Avatar Returning to Theaters in August With Added Footage
July 8, 2010 | By: Bryan Enk

Get ready to return to Pandora.

MovieWeb has confirmed what was at best a "definite maybe" over the past several months: James Cameron's Avatar will be returning to movie theaters in August.

The re-release of Avatar will feature eight minutes of never-before-seen footage, exclusively in Digital 3-D and IMAX 3-D.

Since the initial release of Avatar back in December, the number of Digital 3-D projectors and screens has exploded, and those who missed the film in 3-D during its first round will have a chance to catch it in the format Cameron intended.

Avatar is the top-grossing movie of all time, having earned over $2.7 billion in worldwide box office.

It is also the best-selling Blu-ray disc of all time.

Avatar returns to theaters on Aug. 27, 2010.

I liked it, but you can bet a horse to death. lol. First a sequel, now unseen footage. Why not add it to the DVD? Waste of money basically seeing the whole thing again (what's 8 measley minutes?) Nothing wrong with the released verson. If it was cut out in the place, it wasn't a big part of the movie.

No, you're right. It is a marketing gimmick.

Now they have an excuse to make a NEW DVD/Blu-ray edition with the added extra footage lol.
