CBS ANNOUNCES 2010-2011 PRIMETIME SCHEDULE

America's Most Watched Network Adds Five New Series to Its Top-Rated Lineup

New Dramas Include a New HAWAII FIVE-0, Comedic Drama THE DEFENDERS and a Family of NYPD's Finest BLUE BLOODS

Comedies Include a Series Based on a Twitter Feed and a New Show From Chuck Lorre About a Couple Who Find Love at an Overeaters Anonymous Meeting

18 Current Series Return

CBS Unveils Four Key Time Period Moves to Grow Nights and Spread Strength Across the Schedule

THE BIG BANG THEORY Launches New One-Hour Comedy Block Thursday at 8:00 PM

SURVIVOR to Open Wednesdays at 8:00 PM

CSI: NY Moves to Friday at 9:00 PM and CSI: MIAMI to Sunday at 10:00 PM to Power Two Key Time Periods

CBS announced today its new 2010-2011 primetime schedule and the addition of five new series, including three dramas and two comedies, and key scheduling moves to enhance America's most watched lineup.

The new series includes an updated take on the classic series HAWAII FIVE-0; comedic drama THE DEFENDERS starring Jim Belushi and Jerry O'Connell as colorful Las Vegas defense attorneys; drama BLUE BLOODS about a family of NYPD cops starring Tom Selleck and Donnie Wahlberg; a Twitter-inspired comedy, $#*! MY DAD SAYS, starring William Shatner as a father who spouts politically incorrect observations on daily life; and the romantic comedy MIKE & MOLLY, starring Billy Gardell and Melissa McCarthy as a cop and teacher who find love at an Overeaters Anonymous meeting.

"We believe television's #1 network just got stronger," said Nina Tassler, President, CBS Entertainment. "New series will be launched behind proven hits and key scheduling moves will help grow nights. Two of the dramas, ‘Hawaii Five-0' and ‘The Defenders,' continue our successful evolution in the drama form - character driven with great humor. The third new drama, ‘Blue Bloods,' introduces a police drama with a unique family spin. Our two new comedies will definitely make some noise. ‘$#*! My Dad Says' is based on a distinctly loud and funny Twitter feed - led by a larger-than-life star in William Shatner. ‘Mike & Molly' is a comedy on the romantic side, featuring the trademark humor of TV's reigning king of comedy, Chuck Lorre. And, the best news is that these new series join a schedule deep with hits and leadership in every program genre."

The freshman series will be joined by 18 returning shows including the season's #1 drama/scripted program - NCIS; #1 comedy - TWO AND A HALF MEN; #1 new series - UNDERCOVER BOSS, the #1 news magazine - 60 MINUTES, the #1 new drama - NCIS: LOS ANGELES, plus the #1 scripted series in key demos (18-49 and 25-54) - THE BIG BANG THEORY, along with two franchise reality series - SURVIVOR and the seven-time Emmy Award winner THE AMAZING RACE.

Also returning are: HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, RULES OF ENGAGEMENT, THE GOOD WIFE, CRIMINAL MINDS, CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION, THE MENTALIST, MEDIUM, CSI: NY, 48 HOURS MYSTERY and CSI: MIAMI.

A spin off of the hit drama CRIMINAL MINDS, starring Forest Whitaker, has been ordered for midseason.

The new 2010-2011 schedule:

On Monday, CBS adds a new Chuck Lorre comedy to television's top-rated comedy block and a big new drama to cap the night. From 8:00-9:00 PM, the established duo of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER and RULES OF ENGAGEMENT returns. Television's top comedy TWO AND A HALF MEN remains at 9:00 PM, serving as a lead-in for the new comedy MIKE & MOLLY, starring Billy Gardell and Melissa McCarthy at 9:30 PM. HAWAII FIVE-0 rides the wave into 10:00 PM.

On Tuesday, CBS's top-rated night remains intact with the #1 rated scripted series, NCIS, at 8:00 PM followed by the #1 new drama, NCIS: LOS ANGELES, at 9:00 PM and the #2 new drama, THE GOOD WIFE, at 10:00 PM.

On Wednesday, CBS makes two strategic time period changes to bookend the night. SURVIVOR provides a potent lead-off hitter at 8:00 PM. The sixth-year hit CRIMINAL MINDS remains at 9:00 PM, providing a strong lead-in to the new drama THE DEFENDERS, starring Jim Belushi and Jerry O'Connell, at 10:00 PM.

On Thursday, CBS opens a new one-hour comedy block on TV's biggest night. THE BIG BANG THEORY, the fastest growing series on television, kicks off the line-up at 8:00 PM, serving as a powerful lead-in for the irreverent new comedy $#*! MY DAD SAYS. The rest of the night remains unchanged with the popular drama block CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION and THE MENTALIST from 9:00-11:00 PM.

On Friday, CBS adds a New York/New York tandem from 9:00-11:00 PM. Veteran drama MEDIUM leads off the night at 8:00 PM. Proven hit CSI: NY moves from Wednesday to serve as the tent pole at 9:00 PM, flowing seamlessly into the NYPD police drama BLUE BLOODS at 10:00 PM.

