May 20, 2010 (New York, New York) -- The CW Network unveiled the schedule for its 2010-2011 season today at a p resentation for advertisers, affiliates and national media in the Theater at Madison Square Garden, where singer Katy Perry rocked the house to o p en the show. The announcement was made by Dawn Ostroff, President of Entertainment, The CW.
“After just four short years as a network, The CW will p remiere our strongest schedule ever this fall, with a combination of hit shows and exciting new series giving us all-original p rogramming five nights a week for the first time,” said Ostroff. “We’ve been growing this network one hit at a time and we’re p oised for a great 2010-11 season. This year ‘The Vam p ire Diaries’ was a smash out of the box for us, and another freshman show, ‘Life Unex p ected,’ also o p ened strong and began building an intense, loyal following. On the heels of breaking ‘Gossi p Girl’ and ‘90210’ the last two seasons and the enduring p o p ularity of ‘Smallville,’ ‘Su p ernatural,’ ‘One Tree Hill’ and ‘America’s Next To p Model,’ we had more strong p rogram develo p ment and believe we have the goods once again with ‘Nikita’ and ‘Hellcats,’ two shows that are fun, fast and loud, and will enable us to make noise in the market p lace this fall. These hot new dramas will extend The CW brand and our hold on the coveted young female demogra p hic, with international action-film star Jackie-Chan p rotégé Maggie Q starring as ‘Nikita,’ an em p owered woman fighting for justice, and Ashley Tisdale of ‘High School Musical’ and Aly Michalka of ‘Bandslam’ in ‘Hellcats,’ a lively new series about a p re-law student whose life turns u p side down when she joins the cheerleading team at a major Southern university.
“Additionally, we’re excited about two new reality series coming to The CW. First u p in summer 2010 will be original p rogramming from ‘Plain Jane,’ with each week featuring a full-blown makeover for a young woman including a style transformation, new wardrobe and confidence-building assistance from the show’s host, British fashion ex p ert, Louise Roe. In addition to this p owerful fall schedule, you can ex p ect more news on original p rogramming for next season down the line as we continue to grow our business. We’re also as committed as ever to utilizing online, social media and new technologies to attract ‘Generation Digital,’ the p assionate and highly engaged young viewers who get their CW fix whenever and wherever they want it.”
On Monday, the Left Coast/Right Coast p airing of 90120 and GOSSIP GIRL will cover a lot of ground with viewers, p roviding cutting-edge drama, the latest in high fashion and backstabbing betrayal with the beautiful beach-set of 90210 from 8:00-9:00 p .m. and the p owerful and p rivileged U p p er East-siders of GOSSIP GIRL from 9:00-10:00 p .m. Des p ite tough com p etition last season, 90210 became the most DVR’d show on television, with Live-Plus-7-Day ratings that more than double its women 18-34 audience. Together, 90210 and GOSSIP GIRL have the highest concentration of women 18-34 on network television, and GOSSIP GIRL continues to be one of the most buzzed-about shows on the p lanet. Next season’s p remiere will take Serena (Blake Lively), Blair (Leighton Meester) and Chuck (Ed Westwick) to the City of Lights – Paris , France .
On Tuesday, ONE TREE HILL, the show loyal viewers demanded back, finds a new home in the 8:00-9:00 p .m. hour, followed by the second season of LIFE UNEXPECTED, last season’s critically acclaimed show about a young girl who reunites with her birth p arents after growing u p in foster care. LIFE UNEXPECTED has a ra p idly growing audience, and the two series are already a tried-and-true teaming, since LIFE UNEXPECTED, p remiered at midseason behind ONE TREE HILL with strong audience retention.
On Wednesday, AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL will be back in its successful 8:00-9:00 p .m. timeslot. During its recently com p leted 14th cycle, TOP MODEL added a new judge, fashion editor André Leon Talley, and the show was number one in its time p eriod with women 18-34 and adults 18-34. Last week’s cycle 14 finale e p isode won the 8:00 p .m. hour in women 18-34, adults 18-34, females 12-34 and female teens.
The models give way to cheerleaders when the new drama HELLCATS p remieres in the 9:00-10:00 p .m. hour. HELLCATS is a p um p ed-u p drama about a young p re-law student (Aly Michalka, “Bandslam”) whose world is turned u p side-down when she loses her scholarshi p and has to join the college’s com p etitive cheerleading squad. This fun, energetic series is a behind-the-scenes look at the drama, p olitics and p ressure surrounding the football p rogram at a Southern university. Ashley Tisdale (“High School Musical”) also stars as a young woman who is totally committed to the cheerleading squad to realize her dreams.
The CW broke a major hit on Thursday nights last fall with THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, now the network’s to p -rated show. The vam p ires, witches and mere mortals of Mystic Falls will remain in the 8:00-9:00 p .m. timeslot, p roviding the p erfect jum p ing-off p oint for the non-sto p action and international intrigue of the drama NIKITA from 9:00-10:00 p .m.
NIKITA stars international action-film star and martial arts ex p ert Maggie Q (“Mission Im p ossible III ”) in the title role as a s p y and assassin for a to p secret U.S. government agency, who rebels against the system that created her and will sto p at nothing to bring their p owerful o p eration to an end. Shane West (“E.R.”) and Lyndsy Fonseca (“Kick Ass”) also star.
On Friday, two rock solid hits, SMALLVILLE and SUPERNATURAL, reunite for a great two-hour block. In its ex p losive tenth and final season, SMALLVILLE will remain in the 8:00-9:00 p .m. timeslot, where it gave the CW its best numbers ever in the time p eriod with scri p ted p rogramming last year. The series will bring Clark Kent ’s e p ic journey to a conclusion worthy of a su p erhero. In the 9:00-10:00 p .m. hour, the Winchester Brothers continue their heroic battle to ensure that good trium p hs over evil, no matter what the p ersonal cost may be to the brothers themselves. Last season, SUPERNATURAL’s ratings were u p year-to-year with women 18-49.
Following is The CW’s 2010-2011 p rimetime schedule, a night-by-night breakdown and accom p anying details on all the p rograms.

