I found this great forum a couple of weeks ago, and I feel like I've waded through about 90% of the threads that have been posted in the last six months - unbelievably interesting stuff you guys, and some fascinating perspectives on some of the cases that you all have provided.

The allure of the original episodes, for most of us, seems to be the incredible creepiness provided by Stack, the music, the reenactments, etc. For me, that creepiness-factor got multiplied by 100 in the segments where actual footage - typically audio - was used.

Examples that I can remember are:

Kansas City Firefighters ("Pumper 41, Pumper 30, answer")
Jamie Santos ("Stonehenge? Stonehedge. Hedge, like a bush")
California Arsonist ("Look at it Omar.. I said I'll do it! I said I'll do it!")

Original Nightstalker / East Side Rapist threatening call to victim.

I cannot recall whether the UM segment played it, but the E! THS story on this case did. One of the creepiest audio recordings ever, especially since he was never caught. Also, he doesn't appear to be disguising his voice, except for speaking at a higher pitch. That's what's frustrating about that case. He committed scores of rapes and murders, sometimes in broad daylight, and we have a recording of his voice, yet he was never caught.

In the Bermuda Triangle episode a Radio Station had a person who called in to explain what was going on in the Bermuda Triangle and this guy was just super freaky and what he was talking about was just crazy

That call stuck with me forever

I hope other members have watched this ISO episode and know what im talking about

Just odd and I'm just wondering if this call could really help crack the case... listen to it - it's a really cryptic message

The anonymous caller who said he could identify Charlie Anderson's killer. Sadly, he was never heard from again.

I can’t even watch the Antenette Cayadito segment because it breaks my heart hearing that poor frightened girl scream in the 911 call.

From your “Mt. Rushmore”, the Frederick valentich segment is creeps me out because of the re-enactment of his conversation with the control tower. Whatever it was he saw, he got to describe it well enough that it was clear he had no idea what it was and he was most definitely frightened. Then when Stack mentions the mysterious “clicks” that go on for several seconds afterwards…the mind boggles at what those could be.

1. Abominable Snowman: When Don Whillans sees what he thinks is a rock then it jumps up and starts running down the Mountain while ISOs best scary music blairs at full blast

2. Amityville Horror: The doll with the red eyes :eek:

3. Jack the Ripper: The first scene when he grabs his first woman on the dark foggy streets of London :eek:

4. Dreams and Nightmares: The intruder with the pantyhose on his head

2. Dreams and Nightmares - the guy in the old persons mask in the beginning. Great nightmare fuel.

3. Jonestown Massacre - the whole segment were they play the actual tape of the beginning of the massacre. Awful stuff.

4. Bishop Pike-the whole scene where Pike's son commits suicide. Nimoy's narration and the music make that an unnerving scene.

5. Mummy's curse- the whole beginning intro where they show you the actual mummy's face still scares the crap out of me.

6. Haunted Houses- two things, that face during the woman;s nightmare and the part where they show actual evidence of the ghost.

7. Jack the Rippe - the end of the segment..where Nimoy talks about Ripper's legacy and you just see the Ripper in shadow. That and when they show the ripper suspects faces...especially Jon Pizers ugly mug!!!

8. Ultimate Disaster- the whole concept of the segment gives me willies. Especially when the talk about Tiamac.

9. UFO Captives- The shadowed figure!!

Oh my God, totally. It's been about 20 years since I saw the one with dreams and stuff, and I can STILL remember that mask.

I'm sure they thought of it, but where would they start looking? They didn't get to trace the cell phone location, and Taylor didn't tell them where he was. Just one of those cases where it takes a happenstance find by a hiker. I hope someday more of our favorite cases are solved like that.


Oh yeah, just watched another one today with a phone call in it...Kathy Hobbs.

The Rebbeca Young one was probably the one I remember the most.

It wasn't a 911 call but when they played the audio of the police officer giving Lisa Kimmel a ticket just hours before she was abducted was very very chilling.

The whole Bishop Pike episode was very unnerving to me

Also the drawings of UFOs and Aliens made by the people who claimed to have been abducted in UFO Captives always scared the piss out of me (of course the music is the most intense when these drawings are shown :eek: )

The Tracy Kirkpatrick, Las Cruces bowling alley massacre, and KROQ radio confession segments had "actual" audio recordings as well.

Do answering machine messages count? If so you can add Paul Pollis and Jeanne Tovrea to the mix.

BTW, the ISO moments that freaked me out the most were definitely the end of the Lee Harvey Oswald episode with the camera walk-up and fix on his grave (with that creepy recording of police radios and sirens), as well as the entire Vietnam MIAs episode. The prospect of being left behind in a foreign country, living in a camp and/or living off the land in a place already hostile to you is definitely frightening, but for some reason the entire thing just creeped me out completely.

I just want to say that the guy calling up about the Bermuda Triangle in In Search of is a whole lot scarier than Bishop Pike son's suicide and the old man mask in the Nightmares one. That old guy just looked like he was going to dance in Patzcuaro Michoacan.


I also forget one of the freakiest audio in UM: the tape of the sounds in the Queen Mary ship that weren't supposed to be there. That stuff is always scary (reminds me of some show about ghosts where they put some tape from a convent in Spain where girls had been abused and it was a lot of whippings and calling of the voice of the investigators, that was super scary).

It's not surprising that Unsolved Mysteries never aired the Bill & Dot Wacker 911 calls. The show must have known that both Bill & Dot were phonies, but they thought the story would be a ratings bonanza. Anyway, during the calls, you could hear Bill laughing in the background. This was probably after Dot hit herself over the head with a tire iron. She was so anrgy that NBC, CBS, and ABC didn't send crews to her house to cover the entire thing.... going so far as phoning her agent to be there in case one of the networks was thinking of reviving Mama's Family.