Saturdays will feature CBS's CRIMETIME programming from 8:00-10:00 PM, followed by the popular true crime series 48 HOURS MYSTERY at 10:00 PM.

On Sunday, a winning crime drama moves to 10:00 PM to anchor one of TV's biggest nights. The perennial #1 news magazine, 60 MINUTES, kicks off its 43rd season at 7:00 PM. The seven-time Emmy Award-winning series THE AMAZING RACE returns at 8:00 PM followed by the first full season of UNDERCOVER BOSS, TV's #1 new show at 9:00 PM, keeping intact a powerful reality block. CSI: MIAMI provides the night's strongest 10:00 PM anchors in years.

The New Comedies are:

$#*! MY DAD SAYS, based on the popular Twitter feed by Justin Halpern, stars Emmy Award winner William Shatner as Ed Goodson, a forthright and opinionated dad who relishes expressing his unsolicited and often wildly politically incorrect observations to anyone within earshot. Nobody is immune from Ed's rants, including his sons, Henry, a struggling writer-turned-unpaid blogger; and Vince (Will Sasso), the meek half of his husband/wife real estate duo with domineering Kathleen (Nicole Sullivan). When Henry finds he can no longer afford to pay rent to his pretty roommate -- and secret admirer -- Sam (Stephanie Lemelin), Ed reveals a soft spot and invites Henry to move in with him. Henry agrees, knowing that the verbal assault will not abate and now there will be no escape. Describing their father/son relationship is tricky - but Ed will easily come up with a few choice words. Emmy Award winners David Kohan and Max Mutchnick are executive producers for Warner Bros. Television. Emmy Award winner James Burrows directed.

MIKE & MOLLY is a comedy from Chuck Lorre ("Two and a Half Men," and "The Big Bang Theory") about a working class Chicago couple who find love at an Overeaters Anonymous meeting. Officer Mike Biggs (Billy Gardell) is a good-hearted cop who sincerely wants to lose weight. Mike's partner, Officer Carl McMillan (Reno Wilson), is a thin, fast-talking wise-guy, who despite his teasing encourages Mike on his road to slimness and romance. While speaking at an O.A. meeting, Mike meets Molly Flynn (Melissa McCarthy), an instantly likeable fourth-grade teacher with a healthy sense of humor about her curves. For Molly, focusing on smart choices isn't easy because she lives with her sexy older sister, Victoria (Katy Mixon), and their mother, Joyce (Swoosie Kurtz), both of whom flaunt their healthy appetites and slender figures. Mike also faces temptation at the diner he and Carl frequent, where they've become friends with the Senegalese waiter, Samuel (Nyambi Nyambi), who finds trying to eat less a foreign concept. For Mike and Molly, thanks to their mutual love of pie and the desire to resist it, finding each other may have been worth the "weight." Chuck Lorre and Mark Roberts are executive producers for Chuck Lorre Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.

The New Dramas are:

HAWAII FIVE-0 is a contemporary take on the classic series about a new elite federalized task force whose mission is to wipe out the crime that washes up on the Islands' sun-drenched beaches. Detective Steve McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin), a decorated Naval officer turned cop, returns to Oahu to investigate his father's murder and stays after Hawaii's governor persuades him to head up the new team: his rules, her backing, no red tape and full blanket immunity to hunt down the biggest "game" in town. Joining McGarrett is Detective Danny "Danno" Williams (Scott Caan), a newly relocated ex-New Jersey cop who prefers skyscrapers to the coastline but is committed to keeping the Islands safe for his 8-year-old daughter; and Chin Ho Kelly (Daniel Dae Kim), an ex-Honolulu Police Detective wrongly accused of corruption and relegated to a federal security patrol, who is also a former protégé of McGarrett's father. Chin's cousin, Kono (Grace Park), is a beautiful and fearless native, fresh out of the academy and eager to establish herself among the department's elite. McGarrett vows to bring closure to his father's case while the state's brash new FIVE-0 unit, who may spar and jest among themselves, is determined to eliminate the seedy elements from the 50th state. Peter Lenkov, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are executive producers for CBS Television Studios.

THE DEFENDERS stars Jim Belushi and Jerry O'Connell in a comedic drama about two colorful Las Vegas defense attorneys who go all-in when it comes to representing their clients. Nick and Pete are the local go-to guys with an eclectic client list who are still looking to hit their own jackpot. Leading the law firm of Morelli & Kaczmarek are Nick Morelli (Belushi), an earnest, hard-charging attorney who represents his clients to the best of his ability, no matter how big or small the case, and his partner, Pete Kaczmarek (O'Connell), whose passion for the law is matched only by his love of fast cars, beautiful women and expensive clothes. Joining them in their growing law practice is new associate Lisa Tyler (Jurnee Smollett), an enthusiastic young attorney looking to put her exotic dancing days behind her; and their young assistant, Sophie (Tanya Fischer), a spunky and sweet ingénue who is eager to please her bosses. As Lady Luck shines on their legal careers, the partners have their hands full when it comes to their personal lives. While Pete is busy cruising the Vegas Strip for his latest romantic conquest, Nick is focused on repairing his fractured marriage to his estranged wife, Jessica (Gillian Vigman), while remaining present in the life of their young son. No matter the offense, Nick and Pete aim to prove that when the stakes are high they're willing to bet the house on the clients they defend in Sin City. Carol Mendelsohn, Niels Mueller and Kevin Kennedy, Joe and Harry Gantz, and Davis Guggenheim are the executive producers for CBS Television Studios.

