New MTV Show Searches for a 'TJ' or 'Twitter Jockey'
by Gabrielle Dunn
posted Jun 14th 2010
The era of the MTV VJ is coming to an end.
The network is now looking for a TJ or "Twitter Jockey," a social media maven who will engage with the MTV audience and serve as a liaison between viewers and network executives.
Eighteen potential tweeters have been picked out by the network and its audience will select two more.
Over the course of the summer, the 20 hopefuls will compete in a series of online challenges that show off their unique personalities and how they would interact with MTV's Twitter followers.
On Aug. 8, five final candidates will compete for the position on a live show where fans will ultimately pick the one who gets the job.
While the new Twitter Jockey won't be on TV all the time the way VJs were, they will report on MTV events, such as the Video Music Awards in September, and appear on-air periodically.
Viewers can nominate themselves or their favorite Facebook friends for the position online starting today - http://tj.mtv.com/open-nomination/.
The MTV TJ will be based in New York and earn a six-figure salary.
