By the way, I don't know if real marriage means anything anymore.
The ex-wife of Gary Coleman is expected to file a petition in court early next week declaring her relationship with the deceased actor was a common-law marriage.
The filing, which is expected to be submitted to 4th District Court in Provo, asks that a judge declare the marriage in order to legalize a last known amendment to his will. That handwritten codicil, allegedly by Coleman, gives all remaining assets to his ex-wife, Shannon Price, 24.
Price’s Spanish Fork attorney, Todd Bradford, said Thursday they have enough evidence to support the claim the couple was under a common-law marriage even though they divorced in August 2008.
The two met in 2005 on the set of the movie “Church Ball,” which was made in Salt Lake City. Coleman died May 28 after suffering a brain injury from a fall in his Santaquin home.
In the months before his death, Coleman and Price were still living together, had filed their tax returns jointly as a married couple, held joint bank accounts, and he named Price his wife on forms filed for Social Security and Medicaid, Bradford said.
“[There is] a lot of evidence out there that shows Gary and Shannon truly did hold themselves out to the public as a married couple.”
In an unrestricted interview with The Salt Lake Tribune (from which a full story will be published next week), Price said she was pursuing Coleman’s remaining assets not for the money but because she feels it is what’s right.
“It is important to me because I was his only wife and I’m still his wife regardless if it’s on paper or not. I don’t care about that,” she said about his estate. “We were still living together. We had a great five years.”
Meanwhile, tabloid website RadarOnline has reported some of Coleman’s former friends will conduct a private memorial service Friday in Los Angeles and have not invited Price.
Mr. Television 07-09-2010, 10:02 AM Gary's friends should hire a private detective to look into Shannon since the police won't do anything about her. Marriage doesn't mean anything anymore...it sure didn't for her.
Harmony233 07-09-2010, 10:58 AM Shannon and her family are crazy.I swear I saw her father talking in some newspaper article.Talking about how that they was the only family Gary had but then he claimed that they was planning on adopting. That didn't sound like Gary From my understanding he never wanted kids. Not to mention he seemed to have issues at being adopted. Then maybe a week or so ago Shannon and her rep claimed Gary was dying and only had like a year left.Shannon sems to change her story daily. How in the world the police are not investigating is beyond me.

Amen! It's time to get Paul Petersen, Todd Bridges and others on this - because the circumstances surrounding Gary's death are beyond suspicious. Like others on this board, I have no idea why there is no criminal investigation going on.

SO TRUE!! Poor Gary was with a leech and gold digger and he didn't deserve this! If he was with a woman who TRULY cared she would've helped him immediately instead of letting him bleed to death on the floor and then PULL THE PLUG in the hospital after only 24 hours!!
She should in jail for something since she's definitely involved somehow!!

Especially since SHE was the one who wanted Gary to buy her all that luxuriously-appointed high-end stuff.
Like he said, she was only out for money from him and whatever else she could get out of him. I SWEAR that she had something to do with his tragic and supposed 'accident' in the kitchen.
I think she got mad with him and probably hit him in the back of his head with a blunt object, and when it looked as though Gary was coming out of his coma, she immediately had him removed from his life-support system to shut him up for good.
He might have been trying to let someone know what REALLY happened on that day, but he couldn't, and his ex had MADE sure that nothing else was going to get out from him!!! We might not ever know now what Gary was about to reveal!!!
And since she's going around claiming that the relationship with Gary was 'common marriage', then why on earth was she so quick to have him removed fron life support, even when she KNEW that Gary wanted to be kept alive as long as humanly possible?!
Something just isn't right with her!! She had stopped Gary from being alive way too abruptly!!!!!

Yes, you don't pull the plug after only 24 hours! If she really loved Gary she would've kept him there as long as possible. People have been in comas for months and weeks and woken up!
Ariel Sharon is STILL in coma after all these years!
But I'm really surprised the doctors in Utah would've given up so fast after only 24 hours! They should've known that a patient can wake up after just 24hours and they should NOT have pulled the plug so quickly!
Shannon should be in JAIL!