BLUE BLOODS is a drama about a multi-generational family of cops dedicated to New York City law enforcement. Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) is the New York Chief of Police and patriarch of the Reagan brood, which he heads as diplomatically as he does the force, even when dealing with the politics that plagued his unapologetically bold father, Henry (Len Cariou), during his stint as Chief. A source of pride and concern for Frank is his eldest son Danny (Donnie Wahlberg), a seasoned detective, family man and Iraqi War vet who on occasion uses dubious tactics to solve cases. The sole Reagan woman in the family, Erin (Bridget Moynahan), is a N.Y. Assistant D.A. and newly single parent, who also serves as the legal compass for her siblings and father. Jamie (Will Estes) is the youngest Reagan, fresh out of Harvard Law and the family's "golden boy." However, unable to deny the family tradition, Jamie decided to give up a lucrative future in law and is now a newly minted cop, a career change seemingly supported by his beautiful girlfriend, Sydney Davenport (Dylan Moore), a first year lawyer. Jamie's life takes an abrupt turn, however, when he's asked to become part of a clandestine police investigation even his father knows nothing about, and one that could impact the family's legacy. Emmy Award winners Mitchell Burgess, Robin Green and Leonard Goldberg are executive producers for CBS Television Studios.

The Midseason Series:

CRIMINAL MINDS SPINOFF stars Academy Award-winner Forest Whitaker in a drama about an elite team of agents within the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit who use unconventional methods of investigation and aggressive tactics to capture the nation's most nefarious criminals. Unit chief Special Agent Sam Cooper (Whitaker) is a mentally and physically fierce natural leader who is not afraid to put his career on the line in order to stand by his convictions. Cooper strives to avoid political bureaucracy and has handpicked an eclectic group of profilers to work outside the confines of Quantico: Former British Special Forces soldier Mick Rawson (Matt Ryan), confident and handsome, works as a highly-skilled marksman with an undiluted eye for rooting out evil; John "Prophet" Sims (Michael Kelly), a former convict with a street-smart edge and a calm, Zen-like presence, who is determined to make amends for past sins; and Gina LaSalle (Beau Garrett), an attractive, tough agent armed with a cunning sense of perception. This exceptional group of FBI operatives is strong in their beliefs and steadfast in their mission to bring the country's most dangerous criminals to justice. Chris Mundy, Edward Allen Bernero, Mark Gordon and Deborah Spera are executive producers for ABC Studios in association with CBS Television Studios.

My thoughts:

Precursor: I LOVE this schedule, by far my favorite of the big four. CBS was aggressive and won't settle for dying shows in the same timeslots *cough*ABC*cough*. Excellent moves

MONDAY
8:00-8:30 PM HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER
8:30-9:00 PM RULES OF ENGAGEMENT
9:00-9:30 PM TWO AND A HALF MEN
9:30-10:00 PM MIKE & MOLLY (N)
10:00-11:00 PM HAWAII FIVE-0 (N)
--- Great moves. "Rules of Engagement" finally gets the treatment it deserves. I thought either "Men" or "Big Bang" should move to give CBS more strength somewhere else so this is a good move. "Mike & Molly" looks ok but it will probably do well, "Hawaii Five-O" has the potential to break the streak of remakes not doing well and could perk up the 10pm slot

TUESDAY
8:00-9:00 PM NCIS
9:00-10:00 PM NCIS: LOS ANGELES
10:00-11:00 PM THE GOOD WIFE
--- I predicted that this would not change yet and I think it's a good move. In the past, CBS cancelled a 10pm Tues show that was doing well enough (Judging Amy) and it took years to find a good replacement. Keeping "NCIS: LA" and "The Good Wife" here one more year will allow them more strength to stand on their own down the road, I believe

WEDNESDAY
8:00-9:00 PM SURVIVOR (NT)
9:00-10:00 PM CRIMINAL MINDS
10:00-11:00 PM THE DEFENDERS (N)
--- LOVE this. The comedy block needed to go. I always thought "Survivor" would do well here but didn't think it would actually move. I'm really glad CBS did this. "The Defenders" sounds pretty good and it will have a good chance against weak new entries from ABC and NBC in this timeslot

THURSDAY
8:00-8:30 PM THE BIG BANG THEORY (NT)
8:30-9:00 PM $#*! MY DAD SAYS (N)
9:00-10:00 PM CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION
10:00-11:00 PM THE MENTALIST
--- LOVE THIS. I said many times on another board that CBS SHOULD do comedies on Thursdays - attack NBC on Thursdays rather than ABC on Wednesdays but I didn't think it would happen. I'm very glad it did. "The Big Bang Theory" may not do quite as well but it can certainly hold its own. And "$#*! My Dad Says" sounds better than "Mike & Molly." I'm OK with them leaving CSI and The Mentalist as is and unlike many others, I'm not surprised they did

