When Tyler Perry found out that an animated series did a nasty satire of him in a recent episode, he let the folks at Turner Broadcasting--for whom he has created the programs "House of Payne" and "Meet the Browns"--know about his displeasure, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Phil Kent, chief executive of Turner Broadcasting, reportedly apologized to Perry for not giving him warning about the ribbing in “The Boondocks,” televised on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, which is also a Turner channel.

Perry supposedly said he might rethink his relationship with Turner Broadcasting over this incident.

LOL, I know. He he actually supposed to be funny? Just asking.

He's coming off as a little baby or something. So what if someone made a joke about him. It's not like the Head of TBS made remarks himself. It's nothing he should be upset with the network over.

That would be aesome to see his shows go because TBS lowered their standards when they let his unfunny crap on TV. It is not funny or well written so goodbye House of Payne and Meet the Brown and please don't let him get involved with any other network so those shows can be new.

Sorry Tyler, better grow a thicker skin.

What an ego.....

I actually got a Payne rerun the other day on my local CW.....this is funny?? Give me Good Times anyday. The father character--yea, there may be some people actually that crude and obnoxious, but it doesn't work for long on a GOOD sitcom.

If you don't want to be satirized, or made fun of, don't be a public figure and don't put your shows on a cable network. And most of all, don't put your name above the title.

I saw an episode of "House of Payne" too and didn't get it. didn't Perry get contracted to produce over 100 episodes of that series, too? Amazing!

Well, what happened? How was he satrized? I want to know. As far as his two shows go, there were some inconsistencies with House of Payne. The writiing was not the greatest. I saw a few good eps in the beginning. After the first 60 eps, it began to get better to me. It's even better now as I am intrigued by the storylines. Even Perry was not pleased with the scripts in the beginning. He hired a staff of writers and the writings just seemed sort bland at first but much better now IMO.

Meet the Browns: I like the show as well but sometimes the writing was off and the character Brown can be overbearing from time to time. Like the character "Roseanne" (from the tv show Roseanne), it seems like Brown had a personality change. I actually like the first episodes in comparison to now. I still like the show but would make a few changes. I am a fan of both shows. I do wish Tyler Perry the best. Not everyone will like the sitcoms. It can be an aquired taste but not everyone will like that particular taste.


I would say that Perry should have thick skin and realize that he can be a target to the media to be made fun of. However, I can understand that if his family (Turner Co.) is poking fun how he would be upset. I just want to know what happened? That is my 25 cents.

If you haven’t found out yet, back in 2010, The Boondocks aired an episode titled “Pause” where one of the characters (Grandad) got cast in a play by Winston Jerome, who was a send-up of Tyler Perry. Winston’s most famous character was Ma Dukes, which was him in drag. Grandad spent weeks rehearsing for the play and was forced to stay inside a compound, unable to see his family. At the end, it’s discovered that Winston used the play as a gay cult and that his “totally heterosexual man just crossdressing for Christ” drivel was an act. Tyler Perry’s fanbase and scriptwriting were criticized and made fun of in the episode as well. Since Turner Broadcasting owned both Adult Swim (which The Boondocks aired on) and TBS (which aired Tyler Perry’s House of Payne and Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns at the time), Mr. Perry called in after sitting down and watching the episode and threatened to rethink his deal with TBS. Apparently, this “Pause” episode has been banned and isn’t available on any streaming services. I do think it’s available on dailymotion, though (not totally sure).
