May 20th, 1982 - The final episode of "Barney Miller" aired

"Landmark"

Wojo's discovery of an ancient weapon results in a buyer expressing interest in the precinct building. The interested buyer purchases the precinct building. Dietrich arrests the head of a crime school. Luger tries to bail out on his mail-order bride. Everyone drops by to pay their last respects as the detectives prepare for new assignments. Harris contemplates resignation when he's assigned to Flushing Meadows. Barney recalls departed friends before he turns out the lights for the final time.

There's never been a show quite like Barney Miller - they just don't make them like that anymore. :(

Yeah we'll never see one like this again. I can watch this show again and again and still come away laughing; and oddly, feeling like I'm watching something very "real".

I remember watching the finale. It was conclusive and appropriately low key. Didn't get a lot of hoopla but it made its impact. Just like the show itself. :)

I have to admit once Jack Soo and Abe Vigada were gone, the show was over for me.

It wasn't the same, but the show was still very watchable with the team of Linden/Gail/Glass/Landesberg/Carey, with the occasional appearance of James Gregory (Luger). Danny Arnold and co. were very smart, however, to go out on top - if not ratings-wise, then artistically.
