Why is "That's My Mama" airing on WUPA-TV 69 UPN Atlanta in repeats if it only had like 17 episodes?

WOw... I wish I lived in your area! What a golden opportunity!

Basically, there are two different ways that this could have happened.

The first (and most common) is that it was tacked on as additional episodes of a show that it was spun-off from. For instance, in most markets, "The Ropers" is added to the
line-up of "Three's Company" as an added value for the affiliates. This can also be done with any other short-lived shows that are of a simmilar theme in order to boost the value. KVOS-TV12 in Bellingham, Washington used to be notorious for this type of
programming! You never knew exactly what you where goping to be seeing, but you knew it was either going to be "MASH" or "AFTER-MASH". They also did that a lot with Action shows as well... my favorite pairing was "Night Rider", filled in with episodes of "The Highwayman".

The other way it could have happened is much more rare. Viewers of that station may have started a letter-writing campaign asking for that show, and the station went out and bought the syndication for that show! If viewer demand is there, and the price is good, most likely you can bring just about any television show back to your TV! Look at "My Mother The Car", for gosh sakes!

So anyway, I hope that answers your question!

There were 39 episodes - not 17. It ran for a season and a half. They ran through them once and now are at #12 or #13..

It's cool to see Clifton Davis and Jester Hairston in a pre-Amen role! I for one am glad they are airing it because it probably has never been in syndication before.

WUPL and WUPA are the only stations airing the show at this moment.

It was also shown on Channel 66 out of Chicago when it was an Independant Channel back in 1989, now it's a Spanish channel.

The odds of this show ever airing on TV Land or Nick At Nite are not good. But Gidget is currently airing on TV LAND so you never know. :) :happyface

Well, since TV Land pride themselves on being the home of classic tv (or is that Nick? Anyway, same difference), they should hopefully at some point, aquire the rights to televise all 39 episodes. Afterall, they've aired: Tabitha, Gidget, & Angie (ALL great shows, as well), & FX (after years of it sitting on the shelf) picked up Nanny & The Professor. So the point being: if NATP, Gidget, & Tabitha can get snapped up after way too many years of sitting on a shelf, then That's My Mama, can surely merit (no pun intended) re-exposure on TV Land, or some network who can recognize the gem this program is, & that there are a great many of us who'd like to see it again. And being that it only has 39 episodes, it could always be shown on TV Land Kitschen :-).

Ive only had the privilege to catch this show once, back in the late 90's. I tried to catch another episode the following day but they never repeated it. My mom tells me that the show was quite good but it only ran for about two seasons in the 70's. I really wish there were some way to catch it, but none of the networks will run the episodes.

I may have to start a petition.