FRIDAY
8:00-9:00 PM MEDIUM (NT)
9:00-10:00 PM CSI: NY (NT)
10:00-11:00 PM BLUE BLOODS (N)
--- More good moves. Sending "CSI: NY" to Fridays will help that night as it was dying on Weds night but its still strong enough for Fri. "Blue Bloods" will be a demo disaster but it might do ok with viewers

SATURDAY
8:00-9:00 PM CRIMETIME SATURDAY
9:00-10:00 PM CRIMETIME SATURDAY
10:00-11:00 PM 48 HOURS MYSTERY
--- I thought CBS could branch out to Saturdays, but not this year I guess

SUNDAY
7:00-8:00 PM 60 MINUTES
8:00-9:00 PM THE AMAZING RACE
9:00-10:00 PM UNDERCOVER BOSS
10:00-11:00 PM CSI: MIAMI (NT)
--- More good moves. Same deal for CSI: Miami on Sundays as CSI: NY on Fridays - less pressure for an aging show but it will help its new night.

To Sum Up - good moves all around, CBS' schedule looks even stronger to me next year. They got rid of a lot of dead weight and moved things around to strengthen every night, I believe. Bravo!

Best Chance for Success: Mike & Molly, Hawaii Five-O
Most Likely to Fail: I think they'll all be a success, but "Blue Bloods" probably has the toughest road
Most Appealing New Drama: Hawaii Five-O
Most Appealing New Comedy: $#*! My Dad Says

I am shocked at this schedule but I love it. It is by far the best schedule of the upfronts. I love Survivor on Wednesday and BBT on Thursday, directly attacking the other networks.

MONDAY

Finally!!! So happy to see Rules Of Engagements on the fall schedule. it took forevar but it is on here. But I think **** My Dad Says Sould Have Gone Here. Like Hawaii 5-O is on instead on CSI:Miami.

TUESDAY

No Surprise. But evenutally CBS Will break up the two NCIS's as they do with CSI's.

WEDNESDAY

Rather Have Comedy On This Day. But Hey, Maybe Survivior Would Work Better Than THe Comedies. And Defenders looks good up with Criminal Minds. I think defenders would wook good their, and i will defently watch it.

THURSDAY

Know this is a good move. But Big Bang their to strenghen another comedy block. Great idea, i rely think that would beat comunitty. But i don't know about **** my dad says, i might have to choose 30 rock over that. But Everything Else ON THat Night is good. But I Would have prefrered another comedy block from them on Either Tuesdays At 8 and 8:30, or Sunday at 9 and 9:30, My Prefrence.

FRIDAY

I can't bleve srpted shows on fridayy nights for all networks!!!! I am rely mad about this... FYI, all of these shows on friday nights, give them all 4-9 Episodes and then their dead!!!!!

SATURDAY

No Surprise

SUNDAY

LOVE UNDERCOVER BOSS HERE, AND CSI: MIAMII!!!!! Love it alot.

This is deffently the best structured schedule on all of the networks. I think CBS Will Have Alot Of Sucuess with their scdule!!!!

Survivor moving to Wednesday is a real shocker. On CBS I'll be watching Survivor and Amazing Race. I'll also try the new sitcom Bleep My Dad Says.

This is how a network should program it's schedule. You have to take risks and protect your new shows with proven hits as lead-ins so you can get the next generation of hit shows. I would have rather had Two and a Half Men move to Thursday but I think BBT will do fine there. Cbs' new shows look very interesting. I'll probably give a few of them a look.

Will definitely be checking out $!*# My Dad Says, but that is all. My TV schedule is already big enough, as nothing I watch this past season has been cancelled (besides Scrubs and Better off Ted). Mike and Molly will be the first Chuck Lorre show I'm not too interested in watching, and definitely dont have the time for it. On the up side, I'm super glad that Rules of Engagement FINALLY has been given a full season. Maybe the writers will give us a storyline now that can take us through a few episodes rather than all episodes mainly being on their own.

Prediction: Big Bang Theory on Thursdays will succeed, especially in the demo. If I had to guess, the season will start with an average of 8-9 million viewers, and probably grow if this schedule remains intact. "Dad Says" will probably be a little lower in the ratings, but with a strong lead-in, they should sure be hopeful.

Downside: COMMUNITY will get crushed. My two favorite sitcoms face-to-face in a battle that clearly already has a winner!

I think now that survivor moved to Wednesdays to 7 and the middle starts at 7 I think it will lose the audience. Kind of like cougar town against idol. What do u guys think? I hope they don't cancel the middle it's an awesome show.

CBS made a big mistake moving BBT to Thursdays 8pm. This is their strongest demo performer. Not one CBS show does better than BBT in the demo. And what do they do? They move it to the lowest rated HUT timeslot of the night. If anything, CBS should have moved Men to Thursdays at 8pm and BBT to Mondays 9pm. It's time Men moves. For it's final 2 seasons (I'm guessing 8 and 9 will be the last), it should be utilized elsewhere, allowing BBT to fully become the #1 comedy. They shouldn't have Charlie Sheen as the face of their comedies forever.

