Does anybody know if the TC actors had real beer in their glasses when they ordered alcoholic beverages at the Beagle?

My wife and I own all the TC DVD's, and we recently re-watched "A Black Letter Day". I mentioned to her that I doubt that the beverage in Larry's glass was real beer. She said she felt it could have been real beer since Richard Kline only took a sip. Wouldn't it be difficult for an actor to drink booze on the set of a movie, or a TV show, since alcoholic beverages impair a person's judgement, and the actor would have a hard time remembering his/her lines? It seems probable that producers/directors wouldn't allow alcoholic beverages on any Hollywood set. I remember reading somewhere, years ago, that on "The Carol Burnett Show", during the "Family" sketches...the cast was not drinking beer...they were drinking ginger ale.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Cheers!

Sincerely, Steve B. :)

I know that they didn't use real beer on "Cheers". And I suspect they didn't use real beer on "Three's Company" either.

In the TC book, the guy that played Jim the Bartender said they never had real alchohol. The white wine wasn't real, they had 7Up with a splash of coke and then left it out for like 6 hours so it wouldn't be bubbly. So in that case I guess no

How the actors didn't make faces while drinking flat soda is pretty amazing to me. :)

Would someone like to refresh my memory on what the episode "Black Letter Day" was about?

The episode when the trio thought the advice column in the paper was about them and that Jack was secretly dating one of the girls without the other one knowing. Also Lana saw the column and thought it was about the trio and was mad at Jack. This was also Lana's last epsode

Are you sure they were supposed to be drinking "white wine"? 7-Up mixed with Coke would make a dark colored beverage (kind of a reddish-brown).

Thanks for the info!

Not if you only put a tiny drop of coke in. Trust me, I know...when I first discovered TC I was about 11 or 12 and after I'd read about what they used as a replacement for alcohol on the show, I'd get my cousin and sister together and play "Regal Beagle" and use the exact concoction that was mentioned. It worked...at least as far as our young minds were concernced lol.

Ah...I see! Thanks for sharing that childhood anecdote with us!

Think about it. If they were drinking real beer, they could potentially be wasted after doing a number of takes. When they're filming a show, it's a job and I doubt they would allow them to drink.

Now, what happened after filming? Who knows?;)