SHEDDING FOR THE WEDDING (working title) is from Raquel Productions Inc. with executive p roducers Dave Broome (“The Biggest Loser”) and Rick Hurvitz (“Pim p My Ride”).
Du Mont 05-20-2010, 10:27 AM A good schedule, as best as can be expected and one that might even give The CW a bit of an A18-49 lift (on Tuesdays and Fridays, at least).
Finally, Miss Ostroff saw the wisdom of dropping her waste-of-time 'ANTM' encore, which only served to diminish the Wednesday night rating, this enshrined encore being a carryover over from her UPN days.
Although 'One Tree Hill' and 'Life Unexpected' both got only 13-episode orders, they will probably get back 9's if they do well on Tuesdays.
The slotting of 'Hellcats' out of 'ANTM' and 'Nikita' out of 'The Vampire Diairies' will ensure at least adequate sampling for both of these fresh skeins.
I do find it odd that The CW is not ordering any mid-season shows at this point. This might be an indication of a very tight budgetary leash, or indecision on which additional pilots to pick up. Of the remaining development candidates, the only worthy candidates are 'Nomads' (could fit as a replacement for 'Nikita' if needed) or 'Plymouth Rock' (could serve as a replacement for any of the Monday to Wednesday skeins). If Miss Ostroff has to reach back further into her previously pilotted pile, passed over projects worthy of re-activation include 'Host', the 'Veronica Mars: FBI Academy' time-leap and the 'Charmed Sons' spinoff.
Pavan 05-20-2010, 11:29 AM The CW has added a midseason series to their schedule next season: “Shedding For The Wedding” (working title, reality series) Premieres Midseason. See press release above for details.
comedyfreak 05-21-2010, 05:50 AM I'm just going to stick with Smallville since this is its last season I won't be watching CW next year.
Du Mont 05-28-2010, 11:44 AM As part of an effort to make their Saturday AM kidvid sked more anime-ish by re-programming it with a number of Japanese anime hit programs, The CW's CW4Kids block will be re-branded this fall to Toonzai:
http://toonbarn.com/2010/04/thecw4kids-to-become-toonzai-says-4kids-entertainment/
This re-branding will make it the third branding for the network since The CW began operations:
September 2006 - May 2008: KidsWB
May 2008 - September 2010: CW4Kids
September 2010 - onwards: Toonzai
The Toonzai sked has not been finalized, but is reported to include the carryover anime programs 'Yu-Gi-Oh!' and 'Sonic X', as well as the introduction of at least one new fall series, the anime skein 'Dragon Ball Z Kai'.
Also, today marks the series finale of 'The Tyra Banks Show' on The CW Daytime. For the summer, encores of 'The Tyra Banks Show' will be broadcast at both 3 pm and 4 pm across The CW network. The network has not yet announced their plans for what programs will take over the 3-5 pm Monday through Friday timeslot come this fall, but encore programming from the Warner library is expected (perhaps a return of 'E/R'?).
http://www.deadline.com/2010/05/full-series-rankings-for-the-2009-10-b roadcast-season/
The CW had the seven lowest-rated shows of the 2009-10 season, including dead-last "High Society," which ranked No. 124. And surprisingly, "Life Unexpected" had more total viewers, on average, than "Gossip Girl," "One Tree Hill" and "90210." Meanwhile, the highest-rated sitcom was "Two and a Half Men" at No. 11, followed closely by "The Big Bang Theory" at No. 12. The highest-rated new show of the season was "Undercover Boss," which came in at No. 6, followed by No. 19 "The Good Wife."

