Grady that aired on Thursday Nights in 1976 only managed to grab 13 million viewers and overall ranked as the 88th best show.

Sanford Arms only gain 13 million viewers in 1977 and overall was the 100th best show

Grady was airing at the same time as........the Waltons which was a Top 10 show at the time.

Sanford Arms was airing the same time as Donny and Marie and Wonder Woman and Donny and Marie was the Popular at the time.

the sad thing is NBC made no effort to move Sanford Arms to another Time slot.

I think they were poorly constructed sitcoms. I mean Julio should've been running the Sanford Arms & Grady was only good in small doses.

Sanford was not inaccurately presented to the viewing public in 1977. In Tv Guide Fall preview, you see Aunt Esther in the NBC Promo with the cast like she is the main character but she is not really seen in any of the eps and has a very minor role as the land lady. So viewers probably wasn't expecting tosee an whole new familyliving in the Sanford home-lol

I agree, although I will say that 13 million viewers in this day and age is not too shabby. lol

I see your point. Viewers didn't like seeing a new family living in the Bunkers old house either.

I wonder if the 1994 sitcom and 1997 Sanford Arms is the only two times in TV history were you see a NEW sitcom family living in a OLD SITCOM FAMILY home

Yeah that's true. As much as I like Grady out of all of Fred's cronies,I don't think he could carry a whole show. Beside the few eps he did when Redd bounced.

Wasn't Hangin' With Mr. Cooper in the old Growing Pains house for a while?

I didn't care much for them plus Aunt Esther wasn't the main character in Sanford Arms. I don't mind them now for nostalgia sake.

I remember watching Sanford Arms back then. I'm surprised that it aired opposite Wonder Woman because I was a fan of that too, so maybe I caught SA when the WW ep was a repeat.

The Grady spinoff I don't remember at all, though I knew the character very well from Sanford & Son. Most likely I was watching The Waltons when it aired.

The Grady sitcom was supposed to air after Sanford and Son

Where it would have done better in the ratings... Is Grady worth checking out?

Yes, it's a lot better than the shows below

You have to wonder if Laverne & Shirley would have been such a big hit and endured if it didn't have the timeslot following Happy Days. To this day, every time I watch a Happy Days ep, I'm almost expecting L & S to follow!

So I agree with comments as to a show like Grady needing to've had that kind of built-in audience.

I watched Sanford & Son all the way to the end in its first airings -- in fact I want to see the Sanford episodes again where Cal replaces Lamont in the Sanford home. That guy was a dead-ringer for a neighbor I had back then!

I'm kind of in the same boat you are regarding the comment. I'm kinda used to Sanford.
