OTTAWA, Ohio (AP) — The wife of a northern Ohio sheriff has been sentenced to three years in prison after she pleaded guilty to stealing from the Ohio Farmers Union while she worked for the nonprofit organization.

A judge in Putnam County also ordered Kathy Beutler (BOYT'-luhr) on Tuesday to pay about $80,000 to her former employer in Ottawa.

She earlier had pleaded guilty to aggravated theft after being accused of stealing $260,000.

Her husband, Putnam County Sheriff James Beutler, has not been accused of any wrongdoing.

Kathy Beutler has said that she took the money to pay for mounting credit card debts without the knowledge of her husband.

Did she really think she would get away stealing that much cash?

She should have just asked the Federal Government for a bailout!! No matter how much personal debt you accumulate it doesn't justify stealing from your employer. and when your employer is a non profit it just makes you look even worse. I'm glad she got some jail time. I hope it does her some good!

She should do community service as well. Sorry that her husband got mixed up in this mess.

OH Nuts!

She does need to do jail time. Also - pay as much back as they can get. Clearly this is a big crime, BUT anyone who would think they could get away with something this big is not in their right mind. Her sentence should involve a lot of community service - and NOT in the bookkeeping dept! lol
