CBS cancels "Accidentally on Purpose"
May 18, 2010

Monday night comedy block "Accidentally on Purpose" has been canceled.

"Accidentally" may end up with the highest average rating among any canceled show this season. As part of CBS' comedy block, the show posted a number that would have been perfectly acceptable in most time periods.

But once CBS sample the show on less protected Wednesday nights, its ratings fell sharply, showing the network its Monday audience was mainly built on momentum.

...inbetween "HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER" and "TWO AND A HALF MEN" on Mondays, and it would have as many viewers as both shows. However, the same fate would have happened to "RULES OF ENGAGEMENT", if it had followed "THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE" as well. That's why CBS is smart enough to schedule it as a "stop gap" towards the end of the season, instead of a full 22 episode order at the start.

Well, at least there was some kind of "closure" in the final episode...which makes it perfect for the DVD release. "Fan fictionists" will have to imagine a second season for themselves....