I think CBS stinks. They got rid of Gary Unmarried, which was one of the few watchable sitcoms nowadays, and they also got rid of NUMB3RS, which is one of the few excellent dramas nowadays. Wonder what the ratings were for them? I know NUMB3RS always got good ratings. Yeesh! Now I have no reason to watch CBS anymore. Good thing I had already stopped watching Accidentally On Purpose and abandoned Old Christine long ago. I watched Two and a half men really early on, but got sick of it in its second season. Somehow it manages to stay on, don't know how. And I'm not interested in any of their new shows. Oh well, back to whatever I can find on my digital cable! :)

I was just watching the opening theme song and preview videos for Hawaii Five-O and I have to say it looks very well done and may be one of the remakes to actually work out. I'll definitely try to check it out.

Quite pleasantly surprised to see CBS's new fall promo bumper featured within tonights broadcast of 'The Tony Awards' on CBS. They fashioned a high-energy clip with The Romantics "What I Like About You" as the catchy theme music.

Funny though, when I heard the music, my first thoughts were about The WB's sitcom 'What I Like About You', which used the same music in its opening credits.

I'm sure its not in the offing, but with all the upcoming mega-investments in CBS branding around this tune, at some point someone has to suggest (I'll be first) a revival of the sitcom that starred Miss Jennie Garth and Miss Amanda Bynes...new episodes a few years later could serve well as a summer companion next year to 'How I Met Your Mother' encores.

I sort of like this idea, actually. If we could go and change the past I would have debuted WILAY when Big Bang Theory came out. Those shows complement each other very well and would have made one another better. They both have young casts and involve somewhat similar, wacky, storylines.

The Parents Television Council is going to target one of CBS's new shows: Beep My Dad Says. They were protesting the title because it alluded to an obscenity. The PTC is threatening CBS with broadcast license challenges for any affiliate airing the show or its promos before 10 pm. Responding to the controversy, CBS stated, "[The show] will in no way be indecent and will adhere to all CBS standards. Parents who chose to do so will find the show can be easily blocked using their VChip." Show star Shatner has commented on the show's title, saying "We say spit; why can't we say ****?" In addition, Bill Gorman from TVbytheNumbers wrote that the PTC protest was just giving the show more publicity, which he expects will boost ratings.

i don't think the ratings of that show will be boosted for any reason. This is the kind of series that should job in the ratings and be cancelled after only half a season, all because of the title containing one of the "Seven Dirty Words".

Why on earth would CBS be scared of NBC's Community season premiere? Betty White or not, it will barely get a 2.0 in 18-49. And it is premiere week. I am never a fan of launching stuff early since it doesn't count.

Launching early does, however, have the benefit of driving up the sampling of the premiere.

FOX used to go early ('Prison Break' debuting in August) in an effort to get viewers on board with their shows before the other nets preemed their new season. If I were FOX, I would be tempted to give their new comedies a one-off premiere before the season starts after 'The Simpsons' and 'Family Guy' on Sunday nights, just to ensure they get an adequate first sampling.

Sounds good, but I'm guessing it will do only a 1.0 demo.

Still think 18 minutes of new GREYS footage would have been great counterprogramming. 8- MF rerun - 8:30-11p GREYS. They'd have 10-11p not vs TBBT which will certainly get 2's. I know it's not gonna happen, just what I would do. ABC wanted the new footage for LOST DVD too, yet they leaked that. I watched it, it's not gonna make me want the DVD less.

"Medium" Order Cut to 13

http://www.deadline.com/2010/10/medium-order-cut-to-13-is-this-the-end/

Medium cheated death once in 2009 when CBS rescued it after its cancellation by NBC. But the ghost crime drama might now be coming to an end after a respectable 7-season run on two networks. CBS today cut the order to the series starring Patricia Arquette to 13 episodes. While it has not been cancelled as CBS is keeping its options open, its chances for renewal are considered slim. In a similar fashion, CBS last year cut the order to Friday drama Numbers before canceling it in May. The CBS TV Studios-produced Medium, which has made a lot of money for CBS through its syndication deal with Lifetime, has been the lowest-rated series on CBS this fall following its move from 9 PM to 8 PM on Friday (though it inched up in the ratings last week). With CBS recently picking up all 5 of its freshman series, it had to open up some shelf space for the 3 more series it has ordered for midseason, dramas Chaos and Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior and comedy Mad Love. After fulfilling Medium's 13-episode order, creator and showrunner Glenn Gordon Caron, who is very well liked within CBS, will focus on development for CBS TV Studios where he is under an overall deal.

I'm not too surprised...future doesn't look good for the series. :(

Unfortunately, no it does not. A Saturday run for episodes 14-22 would've been nice and couldn've proven successful, paired with 48 Hours, but looks like CBS opted to take the easy road out. Hopefully they'll at least give it a proper send off. There's no real continuing storyline this season, so it'll be interesting to see how the writers wrap things up. I wish CBS would just say, though, that this is indeed the final season. Leaving fans hanging after the season ends is cruel and unnecessary.