Either the police are stupid, or she paid them off with the dirty money that she got from those disgusting photos of Gary in his hospital bed before he died!!!
Gary Coleman’s ex-wife’s attorney is taking the next step to ensure Shannon Price comes out on top.
In exclusive documents obtained by RadarOnline.com, her lawyer Todd Bradford officially filed a petition in Utah on Wednesday requesting the court grant Shannon and Gary’s union as common law marriage.e
“Today we’re filing papers asking the court to recognize that they [Shannon and Gary] were legally married under common law,” Bradford told RadarOnline.com exclusively.
“In Utah if you’re common law marriage you’re the same as if you were married by ceremony. You’re recognized as being married for all the same purposes as a married couple is.”
Gary’s ex-manager Anna Gray is named as the executor of his 2005 will and is locked in a legal battle with Shannon, who has a handwritten codicil from 2007.
Shannon and Gary married in August 2007 and divorced in 2008, but Shannon claims they rekindled their relationship and were common law husband and wife up until Gary passed away on May 28.
According to the state of Utah’s common law marriage code, five conditions have to be met: both parties are of legal marriage age and are able to give consent, are capable of being married, live(d) together as man and wife, assume(d) marital responsibilities and duties, and “held themselves out” as husband and wife and others perceive(d) them to be married.
Among the reasons listed in the documents that Bradford claims prove Gary and Shannon’s union was a common law marriage are: the couple continued a “romantic relationship” even after the divorce; they attended to each others physical, emotional and welfare needs; filed joint taxes; celebrated holidays together; and jointly owned and shared personal property.
“After the entry of the decree of divorce, Petitioner and the decedent continued to have a romantic relationship and engaged in romantic and sexual relations,” as stated in the petition.
“During the post divorce relationship, Petitioner and the decedent each manifested their intent and consent to be married, evidenced by: The decedent named Petitioner as the sole beneficiary of his pension account, the decedent applied for Supplemental Security Income on April 28, 2010, naming Petitioner as his wife, the decedent applied for Social Security Benefits on April 28, 2010, naming Petitioner as his wife.”
The other parties involved in the case, including Gary’s parents Willie & Edmonia Sue Coleman, Anna Gray, and special administrator Robert Jeffs, will have 20 days to file any objections.
“I don’t know what other information they would file trying to disprove a common law marriage,” Bradford said. “I think this is going to be one of the bigger issues in determining the rights of all the parties. We’re going to see if they file anything in the next 20 days. I don’t think the parents’ attorney would. If anyone, I’m guessing it would be Anna’s attorney.”
According to the petition, Shannon is asking the court for an order declaring her Gary’s surviving spouse, which would ultimately entitle her to the late Diff’rent Strokes star’s estate.
“If you name your spouse in a will as a personal representative or beneficiary or some other capacity, upon divorce that revokes it. But upon remarriage it revives,” Bradford explained. “It would be a huge step [for Shannon] and I think if we get the judge to grant a common law marriage. Part of me wonders if Anna will just drop out at that point because the law is pretty clear. Upon remarriage it revives any will and documents.
“That issue needs to be decided before you can decide who the personal representative is, who the beneficiary is, who’s in control of the assets,” Bradford added. “That’s a major issue in determining those other issues. So that needs to be decided first and that’s why that’s our next move. We want Shannon to be recognized as his spouse.”

This is ridiculous!!!
I mean, does she actually think that she's going to get ANYTHING out of this?
She was divorced from Gary, which means that she does NOT have any rights to try to get anything!!

I had a feeling that she was up to something.Shes been too quiet the last couple days. Why does she keep saying they had a sexual realtionship.I have read from more than one person that they was just roommates. This idiot needs to be put in the slammer.I still don't understand why she is not being investigated.

There is no evidence that they had a sexual relationship. The only one saying it is her. I've heard Gary say that they didn't have one. I supposed the one thing she has going for her is that everyone thought they were married when he died. I'll never understand why the divorce was kept secret. The only thing I can think of is she manipulated him like she always did. Now she is trying to manipulate everybody else.

That's mainly pretty much what she's all about!
Before he died and they were together and appeared on Divorce Court, I used to think that is was Gary who was controlling and dominant.
No wonder he threw so many wild fits and temper tantrums like a little boy! She DROVE him to do it whenever she wanted something from him, couldn't get it and forcibly DEMANDED it from him!!! He wasn't happy being with her. He was too stressed out, and stress IS a killer!!!
If she wasn't the sole murderer of Gary, then she certainly did stuff that helped Gary get even sicker and then caused him to die and leave us!!!
It is my belief that she nit-picked at Gary, making life so hard & miserable for him, and if she didn't get her way, she probably threatened Gary by saying; "I'll just take you to court to get what I want! You think you're broke now? Well, your NAME won't even mean anything to anyone when I'M done with you!!"
Honestly, I think that she probably intimidated and threatened him just before he was a guest on Insider in February! I think that she bullyied him into saying that their relationship is not a volatle one!!

Honestly I could see some of this in the Mel Gibson case too.
I heard that that Mel's woman was a gold-digger.
She knew what buttons to push to make Mel angry. She records the conversation and puts them on TV.
I know this is hard for some of us.
We have to keep following this for Gary's sake.
I did contact Paul Peterson on Facebook and he didn't even know about the memorial service. I e-mailed him a few articles.

Just when you might think that one person in a relationship might be abusive, turns out that it's the other one in the relationship!
Just like I once thought that it was Gary who was being abusive and then found out that it was his ex all along.
But Gibson has had issues, I think, long before this latest snafu. Maybe he needs theropy or something.

Agreed about Gibson having issues.
I think Mel could be bi-polar as well.
Gary had some anger issues before Shannon too.
So does Alec Baldwin.
Somehow Alec Baldwin rants at his daughter got released and made it on TV.
Maybe Kim Basinger.
My point is that some of the women they hook up with know how to push their buttons to make them go off.
Somehow these guys get hooked up with women though that are manipulative and abusive as well and it just ends up being a fatal combination.

Gary was also diagnosed with bipolar. Word has it that he didn't take his meds either. He also had epilepsy as well. Poor Gary!!
If he'd have only tried to address those health issues and sought help, he could have very well been alive today!! :( :( :(

I had no idea that he had them health problems too.I also think the media thrived on making things seem worse. For example Shannon had also been arrested but that wasn't mentioned at all on the insider.

You're right!
It was never at all mentioned that SHE was arrested during Gary's guest appearance on Insider, but the media and all just COULDN'T WAIT to blurt out and point out that GARY was arrested!!
Even had HIS mug posted on the jumbotron behind him, but not HERS!!
Gary was also hospitalized back in February for heart surgery. It was THEN that he did not want Shannon there at the house while he was in the hospital, but she went there anyway!!
