View Full Version : 10 Years Ago Today, "Boy Meets World" Ended
Brian Damage 05-05-2010, 12:15 AM May 5th 2000 - The final episode of "Boy Meets World" aired on ABC
"Brave New World"
Two part episode:Cory wrestles with his fear of moving to New York for Topanga's internship, triggering, in flashbacks, a host of memories. When he finally opts to take Manhattan, it turns out that Shawn, Jack, Rachel, and Eric have all made big moving plans of their own (Angela moved to Europe in the last episode). But before anyone leaves town, the crew makes one last stop: Mr. Feeny's classroom. There, the teacher offers them one last bit of advice before they go out and meet the world: "Believe in yourselves. Dream. Try. Do good." Eric tells Mr. Feeny to admit that he loves them, but he refuses. They each share a tearful goodbye with their mentor, and leave. The series ends with Mr. Feeny saying to the empty classroom: "I love you all. Class dismissed."
DSfan 05-07-2010, 11:55 PM I still think the episode "The War" should have been the series finale, and believe it actually was intended to be so by the producer. That was a great 2-part episode that was very emotional.
Cliff Barnes 05-08-2010, 10:38 AM I remember watching the finale when it aired, even though I had not watched the show in years. It was and still is extremely touching and moving, definitely one of the best last episodes of a show. Feeny in the class with the guys is just pure genius. I don't know if there will ever be a reunion show, believe me I would love to see one or two or as many as they'd like, but if they never do at least the show had a great ending-an honor many other good shows that I like even better didn't get.
spunkygirl 05-09-2010, 02:21 PM Nah this was the perfect last episode, the war didn't have enough closure to it(nor did Seven the Hard Way).
I remember watching the final episode :(
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 05-24-2010, 11:41 PM It was a great way to end the show, imo. Lots of shows don't get a good send-off like that.
And ten years means it's time: I'd love to see a reunion show/movie/anything.
bh7812 06-20-2010, 09:17 PM I feel how they ended the show was excellent. The final scene of the series being in the exact same place the very first scene of the series was in-their old grade school classroom-was brilliant. It was a proper send off and I think they did it right,
Anthony33 09-13-2010, 09:34 PM Agreed, Boy Meets World had a great series finale. I remember for me that was officially the end of the TGIF lineup, although ABC probably hadn't been calling it TGIF for a while already. My TV fandom sort of fell apart aftet this too because after 2000, most new shows I really like tend to get cancelled early WITHOUT getting a proper ending (Titus, The Fugitive w/Tim Daly, Dark Angel, Reaper, Life, etc.)
I remember checking out BMW sites at the time. I don't know if any of those fan sites are still around anymore but rememer a woman that ran one of the sites did reviews for all the episodes. She raised a good point about the finale too. They should've showed the final curtain call on TV, as most sitcoms with a live audience tend to do. That's the only thing I would want done differently about it. Maybe on a DVD release of Season 7? That'd be a cool extra to have on a Season 7 set no?

I'm curious as to why? It didn't have closure, it didn't feel like the end and think of all the good stuff we'd have missed if that had been the end. I think "Brave New World" was perfect as the finale. It gave us closure
Yeah it was supposed to be the finale, but then ABC extended the season

I agree that "Brave New World" gave a bit more closure but I have to agree that I liked "The War" as the finale.
There was no other episode of the series where I felt more into the show and characters. It was so heartbreaking seeing that scene of them in the future not being friends anymore - especially how we weren't sure if it was a truthful sequence of the future or just a sort of "thought" scene.
So, in terms of feeling emotionally connected to the show "The War" was better but for closure purposes "Brave New World."

Anthony33 06-04-2011, 02:23 PM How many of you guys are enjoying the DVDs? What seasons are you up to? I have Season 5 on the way from Amazon. I can't wait to get Season 6 this summer.
boniface605 01-14-2012, 12:21 PM It's not often that you see a show "end well". Or, end the way that it should/intended.
angelachicken 05-07-2012, 12:43 PM I sure miss this kind of show now that my kids are watching TV, it seems there is nothing of this quality that even compares now a days.
cleverfun3000 05-07-2012, 02:00 PM i wish it never ended. one of my favorite shows
It Had To End Because at Some Point, a BOY becomes a MAN.
hawkeye123 05-26-2012, 09:34 PM I loved this show too.Another one of the great ones. That i wish never would of ended.I am happy that Corey and topanga got married though. It ended a lot better than some of my favs have.I got a question though who was better Corey Mathews or Kevin Arnold. Also Topanga or Whinnie?
brianjohnson1984 06-09-2012, 06:22 PM One of my favorites too...yeah, eventually they all grew up, but it was great while it lasted. I agree that the quality is unmatched, except on very few shows. They were funny, but yet often very touching in the same show.