PRESS RELEASE:

NEW CBS REALITY SERIES "LIVE TO DANCE" WITH PAULA ABDUL TO PREMIERE TUESDAY, JAN. 4

ON THE CBS TELEVISION NETWORK

Series Premieres with a Special Two Hour Episode on Tuesday, Jan. 4,

Before Moving to Its Regular Time Period on Wednesdays (8:00-9:00 PM) Starting Jan. 5

Series Will Be Broadcast Live on Wednesdays Starting Jan. 12

The new CBS reality-competition series LIVE TO DANCE, which will feature one of the most inclusive talent searches ever on television, will debut with a special two hour episode, Tuesday, Jan. 4 (8:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Paula Abdul will serve as executive producer, mentor and lead expert of the series. LIVE TO DANCE will move to its regular time period on Wednesdays (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on Jan. 5, and then be broadcast LIVE starting Wednesday, Jan. 12.

The premiere episode of LIVE TO DANCE will follow dancers from across the country auditioning for Abdul and the series' experts in specially constructed Dance Domes that were built in both New York and Los Angeles to host the auditions. At the end of the premiere episode, a group of dancers from all styles, backgrounds and ages will be selected for the LIVE TO DANCE cast.

When the show moves to its regular time period on Wednesday, Jan. 5, an additional group of dancers from the Dance Dome auditions, who the experts feel deserve a second look, will have one final opportunity to compete in a "dance-off," to earn a coveted spot in the LIVE TO DANCE cast. Those contestants who make it through the "dance-off" will travel to Los Angeles, rounding out the final cast of 18 dance acts.

Starting Wednesday, Jan. 12, the first six dance acts will compete against each other LIVE on CBS with two acts advancing. After a total of three rounds, the six dance acts that have advanced will compete against one another in the grand finale, where they will battle for the right to be crowned LIVE TO DANCE champion and awarded a $500,000 prize.

Paula Abdul will be joined on the panel of experts by Travis Payne and Kimberly Wyatt, both of whom bring an extensive dance and choreography resume to the series. Andrew Günsberg is host of the series.

LIVE TO DANCE is based on a format created by Princess Productions and Shine TV and is produced by Reveille. Elisabeth Murdoch, Howard T. Owens, Paula Abdul, James Sunderland, Anthony Dominici and Robin Ashbrook are executive producers.

- CBS Thursday all-new only on 11/11, 11/18 and 12/9

How many episodes will Medium be airing before the end of the year? From my count, it's either 9 or 10, but I'm not sure. I'm guessing CBS will take it into January and end it at the end of the month.

Agreed. I mean, as of late, it isn't doing all that badly (it was only .3 behind Blue Bloods last week), and CBS is really giving it the shaft by taking it all the way down to 13 rather than 16 or 18. So, hopefully it does get a proper finale put together. After 7 seasons, I'd be extremely devestated if they didn't

Cyrax, I think CBS Monday might be new one more time after 11/22. Not sure yet.

TVGuide talks about a December 13th episode of HIMYM, any info if the rest of that Monday lineup is going to be all-new as well?

Pavan
11-18-2010, 06:07 PM
I believe CBS Monday is repeats on Nov. 29 and Dec. 6 but all-new on Dec. 13 for their 11th episodes of the season. Though I think Rules of Engagement is all-new on Dec. 6, so it might be a repeat on Dec. 13, not sure yet. CBS is pretty slow compared to other networks in ep scheduling.

CBS Thursday is repeats on Dec. 2 but all-new on Dec. 9 for their 10th episodes of the season (though Bleep might be a repeat). I have Bleep My Dad Says listed as new on Thursday, Dec. 16 with episode "Family Dinner for Schmucks."

Cyrax
11-19-2010, 04:24 AM
Thanks! Any particular reason why Rules & Bleep are not aired alongside the rest of the all-new lineup? They prefer to have one new episode instead of a full repeat night?

Pavan
11-19-2010, 11:33 AM
Probably a test to see how they do on their own. If Bleep ISN'T a repeat on Dec. 9, then I think they are just trying to speed up the episodes so they can bring in Mad Love.

Apparently CBS Monday is all new on 12/13 as well, airing the 12th episodes.

CBS Thursday is all new on 12/9 and 12/16, these shows air 11 episodes in 2010. So if the 18 episode order of Bleep is correct, it can exit in March.

Looks like Friday 12/10 is repeats too, wonder if they air 11th eps on 12/17? Interesting they don't show Medium when it's repeats (tonight it's double Blue Bloods, in 2 weeks it's The Mentalist).

I hope they will announce the midseason schedule next week, specifically the replacement for Medium. I wonder if CSI: NY and BB get bumped up an hour so the 10 pm show can be The Defenders or a new one (because I don't see them scheduling TD or a new show to lead the night).

I suppose it should happen this week? 2 years ago they announced midseason plans early December but the previous midseason reveal happened only in January due to the Superbowl-Undercover Boss secrecy.

I agree TD makes the most sense to move to Friday, then again The Good Wife is quite weak too, but Criminal Minds spin off has to air after the original!

I don't see the big deal with Wednesdays. CBS needs something to fill in for Survivor while its gone, and this is a good fit. I don't expect the show to do well, but it's better than encores between the two Survivor seasons.

Not sure, but I doubt they launch anything more new series until March.

