Larry King Out, Piers Morgan In at CNN?

For more than 20 years, Larry King has been a familiar image on CNN.

His slouch, the suspenders, his distinct and oft-parodied cadence, all part of what made the man an icon on CNN's longest running show, "Larry King Live".

But that might come to an end soon.

Variety is reporting that Piers Morgan, a judge on "America's Got Talent", is a candidate to replace King, whose ratings have been slipping drastically in recent years.

Variety mentions reports from both the New York Post and the U.K's Telegraph, which has the rumored four-year deal listed at $8 million. However, according to Variety, other British reports claim it could actually be worth around $14 million.

How U.S. audiences would react to Morgan on CNN will be interesting to watch. Variety cites a drop of as much as 43 percent in King's ratings.

But what happens when he's officially replaced will be another matter.

Larry King is NOT at the top of his game anymore. At times,he 1)Acts like he's bored with the whole thing and 2)He acts like an accusitory, prosecuting attorney.I'm glad a few years ago ,Dick Clark(before his stroke)was a guest and put King in his place. In other words,he (Larry King)should call it quits.

CNN needs to fast track the replacement search. Larry seems significantly off his game; his speech pattern seems a bit impaired (has he had a small stroke). I'm thinking CNN may go with Joy Behr in the seat unless a longer term solution emerges (Joy at 67 is not the ideal choice).

Did anyone see him on The Today Show? He practically seduced Hoda. He would probably do that with all the female guests if he hosted...

Piers Morgan to Replace Larry King on CNN
Sept 8, 2010

Piers Morgan will take over for Larry King beginning in January, CNN announced Wednesday.

Morgan will host a new interview show weekdays at 9/8c for the network and write a weekly column for CNN.com. After negotiations between NBC and CNN, he'll also retain his seat on the judges' panel of "America's Got Talent" and is expected to keep hosting Britain's "Piers Morgan's Life Stories".

"Morgan is able to look at all aspects of the news with style and humor with an occasional good laugh in the process," CNN president Jonathan Klein said in a statement.

King announced in June that he'd be stepping down from his 25-year-old program "Larry King Live". Klein said that King's last day on the show will be Dec. 16. He will continue to host occasional specials for the network.

CNN announced earlier in the year that "John King, USA" would replace "Lou Dobbs Tonight" at 7/6c and Eliot Spitzer's debate show "Parker Spitzer" will replace Campbell Brown at 8/7c.
