MARYSVILLE, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio dairy farm has asked veterinarians to independently review an animal rights group's video of cows being punched, kicked and poked with pitchforks.

Conklin Dairy Farms Inc. said in a statement Thursday that the undercover video shot by Mercy For Animals is missing context of how the farm is operated responsibly. The farm in Plain City in central Ohio again condemned the abuse seen in the footage.

The farm did not immediately respond to a message for further comment.

A Conklin farm worker charged with 12 counts of cruelty to animals remained jailed on Thursday after a judge set bond at $100,000.

The farm says it fired 25-year-old Billy Joe Gregg Jr. on Wednesday, the day of his arrest. He returns to court next month to enter a plea.

I don't blame you. Cruelty to animals is absolutely sickening. Especially when it's domesticated animals who have learned to trust those who are taking care of them. And then to see that trust broken is heartbreaking. :( :mad:

I can't watch the video. It just makes me furious. The place needs to be shut down for good.

It is horrible the way most cows, pigs chickens lambs etc. are treated when they are being bred for slaughter. And then this wanton abuse on top is sickening - I stopped eating red meat (cows, pigs, sheep, buffalo etc.) l ast Sept. and although have been tempted have stayed with it. I still eat chicken, turkey and fish but hope to give up chicken and turkey one day (sadly, I'm such an inveterate carnivore I can't give fowl up yet - although I know they're abused too.) I still get cravings for red meat occasionally but I'm able to ride them out. And to be fair, I'm not doing this solely for ethical reasons but for health reasons as well.

I have to admit, I am a carnivore - but I can only hope that the meat of the animals I eat was taken humanely. Now this mess at the dairy farm just fills me with questions.