As far as current shows, CBS returns in the new year with all-new episodes on Monday, Jan. 3 with its comedies and Five-0. Tuesday and Wednesday dramas return Jan. 11 and 12 due to Live to Dance and People's Choice Awards on Jan. 4 and 5. CBS Thursday comedies and dramas are all-new on Jan. 6, as is CBS Friday dramas on Jan. 7. CSI: Miami returns Sunday, Jan. 9. Undercover Boss hasn't booked its next episode yet (could return Jan. 2 or 9) and 60 Minutes is usually always new.

I would think so too. Plus it has 13 episodes, I believe. I wouldn't be surprised to see it launch on Jan 19 or 26 and "The Defenders" get a couple weeks off until its ready to launch somewhere else (Fridays at 8?)

The spin-off does have 13 episodes, but they can still launch in March and air 13 episodes. If it starts March 2, it can run all the way to May 25 (last day of the season) with all episodes aired. The Defenders is likely staying in its timeslot until 18 episodes. If it has more than 18, then it could be used on Fridays, but nothing is launching on Fridays after Medium ends Jan. 21. Earliest something will air is Feb. 11, if anything. The Criminal Minds spin-off could launch in February, but not January. Jan. 19 is one month away and there has been NO talk or promos on it. And they are returning The Defenders on Jan. 12, so why only air it one week and then pull it? They have Survivor and Amazing Race returning in February, so they really don't need it to launch in February.

I seriously doubt they move BBT. They have had success with the show there and may be building a Thursday night comedy block.

Also why not put Mad Love on Thurs? I don't think Idol will be as strong and other networks aren't going to roll over and play dead against it.

Without moving BBT, 9:30 is really the only place for Mad Love. They should go for it.

CBS Gives 'Blue Bloods' Wednesday 10 PM Trial Run, Shifts 'The Defenders' to Fridays

EXCLUSIVE: CBS is about to find out how big a hit it has on its hands with Blue Bloods. I'm hearing the freshman Tom Selleck drama — which has been averaging a healthy 12.3 million viewers on Fridays at 10 PM — will get a four-week trial run on Wednesdays at 10 PM beginning Jan. 19. Fellow freshman series The Defenders, which is currently occupying the Wednesday 10 PM slot, will shift to a new regular time slot, Fridays at 8 PM, starting Feb. 4. There, the legal dramedy will succeed departing paranormal crime drama Medium. Beginning Feb. 16, spinoff Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior takes over on Wednesdays at 10 PM where it will follow Criminal Minds. This is the same strategy CBS successfully used for the launch of spinoff NCIS: LA, which also followed the mothership NCIS series on Tuesdays. Blue Bloods, meanwhile, reclaims its Friday 10 PM post on Feb. 11. CBS, which declined to comment for this story, is expected to announce its midseason plans later today.

Wow...kind of surprising.

CBS ANNOUNCES MID-SEASON ADDITIONS AND TIME PERIOD MOVES

"Blue Bloods" to Begin Four-Week Run in Wednesday 10:00 PM Time Period Starting Jan. 19

New Drama, "Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior," Premieres Wednesday, Feb. 16 At 10:00 PM

New Drama, "Chaos," Premieres Friday, April 1 at 8:00 PM

CBS today announced mid-season series premiere dates and some time period moves for America's top-rated Network.

"We're in the fortunate position of having a schedule with many successful shows and very few holes," said Kelly Kahl, Senior Executive Vice President Primetime for CBS. "This allows us to be very targeted with our mid-season series. These are moves that maintain the core stability of a successful schedule, while giving us multiple looks for the future at a few time periods."

BLUE BLOODS, the season's #2 freshman series among viewers and Friday's top program in both viewers and adults 25-54, will move to Wednesdays (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) for four consecutive weeks beginning Jan. 19. BLUE BLOODS returns to its regular Friday time period (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on Feb. 11.

CRIMINAL MINDS: SUSPECT BEHAVIOR, a spin-off of CBS's top 10 hit, CRIMINAL MINDS, premieres Wednesday, Feb. 16 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT).

THE DEFENDERS, currently airing Wednesdays (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) and ranking as the third-highest-rated new drama, relocates to Fridays (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) effective Feb. 4.

MAD LOVE, a comedy about a quartet of New Yorkers, two of whom are falling in love while the other two despise each other, premieres Monday, Feb. 21 (8:30-9:00 PM, ET/PT).

RULES OF ENGAGEMENT will move from Monday (8:30-9:00 PM, ET/PT) to Thursdays (8:30-9:00 PM, ET/PT) beginning Feb. 24, reuniting with another former Monday comedy, THE BIG BANG THEORY, to form a new Thursday comedy block. This season, RULES OF ENGAGEMENT has improved its time period by +13% in both viewers and adults 18-49 and by +17% in adults 25-54. RULES OF ENGAGEMENT will succeed $#*! MY DAD SAYS, which will have completed its on-air order for the season.

CHAOS, a comedic drama about a group of rogue CIA spies in the Clandestine Administration and Oversight Services, premieres Friday, April 1 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT). CHAOS will succeed THE DEFENDERS, which will have completed its on-air order for the season.

CBS will close the first half of the 2010-2011 season as the #1 network in viewers (12.29m, up +3%), adults 25-54 (4.2/10, up +2%) and adults 18-49 (3.2/09, even with last year). Season-to-date, CBS has six of the season's top 10 programs, the top seven scripted programs and the top five new programs. CBS also has the two most played-back series - HAWAII FIVE-0 and THE MENTALIST - with both gaining nearly three million additional viewers each week after 7-day playback is factored in.

