"Glee" Planning Britney Spears Episode

Britney Spears certainly isn't 'Toxic' to the producers of the Fox hit "Glee".

Ryan Murphy, creator of "Glee", confirmed to Entertainment Tonight on Thursday that a Spears episode is in the works. It's not clear whether Spears herself will appear on the show, however.



Spears' manager, Adam Leber, started a Twitter campaign in April to have a Spears episode on "Glee":

"Do you guys want to see a Britney Spears episode of GLEE?'' Leber tweeted. "Thoughts?''

"Glee's" Brittany to Take on Britney Spears: Who Else Deserves Their Own Episode?

For fans of both "Glee" and pop culture in general, it was a hot topic of debate: Who would get their own spotlight episode first, media punching bag Britney Spears or Brittany, the glee club's resident air-headed, cheerleading second banana?

Now we know the answer -- both.





Yes, don't bother pinching yourself, because this isn't just a dream, it's a dream come true:

According to TV Guide, season 2's Britney Spears-themed episode, which we told you about last week, will star none other than Brittany herself, Heather Morris, in the lead role.






Brittany, of course, has quickly emerged as a fan favorite thanks to her antics, such as declaring that "dolphins are just gay sharks," which frequently have heads shaking and tongues wagging around the water cooler the next day.

The popularity of the character, which originally was written simply as a background part, seemed to take "Glee" producers a bit off guard, because while they have been slowly increasing her air time, they have yet to feature her in any of the musical numbers, leading some cynical fans to speculate that perhaps Morris doesn't have the vocal chops to pull it off.





Series creator Ryan Murphy pooh-poohs the idea.

"Heather's actually got a terrific voice," Murphy told TV Guide. And Morris herself doesn't seem nervous at all about the opportunity, stating in typically excited fashion to E! Online that, "I heard there's a Britney Spears episode coming up and fingers crossed that I get to sing, because I play Brittany and I'm like, 'Oh my god, it's insane.'"




Morris will reportedly sing two Spears songs in the episode.
