did adding harry shearer to the cast make save the season from becoming unwatchable i knoow he was no belushi or aykroyd but even though he has a rep for being impossable to deal with he is also imho one of the best cast members that has ever been on the show and he brought some excitement and creativity to season 5 when they really needed it . bill murray and to some extent gilda radner were at times phoning it in that year garrett morris and lariane newman were dealing with lots of issues so at least harry was there to pick up the slack so even though lorne michaels regretted hiring him i think he did the right thing anyone here agree or disagree?

I thought the fifth season wasn't bad but the start of a decline when John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd left, followed by the rest of the original cast at the season's end.
