B.J. Novak Signs New Deal with "The Office"

Steve Carell may ride off into the sunset after season seven of "The Office", but apparently, the show will go on.

Variety.com is reporting that B.J. Novak, who plays former temp Ryan Howard and also serves as a writer/producer on the show, has signed a deal to come back for the upcoming seventh season and an eighth season.

Novak's new contract will make him executive producer next season (he's already a co-executive producer) and he'll direct two episodes.

Novak directed the 'Scott's Tots' episode in season six, in which Michael Scott promised a group of students he'd pay their college tuition if they graduated high school, and also directed the Webisodes series 'The Office: Blackmail.'

Novak will also have the opportunity to develop new projects for Universal Media Studios.

Novak has been part of the writing staff from the beginning of the show, penning episodes like 'Diversity Day,' 'Sexual Harassment,' 'The Fire,' and 'Dream Team.'

He has held a variety of titles with "The Office", serving as co-executive producer, supervising producer, and executive story editor.

Oh no, how about the show itself ride off into the sunset? 'Cause for The Office, there will be NO SEASON EIGHT. It needs to end altogether after seven seasons.

It will end for you after season seven. But for those who choose to watch beyond that, it's available to them. I, for one, will watch season eight and beyond (if there is a beyond). I'm very loyal to the shows I love, so I watch them until the end, no matter how many cast changes there are.

Steve Carell leaving will be a huge hit to the show, but I think it could still work. My favorite character (Michael Scott) will be gone, but I like most of the other characters enough to keep tuning in.

No, I was saying The Office needs to be cancelled. I don't really like the Office that much. Maybe you don't know how self-destructive NBC is right now. Hope season 7 is the final season, Friday Night Lights and Smallville will also end after the next season. There will not be a season eight for this show. There won't be a season 8, dude.

If you don't watch it, then why do you care if it goes on or not? Besides they already said it will. They're looking for a replacement. Sure things could change, but as of now, it's a go for season eight. Novac just signed on for that season.

And I say it cannot. And no more, they need to just forget about an eighth season. It's not going to happen anymore, and you want to know why? Because Season 7 is the final season for the series. NBC may as well wish that series the best in its future endeavours. wish that series I hope this show does end soon and its producers and cast just wrap things up soon. They already have enough episodes for syndication. Any potential replacement is not going to work, it is going to be worse than Scrubs's epic fail 9th season. I hate Novak. Give him a spinoff instead. Let Season 7 be the last, just pack it in and call it quits.

Also, the other series should end:
Two and a Half Men - 2012
30 Rock - 2012
How I Met Your Mother - 2013
The Simpsons - Sometime this decade (season 25)

I don't think it will work with another boss which is why it may become unwatchable. Michael brings out the FUNNY in all the characters and without him I just don't see the show working.

I hate Two and a Half Men, so I wish it only lasted two episodes. But seeing as it is a hit, I can understand CBS doing all they can to keep it on, despite Sheen's troubles. They have a contract for 9 seasons total, and I don't think they'll go past that.

As for "30 Rock", they may take another hit from Alec Baldwin leaving. Of course, he's said a lot of things lately, so he may not be serious, but he's said this next season is his last. I think if "The Office" can continue without Carell, this can continue without Baldwin. And NBC doesn't have a lot of hits, so if the Carell-less Office bombs, they may need a hit show to remain on their schedule for a couple more seasons.

As for "How I Met Your Mother", the guy who plays Marshall says he's leaving after season 8. So either they continue without him or it ends at 8. I see them ending it before doing the show without him. Eight seasons is plenty, any more is overkill.

To me, The Simpsons should have ended in either the late 90s or early 2000s. This may be on forever! It will continue to be mediocre comedy, but it may be on reguardless.
