In early 1970, before her eponymous show started its seven season run, Mary Tyler Moore was diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus Type 1. Moore has been battling the disease for 40 years, even during the run on the TV series. She also nearly lost her vision and at least one limb to the disease. Moore has since become an advocate for Type 1 Diabetes and is also the International Chairman for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Mary Tyler Moore has also released a book recently, which contained a few facts about her struggle with diabetes. The book is titled "Growing Up Again: Life, Loves, and Oh Yeah, Diabetes".

I wonder what it is like having to go your entire life having to inject all that insulin every time your blood sugar drops. For Mary Tyler Moore, it should have been like having 150+ acupuncture needles inserted on her face (or a certain part of the body).

I have so much respect for Mary, how she is able to stay on top of this disease, make such wonderful entertainment contributions, and for all the volunteer work she does for diabetes. I think she is terrific and I have the utmost respect for her. As someone prediabetic, I know how much work Type 1's have to do to take care of themselves.

I agree!
I can't even imagine how difficult it must be to go through life with diabetes and yet Mary's still as vibrant and as important as ever.
I'm not religious, but God bless her, seriously!