“18 TO LIFE ”
BRINGS SUMMER LOVING TO THE CW
Romantic Comedy to Air Tuesday Nights Beginning August 3
July 15, 2010 (Burbank, CA) -- Summer is about to get a lot hotter when The CW unleashes 18 TO LIFE , the hit Canadian comedy series about a modern-day Romeo and Juliet. The network will air all 12 half-hour episodes from the premiere season of 18 TO LIFE on Tuesday nights beginning August 3, with back-to-back episodes airing from 9:00-9:30 and 9:30-10:00 p.m. ET .
In the premiere episode of 18 TO LIFE, when Tom and Jessie – 18-year-old next-door neighbors who have grown up together – run off and get married, their warring families are forced to become one in this hilarious multi-generational half-hour about relationships, true love, and who takes out the garbage. The series explores intimate relationships in combustible combinations as husband-wife, mom-dad, and in-laws all struggle to influence the newlyweds and control the extended family’s destiny. Tom and Jessie move into his parents’ attic and their marriage becomes public property, creating an endless string of challenges for the couple. As this new love blooms audaciously amidst the two settled marriages, it stirs up new frictions and old passions in both sets of parents.
18 TO LIFE stars Stacey Farber (“Degrassi: The Next Generation”) and Michael Seater (“The Sin Bin,” “Life With Derek”) as the young lovers, along with Peter Keleghan (“Billable Hours,” “The Newsroom”), Al Goulem (“The Tournament,” “Stardom”), Ellen David (“Surviving My Mother,” “The Business”), and Angela Asher (“Degrassi: The Next Generation,” “Queer as Folk”) as the p arents, as well as Jesse Rath (“The Trotsky,” “Prom Wars”), and Tiio Horn (“Wild Hunt,” “The Trotsky”).
The show, which has just begun production on its second season in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, is a co-production between Galafilm Inc. and Sound Venture Inc. in association with CBC Television. The series airs in Canada on the CBC, and is distributed internationally by ITV Studios Global Entertainment.
The series is created, written, and executive p roduced by Gemini Award-winning writer Derek Schreyer (“Murdoch Mysteries,” “Cold Squad”), International Emmy Award-winning p roducer Karen Troubetzkoy (“15/Love,” “The Magician’s House”) and PrimeTime Emmy Award-winning Galafilm CEO Arnie Gelbart.
yankeesrj12 07-15-2010, 06:21 PM You think The CW would have scheduled their only two summer series together on the same night. Either way, both this and Plain Jain will bomb come the end of July and early August.

Dear me, what a sad little mid-season sked change it is for The CW. No need for a mid-season preview special with so little to preview ('Shedding for the Wedding' rather says it all!).
I mean, it's not like they're having a great year, with their season-to-dates on par with where they were at this time last year (a record low year):
The CW This Year (2010-11, end of Week 11): 1.2 A18-49 (1,550,000), 2,550,000 P2+
The CW Last Year (2009-10, end of Week 11): 1.2 A18-49 (1,550,000), 2,450,000 P2+
This is what happens when you go into a season with a mid-season cupboard that is bare...you are more or less stuck with your fall dance card.
Once this weeks 'Vampire Diaries' marathon concludes, I shudder to think of how low The CW's ratings will fall until originals return in late January. While Thursdays and Fridays repeat at an acceptable level, those encores in the Monday to Wednesday line-up fall below the ION network, who have fewer than half the national affiliates of The CW.
If I were an media buyer looking to reach the W18-49 demographic with some spot buys, for the next five weeks or so, I better call my rep over at ABC Family or MTV to get some young females watching tv.
There will be no new Smallville/Supernatural episodes tonight (1/28). Repeats of this week's Nikita and Vampire Diaries episodes will air instead.
New episodes of Smallville and Supernatural resume on 2/4.

The CW should use the Wednesday at 9 pm timeslot from April 20th to May 11th to test out some of their 2011-12 pilots that they're still on the fence with and/or use the slot to try out some of their past high-buzz development season pilots that could be re-activated (i.e. 'Host', 'Body Politic', 'Nomads').
With the prime 'ANTM' lead-in, The CW could create some advance buzz on series it is about to pick-up, much in the same way as FOX did with 'Glee' and plans to do this spring with 'Terra Nova'.
Has anybody heard when the replacement for Miss Dawn Ostroff is to be announced? I keep hoping its an executive appointment from the Warner side of the partnership, who exhibit a much keener understanding of what it takes to appeal to the T12-17 and A18-34 demo targets than the CBS side.
mtlguy 02-23-2011, 12:43 PM Pavan you have the 13th and the 20th for the 2hrs Smallville finale. I think you want to put Supernatural on the 20th.

yankeesrj12 06-23-2011, 12:18 AM I saw the summer changes for The CW, and I think its pretty sad when they have to resort to repeats of a cancelled reality show from last summer (Plain Jane). This network is a complete joke!
