Season 2 reveals that Mr. Mooney has at least 2 sons, one played by Barry Livingston, a classmate of Jerry, and another, high-school age who dates Chris. Never knew he had a family, besides his un-seen wife!

The high school age son was played by Michael J. Pollard. I didn't know about these sons either until I started watching the season 2 DVD's.

He was played at first by Eddie Applegate, who soon after moved to NYC to play Richard Harrison on The Patty Duke Show. Then Michael J. Pollard played him for the second and final time.

By my count, Mr. Mooney has at least three sons, because Richard Harrison and Michael J. Pollard were not playing the same character: Barry Livingston played Arnold Mooney, Eddie Applegate played Bob Mooney, and Richard Harrison played Ted Mooney.

^they simply gave Bob a new name....LOL. Ted was supposed to have been a recurring character but after Michael J. Pollard weirded everyone out on the set, it was decided not to bother bringing on the Mooney progeny again. Mr. Mooney also had an unseen married daughter, who would be mentioned in the Ethel Merman two parter.

Did we ever get to see his wife Irma?

I'm pretty sure we never see "Invisible Irma"

I guess all these kids just disappear when Mooney moves to California!

The Irma character makes an apperance, but her face is obscured with cake frosting. Its the episode where Lucy loses her contact lense in frosting, while baking a cake for a bake sale or something.

He weirded everyone out? Ha! I have to ask how because I watched the "Chris Goes Steady" show yesterday, and it almost seemed like he was stoned or on something during the filming! Of course, he was like 25 or 26 at the time playing someone who was a teenager which maybe freaked him out!

What scene was that? It must have been edited out because I've seen that episode many times and the only ones I've seen with frosting on their face were Lucy and Viv.

In the episode with Dean Martin, we might have seen Irma Mooney. It's the scene where Lucy goes to the ball and first sees Mr. Mooney there. He's there with a couple people, one of whom appears to be his date. The woman doesn't have any dialogue, but I would assume he wouldn't be accompanying any woman to this ball other than his wife.

^I was gonna say this, but the woman in question also doesn't fit Mr Mooney's description of Irma from all those times he did mention her

That's true, she didn't have a mustache.

Eddie Applegate was even older! When he played Mooney's teenage son, he was 27. He had turned 30 and was already divorced by the time that he ended his days playing Patty Lane's teenage HS sweetheart Richard Harrison.

I just watched the Chris Goes Steady episode. It was pretty funny watching it after reading here that Michael Pollard weirded everybody out! I guess he did seem a little weird!

Is it me, or did the only time Pollard seem animated was when he talked about being a security guard and did the "Bang! Bang!" with his finger acting as a gun? Perhaps that is what did it to weird everyone out!

It sure seemed like it :)

Interesting in just a few years after he did Lucy, Pollard would star in the Warren Beatty-Faye Dunaway flick "Bonnie and Clyde". Maybe, perhaps Beatty had remembered Pollard for that "Bang !" scene and that is what helped Pollard get the part playing C.W. Moss in Bonnie & Clyde.

In real life, Pollard was one time married to Beth Howland, timid Vera on "Alice".
You would have to read The Lucy Book to get a feel of why Pollard was never brought back. If Eddie Applegate hadn't gotten the role of Richard on "The Patty Duke Show", he most assuredly would have been a recurring regular and we would have more of Bob Mooney, rather than a Ted Mooney, Jr.

@ LittleRickyII
From what I remember, Lucy had to sneek into Mr. Mooney's house at night through the doggy door, because the only cake she hadn't checked was the one set aside for Irma. (I think Mr. Mooney had picked it up earlier). after Mr Mooney came to the kitchen thinking it was a burglar...yadda yadda yadda... a cake goes flying through the kitchen door to cover and obscure Irma's face as she walked into the Kitchen...end scene

Hmm, either your memory is playing tricks or something got cut. I don't want to spoil anything, but I can tell you someone's face does end up with cake on it, but it's not Irma. If there's some bit cut out where Irma had cake on her face, then there would be two people with cake on their face. And the way the scene ends is with Mooney watching Lucy and Viv leave the kitchen the same way they entered (avoiding another spoiler here). No one else is in the room with them.
