View Full Version : Mr. T Is Not a Fan of the New 'A-Team'

The most famous star of the original "The A-Team" TV series is speaking out against the new movie remake. Mr. T, who played B.A. Baracus on the original series, says he was offered a cameo in the new film. However, he turned it down because he says he "knew what was coming" -- a level of violence and sex unacceptable to the actor and, he says, untrue to the original vision of the show.
Mr. T, whose real name is Laurence Tureaud, was in attendance at the movie's Los Angeles premiere, where he admitted his fears were confirmed. "It was too graphic for me," he said. "People die in the film and there's plenty of sex, but when we did it no one got hurt and it was all played for fun and family entertainment. These seem to be elements nobody is interested in any more."
The original "A-Team" was about a group of Vietnam vets who escaped jail after being imprisoned for a crime they didn't commit. They then joined together to fight for justice. While there was violence on the show, it was famously of the cartoonish variety, and rarely was anyone seriously hurt. The new "A Team," in theaters June 11, is made up of Iraq war veterans just returned from the battlefield, and includes a sexy new character played by Jessica Biel.
Mr. T isn't the only former "A-Team" star who has some complaints about the new film. Dirk Benedict, who played "Faceman" in the original series (played in the remake by Bradley Cooper) is less concerned about sex and violence and more offended by his lack of screen time in his cameo: "I'm on for a mere three seconds and I find that kind of insulting."
The new B.A. Baracus, played by Ultimate Fighter Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, would probably disagree with Mr. T's opinion. Last week, he questioned the movie's impact on his own tough image, saying that the entire profession of acting "makes you soft."
The new movie's biggest star, Bradley Cooper, has only joking complaints about the film so far, namely that his shirtless scenes make him look "like a chimpanzee."
Retro4Life 06-07-2010, 11:33 PM I never really followed the original so I doubt I'll check this one out either. I have to say that it never made much sense to me in the few times I caught the show (or parts of it) that a show with such a premise almost NEVER saw anyone seriously hurt. So the increased violence kind of makes sense, I guess.
Regardless it does seem like every movie remake of a TV show ups the 'sex and violence and profanity' ante, and I can see how that wouldn't sit too well with the stars of the originals, who probably feel like the sensibility that made the shows popular in the first place is being rudely tossed aside.
It also sounds like the stars of the remake are being kind of disrespectful of the film too. Hey, if the old stars don't like it and the NEW stars don't like it, maybe that should tell us something...??
Mr. Television 06-07-2010, 11:43 PM I was afraid of this. The A-Team is one of my favorite shows. It was a fun show and you could see that the stars had a ball playing in it. Even though the show was violent, it appealed to a family audience. I have a feeling this one is going to be like that Dukes of Hazzard remake. They made everybody sleazy in that one.

Yes, and John Schneider (Bo) and Ben Jones (Cooter) both publicly slammed the Dukes movie, just like Mr. T has done with the A-Team movie. Hollywood never, ever learns. ohno:

Hey if Hollywood ever learned something just think of the thousands of remakes and millions of sequels we'd miss out on.

Marvo301 06-08-2010, 03:09 AM The cast of Star Trek as the A-Team. I love it! Or should I say "I love it when a plan comes together!"

JamesG 06-13-2010, 02:28 PM Saw this last night.
Don't know what Mr. T is talking about with the "plenty of sex and violence" because there weren't any sex scenes (there were innuendos) and the violence level was nothing extraordinary.
I've seen much more violence in films compared to what The A-Team had.

How was the film though? Was it any good. How did it compare to the tv show?

I just found this now...
Apparently, Mr. T was misquoted about hating The A-Team, which makes sense after what he supposedly said:
Mr. T denies saying A-Team movie is 'too graphic'

Earlier this week, a WENN article quoting Mr. T as saying that he’d seen the new A-Team movie and found it to be “too graphic” and different in spirit from the TV series was picked up by a number of Internet outlets, including this one.
Contacted by EW, a lawyer for the actor says, “Mr. T has not seen the film and he did not make the comments attributed to him in several Internet articles…. Mr. T appreciates your request for an interview, but at this time, particularly because he has not seen the film, he is not giving interviews on it.”

Back to the film, I found it enjoyable but nothing really memorable. Just a typical popcorn, actioner.
Can't really compare it to the show since I haven't seen enough of it to make a valid comparison.
Sterling Holobyte 06-25-2010, 07:08 PM I love the Star Trek one!!
As for the movie, I haven't seen it yet, but from what I have seen from the trailers, it at least looks like it is trying to resemble the original, which I why I want to see it.
isiahthomas 01-04-2015, 07:18 PM Who cares what Mr T thought about the movie and I didn't know Dirk Benedict who played Face on the tv show was in the movie for a quick few seconds. I didn't even see him. I loved the movie and I got it on dvd. I like Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Quinton Jackson, Jessica Biel.
Race's Girl 09-20-2015, 08:16 AM Give me a break, the movie was good
isiahthomas 09-24-2015, 04:24 PM I agree.
