Hey y'all, I was curious about something this afternoon....what ever happened to the tip line? does it still work? I haven't had time to give it a call...what happens when you do? do you actually talk to someone or do you just get a machine? I have always been curious as to what happens when you call the telecenter (I remember the number from when I was a kid, and I was always too chicken to call it because I thought that Robert Stack would pick up and scold me for not having any information about a case :lol: )

has anyone tried to call it? I would love your thoughts.

The toll free 800 number tip line has been closed. Although I have not called the number myself, I have read on here that the phone number now belongs to a roofing company.

I did call it, once, several years ago. The series was off the air at the time, but reruns were still being shown on Lifetime. If I remember correctly, there was a recorded message indicating that they were no longer producing new episodes, but that you could leave a message with your information, or send them a letter via snail mail.

I never did call when UM was actually on the air.

Yeah, even after Stack died it's almost like there was a teeny vestige of the show's history left with the Lifetime reruns (up till early '06 if I recall). It really confirms in our heads that the UM days are totally over. :(

Even though it's less and less likely that people will bring new information to light in cases that are on average 15-25 years ago (aside from the missing person themself surfacing, or bones and forensic science finally identifying a body), the chance still does exist. Like the online viewings. And if someone DOES have a tip, they never should've closed the tip line.

And LMAO at what the OP said. ;) I could almost see Stack saying that, especially in the days before they regularly showed the phone center with Keely c. 1994.