CBS's Mid-Season Lineup:

Fridays, Effective Jan. 7

WOW! Finally!
Not bad.

CBS did go with Mad Love on Mondays. HIMYM will be a good lead-in. Smart scheduling by putting the new show in the established night.

Wednesdays are OK. Will be interesting to see how Survivor: RI will do against Idol. Criminal Minds going in to the new spinoff is solid.

Only mystery is Fridays at 10 on 1/21, 1/28, 2/4. Repeats? Defenders goes to Fridays at 8pm as expected. Chaos looks alright.

Overall, again, not bad. I'll be able to catch most of my shows. Schedule looks pretty solid to me. Thumbs up CBS! :D Glad they didn't wait until after Christmas.

Chaos has no chance, it's gonna follow Medium alongside The Defenders and disappear by May. :p

I'm really surprised that CBS wants to give a painful death to Rules of Engagement, even if AI will be weaker than before, it's still gonna make Rules go lower than SMDS so there won't be any reason to bring back the more expensive Rules. CBS liked when Rules was a midseason replacement but now as a full season it doesn't work (at least creatively) and David Spade gets way too much for one episode to justify ratings like that.

Hope Blue Bloods can prove itself on Wednesdays! Not really excited about Mad Love but it might be an unexpected surprise.

WHy would so many people think Chaos is DOA when Blue Blood succeeded on Fridays. Yes it has a lot less cahnce, but if the show is good, it has a chance to work out as expectation are probably much lower there.

"Two and a Half Men" Goes on Production Hiatus

Statement from CBS Entertainment, Warner Bros.Television and Executive Producer Chuck Lorre

Due to Charlie Sheen's decision to enter a rehabilitation center, CBS, Warner Bros. Television and executive producer Chuck Lorre are placing "Two and a Half Men" on production hiatus. We are profoundly concerned for his health and well-being, and support his decision.

I was hoping for 2 Blue Bloods in one week but the 2/11 episode is a repeat, so first episode in old timeslot is 2/18. Even after being moved to Wednesday it's still the lowest non-Friday show in the 18-49 so a 2nd season is not a sure bet...

CBS Orders More 'Mike & Molly,' 'Rules' to Replace 'Two and a Half Men'

These extra shows will fill in a schedule with sudden holes caused by the absence of Charlie Sheen, who is seeking treatment.
CBS has ordered two additional episodes of Monday sitcoms Mike and Molly and Rules of Engagement to help cope with scheduling issues arising from the absence of Charlie Sheen from the hit show Two and a Half Men, according to sources.

These extra shows will fill in a schedule with sudden holes caused by the absence of Sheen, who reportedly is attempting a rehabilitation program at home with a trained expert in addiction. (Sheen's spokesperson Stan Rosenfield tells THR: "In compliance with the national health privacy laws (HIPPA), no further information relating to Charlie Sheen's health or his rehab experience will be released without his written permission. I can say that all of us who know Charlie care about him very much. We will support him in any we can in this journey, beginning by respecting his privacy.)

TMZ has reported that Sheen, who was admitted to a Los Angeles hospital last week complaining of abdominal pains, will be unable to work for three months. A CBS source says that the network has not been informed that Sheen will be out for the season, but his absence would leave CBS short of eight episodes of the planned 24-episode season (there has been no serious talk of shooting the series around his absence).

Related story: 'Two and a Half Men' shutdown could cost CBS, Warner Bros. millions

Warner Bros. Television, which makes Men and Mike (both from WBTV-based executive producer Chuck Lorre), would not comment on the additional episode order. TMZ claimed WBTV and CBS played a role in selecting the addiction specialist treating Sheen, but Warners would not comment on what role it played (if any) in locating the expert. Neither CBS nor Sony Pictures Television, which makes Rules, immediately responded to requests for comment.

CBS has said in a statement that a shutdown of Men "is not material" to the network. "Any ratings declines will be more than offset by the reduced programming costs for episodes lost this season," the network said.

Describing its schedule as "strong and deep with hit series," CBS said it is not reliant on one show. "In addition, Two and a Half Men has always performed well in repeats," the network said.

CBS absolutely made the right move here and good for them for having the guts to do it. The only downside is this screws over the rest of the crew, but it needed to be done. Charlie Sheen is completely out of control. I'm not a fan of the show, but I'd love to see them successfully replace him after how arrogant he's been. He says he'll "go make movies with big stars" but what big name talent will take a chance on him after this debacle?

Personally, I'd bring the show back next year for 13, and let them wrap things up... not for Charlie Sheen, but for the actors who have devoted 8+ years creating something that millions love and for the crew as well who have put up with Sheen's garbage long enough. The cast deserves it. The crew deserves it. THE FANS DESERVE IT.

Now I want CBS to air a 60th anniversary special on I Love Lucy from 8-10 on the 23rd. That would serve a few purposes: ILL is an iconic show that deserves to be recognized for such a milestone and it would hopefully kill the Bachelorette premiere (I so want that franchise to die), giving a lot stronger lead-in to Commercials than repeats.
