View Full Version : The TV Land website stinks!
SpenceOlchin 07-12-2010, 01:10 PM Anybody else find the new TV Land website very user unfriendly and ultimately mediocre? It seems like some social networking fanatic got a hold of it with all the facebook stuff and stupid features. Plus the web traffic to the forums, seems to not be what it once was. Although, I believe that started to decline after Link left. If you like the new look, then that's fine but this wasn't what I was expecting. I know this change happened about a month ago, but I've only recently tried to actually interact with others over there.
catlover79 07-12-2010, 03:36 PM I agree - and I hate what they did to the Jump the Shark website. I hate that you can no longer read user comments on the different shows.
benjamoon 07-12-2010, 04:17 PM I actually like the new look of the site, I think it's more visually appealing but I do agree that the forums have gone downhill a lot
and I completely agree about the Jump the Shark website, what a disappointment - it used to be so good!

I could be having the worst day and go on the JTS website. Within seconds, I'd be howling at some of the comments about different shows. I say they should bring them back!!!
McGillicuddy 07-12-2010, 05:30 PM It doesn't surprise me that the TVLand website stinks. The whole network stinks! (Except for Hot in Cleveland, of course!!)
yankeesrj12 07-12-2010, 05:33 PM I actually love the new website!

YEAHH!!! The Jump the Shark website was amazingggg! I remember it had almost every show and millions of comments on each that you could just be sitting on your computer on that one website for hours at a time.

The Link Left???????
TVFactFan 07-12-2010, 11:52 PM I agree - and I hate what they did to the Jump the Shark website. I hate that you can no longer read user comments on the different shows.
OMG Monika, are you serious?? You can't read viewera comennts anymore on JTS?
icecream 07-13-2010, 12:10 AM The Link Left???????Yes, at the end of February
TVFactFan 07-13-2010, 12:11 AM Yes, at the end of February
Does he have a replacement?
icecream 07-13-2010, 12:15 AM they have a moderator or two, but no one who reads every post like link did
TVFactFan 07-13-2010, 12:16 AM It cleat that TVland.com and JTS.com have changed because I can no longer accesss either site on my MSN TV
TVFactFan 07-13-2010, 12:17 AM they have a moderator or two, but no one who reads every post like link did
So basically it's no longer a section where you can have your questions answered?
icecream 07-13-2010, 12:31 AM So basically it's no longer a section where you can have your questions answered?Right. The Ask thelink forum was removed the day he left, then TVland totally changed their message boards in June when Hot in Cleveland premiered. The new message boards are a step backwards and I haven't been back since I saw the changes.

Sadly, no. TV Guide took it over months ago and changed everything. Take a look for yourself and weep:

benjamoon 07-13-2010, 10:45 PM Good news, Jump the Shark fans!
You can still access the old site (or at least parts of it) using the Wayback Machine - I don't know why I never thought to check before but this discussion reminded me to. Enjoy!

catlover79 07-14-2010, 01:25 AM ^ Very cool!! Thanks!! :D
SpenceOlchin 07-14-2010, 06:21 AM I like the Wayback Machine. It's especially interesting to see what the Nick@Nite/TVLand website looked like in the past. I found a relatively good example from the year 2000:

Oh, how far website designs have come. :)
I also found what the MSNBC website looked like in 1997:

Does anyone remember TV Tome? It was the best site....then it became tv.com after somebody bought it, I don't remember who (I think it had to do with CNET at some point). Now it's really commercial and isn't what it used to be. I think CBS owns it now.
And yeah, I agree the TV Land site isn't interesting. It still looks too classic TV'ish for the direction they're wanting.
As for the message boards, they seem to have taken a step back in time. The boards that used to be fun, such as the Leave it to Beaver board, are abandoned now. The boards for the more recent shows certainly don't get the traffic the classic ones used to.
big bertha 07-15-2010, 11:09 PM I miss reading what people actually thought about the tvland. I guess they only want positive messages posted on what seems to me like a social network dating service to me. I am not going to put my life on facebook for the world to see. Why do people want to do this? Sometimes there can be too much information out there. Some things need to be kept private. Eh?
I liked the old web board better because you could find things alot easier. My computer is slow and old. I thing I need to put it out of its misery. I named my computer old yeller. Tee Hee. I think it has rabies now.
catlover79 07-16-2010, 01:51 AM Old Yeller...I like that.

Yessss!!! TV Tome was one of the best websites for TV fans. They had such great full descriptions of episodes of most shows. I remember reading a lot of them for some shows I liked that weren't being aired on TV at the time.
It was like Wikipedia, in that anybody could add information to the show's page. Great site, miss it.
