What are these new sets that are on eBay & other sites? They're actually labeled "Season 1, 2, or 3" respectively but they still have specific themes. Anyone with info on these sets?

If they really are labeled by season, they are probably bootlegs. To this day, the only official DVD releases of UM are theme sets and "best of" packages. Think twice before you buy these "season" sets.

Think twice and then buy them anyway, right?

;)

Just kidding, that's illegal.

Look at these things - I also have a reason to be suspicious but SOMEONE has to know what these are. Even has th FIRST LOOK logo on the spine. Why would a bootlegger go this far for something as "small" as unsolved mysteries?

I don't know what those are but those definitely aren't from First Look. You can find some really nice bootleg copies of stuff out there. These definitely aren't official.

Even if they are bootlegs, if someone actually compiled all the episodes together into season sets, that would be a rather impressive feat considering the number of episodes.

My gut feeling is that these are bootlegs and some clueless bootlegger has ripped the First Look DVDs of the various categories "Ghosts", "UFOs" etc. and erroneously called them "seasons".

Isn't it just a tad suspicious that there is no mention of this on First Look's site?

Yeah of course - I'm not buying these but I admit I didget excited at first. First Look should take a cue from these bootlegs. We want every episode!!

These sets are as real as Pamela Anderson's chest.

From the back of season one...

"...for the Ultimale Colector!"

I was actually in contact with First Look about six or seven months ago. There was an Unsolved Mysteries 12 disc set (92 episodes) showing up on Amazon, from them. It was supposed to be released last OCT. However, when I asked, they said that they'd decided not to pursue it, because there "wasn't enough interest." I emailed back to ask if there was any chance of them releasing anything else, and got no response.

Now, now...just because there's a spelling error doesn't necessarily mean it's not legit. Seriously, we live in a time where text speak and tYpINg LiKe DiS are perfectly acceptable.

Do they think there is interest in half of these shows they make season sets for?? Come on now. Could they AT LEAST get another syndication deal? At least an hour a day. Even with DVR if they were on at 4am I'd be extremely happy.

Here's a scenario...

Maybe First Look did make some DVDs. We know they were planning on doing so, but decided not to because there "wasn't enough interest". Whose to say they didn't churn out a few of these DVDs before calling it quits. Maybe the small stock was sold to wholesalers as opposed brick and mortar stores.

Just speculation of course.

Hahahah....when I read "Here's a scenario..." I imagined it in Robert Stack's voice, like the "Scenario number one: He's hanging by his neck in his f%#@ing closet" from Baseketball. :D

But that's a very logical possibility.

I believe she told me it was actually the stores they pitched the idea to weren't thrilled on it. But do NOT even get me started. I mean, "American Idol" DVDs?! Seriously?!

LOL

When I typed it, I think I had Robert Culp (from the Greatest American Hero) in the back of my mind as a similar line was some times used on the show...but BASEketball works too :)

My guess is these are legit... in a way. Often when releasing shows on home video there are different license issues here in the states than over seas. As an example, the original series of Battlestar Galactica was released on dvd in the UK years before it could legally be released here. Some of that series had been released on VHS, but not the enitre series and i want to say it was like 5 years before the show was released here in the states. ALF has had some similar problems as far as syndicated shows released in the US but full versions released over seas (these are just two I am familiar with).

My guess with these is that it is something similar or that it is simply the same episodes that were released in the US just packaged differently. Perhaps they are calling each box a season for some reason.

Good point.

(Robert Stack voice) Are these DVDs for real? Perhaps we'll never know. But someone, somewhere might know the answer. Perhaps...it's you. :D

By the labels on them, they could be Japanese DVDs or bootlegs. If you're familiar with bootleg, you may know that bootleggers have terrible spelling
(i.e. "Batman is hero. His parents were bruttaly killed when he was child. He beats bad guy!"), which may explain the "Ultimate Colecter" label on it.

In conclusion, I believe these are well made Japanese bootlegs of the First Look DVDs.
