If you’re unfamiliar with these people http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_Traveller they are grifters and con men in the truest sense of the word. They live in little towns throughout the US and are very clannish and secretive. Very interesting sub-culture in the US. Some instances of them in popular culture are:

the woman who got in trouble for beating her daughter in the parking lot of a mall after failing to scam the store out of credit http://archive.southcoasttoday.com/daily/10-02/10-28-02/a13lo072.htm
It occurred to me that a number of UM segments deal with these folks, however they never come out and address their culture aside from suggesting that “they’re usually spread across the country” or they “live a nomadic lifestyle”.
Some segments I think feature Irish Travelers are:
The segments in which the elderly man has his house basically taken over by the contractors who rob him of everything (Danny Marino, Ricky Nelson)
The Virginia police officer who duped an entire network of con men into thinking he was getting them out of legal troubles and busted them at a hotel party which had undercover FBI agents posing as waiters and party guests.
He drunk driver who (John something) who killed that elderly couple, and whose family snuck him out of the hospital.
These people all have the same look to them, they all have multiple aliases, they live nomadic lifestyles, and they are all in some sort of contracting (painting, house repair) so they can scam people. Can anyone think of any others?
