View Full Version : Season 4 on DVD Sept. 14, 2010 Edster2973 05-25-2010, 05:14 PM Here is the news from tvshowsondvd.com along with DVD cover art. Yeah! http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Designing-Women-Season-4/13806 Ed Kasey 05-25-2010, 09:03 PM Great news! This is the most popular season among fans and it does have some great episodes in it. I still am waiting for Seasons 5, 6 and 7 though. I am probably one of the few who liked those best. It's when I got into the series beginning in the fall of 1990 because it was on right before the new Sharon Gless series "The Trials of Rosie O'Neill". If it hadn't been for that show, I may never have known the pleasure and excellence of DW. Some of the scripts in the later years weren't the greatest, but when the writers and cast DID get it right, it was amazing during that era: Pearls of Wisdom, Last Tango in Atlanta, All About Odes to Atlanta, The Woman Who Came to Sugarbakers, The Lying Game, etc. If anyone can sit through these with a straight face they probably don't have a funny bone in their body. Anyway, great job so far Shout!. Please keep them coming! p.s. my only beef is that the cast images on the box are from Season 2, not 4. likewow 05-26-2010, 04:26 PM Super fantastic news! I love this season, and I hope they show the original hour long version "The First Day of The Last Decade of the Entire Twentieth Century." Bless you Shout Factory! McGillicuddy 05-26-2010, 09:35 PM Is this the season they perform Ain't No Mountain High Enough? That's absolutely classic! Kristen 05-26-2010, 10:25 PM Yes! That's one of my favorite episodes, "The Rowdy Girls." If that song isn't included on this set, I'm NOT going to be happy! catlover79 05-26-2010, 10:33 PM  :D Hopefully they will be able to do some kind of tribute to Dixie in this set as well. Jude The Obscure 05-26-2010, 10:43 PM I think eventually I will get seasons 1-5. zypherix 05-27-2010, 05:56 AM They better finish the series :) season 6 and 7 have some great eps too, like in "A toe in the water" when they claim Julia's boyfriend is gay.. and she goes over to his house and looks through his CD collection - Judy Garland, Lena Horne, Madonna... xD McGillicuddy 05-27-2010, 04:37 PM They better finish the series :) season 6 and 7 have some great eps too, like in "A toe in the water" when they claim Julia's boyfriend is gay.. and she goes over to his house and looks through his CD collection - Judy Garland, Lena Horne, Madonna... xD If it were in the hands of another studio, I'd be concerned, but I think Shout! will put out the complete series. James28 05-27-2010, 04:49 PM I forgot to mention this at my last message, but if I buy any future Designing Women-related DVD releases, I'm going to bury it in my time capsule. OOliver 06-03-2010, 03:35 PM Some of the scripts in the later years weren't the greatest, but when the writers and cast DID get it right, it was amazing during that era: This is so TRUE! When the writing and the acting all came together, it was nearly a masterpiece. When they were off on either, it just didn't "cut it". Thankfully, the masterpieces clearly outnumber the others. zypherix 09-17-2010, 03:47 PM A few episodes are in the 22:40 range, but they could have originally run short I guess. The rest seem fine :) BeatleMoe 09-27-2010, 04:57 PM A few episodes are in the 22:40 range, but they could have originally run short I guess. The rest seem fine :) They did run short. I have a lot of those episodes from CBS, and some did indeed run under the 23 minute mark. The Prince song that was replaced on the Season 3 episode Come on and Marry Me Bill was left intact on the Season 4 episode "Tornado Watch." I don't see any music replacement on this set either. BeatleMoe 09-27-2010, 04:58 PM Super fantastic news! I love this season, and I hope they show the original hour long version "The First Day of The Last Decade of the Entire Twentieth Century." Bless you Shout Factory! That episode is presented in it's original hour version running at 47:02. "Their Finest Hour" is also on here running at 47:54. likewow 10-11-2010, 08:25 PM Seeing "Their Finest Hour" on the DVD was a nice surprise, and with the Ray Charles version of the theme! Shout must have made some money on the previous releases, because they paid for all the music rights for this season. They even have the Motown song 'I Second That Emotion' whereas they didn't include 'Isn't She Lovely' on season one. They even have the Motown song 'I Second That Emotion' whereas they didn't include 'Isn't She Lovely' on season one. I'm glad to know about the Ray Charles version. I was concerned the 6th season opening with Ray Charles and the new "designing women" would not be included. likewow 10-12-2010, 04:50 PM I'm glad to have passed on the information. But to clarify, the Ray Charles version of 'Georgia on My Mind' used on "Their Finest Hour" is not the same as the season six opening credits. Mr. Charles rerecorded the song for that. |
