Filming Begins on A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas

Next Christmas, the traditional fruitcakes and cookies won't be all that's baked.
According to Harold & Kumar co-creator Jon Hurwitz, the third movie about the stoner pals played by John Cho and Kal Penn has begun filming, called A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas.
Hurwitz announced the start of production today on his Twitter feed, with a terse tweet: "Harold & Kumar 3 has officially started shooting. That is all."
According to ComingSoon.net, the shoot is taking place "somewhere in Michigan."
The plot has remained a secret, though Neil Patrick Harris (last seen after the end credits of Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay recuperating from a seemingly fatal shooting) is expected to return, as are Harold and Kumar's love interests Maria (Paula Garcés) and Vanessa (Danneel Harris).
Hurwitz and his writing/directing partner Hayden Schlossberg aren't directing this installment because they're too busy rebooting the American Pie franchise.
Instead, the director is MTV-trained. According to the Hollywood Reporter's Risky Business blog, Hurwitz and Schlossberg plan to co-direct American Pie 4 (all those straight-to-video sequels since the third big-screen American Pie movie in 2003 apparently don't count) from their own script, but there's no word on when they'll begin shooting, especially since they have yet to sign all the principal cast from the first three movies.
When the Harold & Kumar threequel was first announced last spring, it had a targeted release date of November 5, 2010. That seemed unusually optimistic, especially since Penn had recently dropped out of acting to take a PR job at the Obama White House.
After a year as the president's associate director of public engagement, Penn quit civil service in April to return to work as Kumar, but the release date has been pushed back to the 2011 holiday season, according to Entertainment Weekly's Hollywood Insider blog.
There's also talk of the movie being shot in 3-D. Trippy!
