pm Gunsmoke
2:00pm Bonanza

I think the reason The Nanny does so well on Nick at Nite is that it has a different demographic than TV Land (a younger demographic). The same was true for Home Improvement which also did very well on Nick at Nite. TV Land needs to stop airing current Nick at Nite shows. Most of them are not right for the TV Land audience. Just because a show does well on one network, doesn't mean it's automatically going to be a success on another.

They moved The Cosby Show back on NAN some, so maybe they will bring Home Improvement back eventually. It's a better fit with Malcolm, G. Lopez, etc. It never struck me as a TV Land show. Then again, Everybody Loves Raymond worked....but we've seen this over and over with these shows; Mad About You, The Nanny, Murphy Brown, Wings, Designing Women, Boston Legal, Scrubs, etc....the newer programs just don't make it on TV Land. I'm sure Curb Your Enthusiasm will fail also. These newer shows just don't work for them.

It's funny they are relying so much on Sanford and Son - I remember TheLink saying it was one of, if not their oldest-skewing shows with the audience in their 60s typically. It'll be interesting to see how the coming months play out with no new "big" shows really coming. I guess they are sacrificing demographics for overall numbers now.

This has me wondering, what next then? Will they stay as they are? If they want to add newer shows the selection is dwindling because so many have failed.

I didn't finish my schedule, but this is what I would do:

8:00am Hogan's Heroes 2x
9:00am Leave it to Beaver 2x
10:00am The Beverly Hillbillies 2x
11:00am The Jeffersons 2x
12:00pm Good Times 2x

2:00pm Bonanza
3:00pm Bonanza

4:30pm I Dream of Jeannie
5:00pm Sanford and Son 2x
6:00pm The Andy Griffith Show 4x
8:00pm M*A*S*H 2x
9:00pm Everybody Loves Raymond 4x
11:00pm Roseanne 4x
1:00am The Nanny 2x
2:00am Three's Company 4x
4:00am Bewitched
4:30am I Dream of Jeannie
5:00am M*A*S*H 2x

I know it's drastic, but wouldn't this make much more sense? 5pm-11pm would get great ratings, everything gets a chance, and it would flow well.

I didn't think about M*A*S*H airing at a decent time during the week. It is hugely popular, or at least it was when it first started airing on TV Land. I wonder why it doesn't air at a decent time during the week? Remember when Andy Griffith only aired on weekends for a while? That too made completely no sense. It's the classics that are the most popular. Why are they fighting that?

Pavan

Maybe they are trying to put M*A*S*H back on weekdays at 8 because they added Saturdays 8-9pm (in addition to the already scheduled Sun 8-10pm airings). I can totally see them adding it back to weekdays 8-9pm come November.

clj2

I can definitely see M*A*S*H at 8pm. What other show besides Andy Griffith really suits that slot? I don't think they'll bring any of the 90s shows back in to that time. I know M*A*S*H was huge when they added it.

Remember Sanford and Son? They didn't air it very much at all (said the demographics were very old) for a while but now it's back airing 5 times a day. Very similar to Andy Griffith's situation. How are their prime time #s?

Was this originally scheduled?
The Andy Griffith Show will air all day Monday from 8am-7pm. Looks like they're mostly encoring Sunday's episodes.

As much as I love the show, this 50th anniversary stuff has been a little too much, especially 3 hours every day.

I put Family Matters on the schedule, since Nick at Nite is only airing it during the early morning hours. I'm surprised they haven't already moved it, like they did with Home Improvement and The Nanny.

I know some people don't consider the 90's shows ''classic'' just yet, but at least they're old, unlike all these original series and shows like Boston Legal.
